Nope, it's not just you. More often than not we seem to lose someone when we go in to a game. Once we're in we're generally okay, and if we stick with the lobby we generally don't have any problems. It's just getting in to begin with that causes the trouble.

Phew, thought it might have been my custom settings on Voice comms (have it set to Friends only, since can't stand the inane crap going on in the MW2 lobbies from randoms), that's been playing up with the broken lobbies.

As a game, I prefer it to Halo, but as an overall online experience though with the post-match statistics, lobbies etc. It isn't fit to lick the boots of Halo 3.

I thought it would be a joy to slaughter Christmas noobs but in fact what I've found is that, no matter how well you play, the noobs on your team play so badly that you quickly have all hell breaking loose on you from the air, forcing you to have to go to your anti-air class the whole time. Two minutes into a game yesterday I was on 12-0, yet we had harrier, pave low, AC-130 and predator missiles raining down on us simultaneously! I congratulated our team with some choice language as I saw one idiot shooting at the AC-130 with his AR.

I'm hearing that. Man. I started a game as I normally would, securing an area. This involves covering behind me with a claymore, then working my way forward, getting a kill, and scavenging a new claymore to corden off an area between the two. I'd neatly killed 4 people and just started got going when I noticed my team was getting absolutely slaughtered, running aimlessly into enemy fire. I see a predator in the sky and aim to get away from my team-mates, whereby two of them follow me gifting the guy a triple kill and pave low. I then spawn die three times and my solid play has been all but cancelled out.

People not spreading out when a predator is coming is my number one team-mate hate. When they're getting shot they're at least showing me where the enemy is.

I'm always in two minds about the predator. It's by far the killstreak I die most to, because there's nothing you can do to counter it unless you're fortunate enough to be able to get into cover quickly. Naturally its a mainstay on my list.

As my team will attest, every time there was a predator I would say "it's always me", which it seemed to be. I found it annoying as I thought it was just bad luck but I've since devised a few tricks that see me rarely the victim. It changes depending on the situation but I always make a decision and react the instant I hear the predator noise. If I can't get to safety I get up against anything available and keep still. You don't get hurt if the missile lands the other side of even a box you're hiding behind and they tend to chase those that are running, I find, perhaps because they figure they're the ones who are demonstrating they're not in a safe position. Anyway, it seems to be working.

So, so true.

I was playing Derail with a mate and he ran to the middle building at the start of the match. I stopped at one of the pick-ups near the door to cover him from anyone chasing in behind him, and this guy playing as a sniper actually lay down on the ground next to me, behind the car. He could see less from there than I could so I have no idea what benefit he saw to sitting next to me. On Favela we had our guys following like sheep, sitting next to us on roofs like giant neon signs, or worse still, blazing away at a target well past hittable, completely negating my stealthy approach.

The crazy running around seems to be getting worse, I'm sure new players see experienced ones doing it so think that's how they should play the game. People are getting 2-20 against terrible opponents because they just race about like loons. I've seen some awful ripper players of late (who've clearly been at it a while though). They've obviously gotten used to racing about, causing mayhem, and have no idea how to play when after the first time they kill you, you switch to your shotgun. They just keep coming back for more, presumably thinking it was a one-off. Finishing with a negative K/D in TDM whilst playing ripper should have been enough for them to realise that it's not a free pass, but they carried on doing it in the next game too

As my team will attest, every time there was a predator I would say "it's always me", which it seemed to be.

I've started making for cover the moment I see/hear the Predator coming. Mr Furious however seems to get almost every single one on his head despite his best efforts to avoid them. "Of course, it gets me" is a regular phrase during our sessions.

I've been feeling this pain as well. Ground War has been a nightmare over xmas thanks to the cannon fodder. The number of game's i've entered midway through to have an almost constant enemy air presence. Had a game yesterday came in with about 4 minutes to spare - I didn't change out of my anti-air class once. Just shot down chopper after chopper after chopper. No one on my team bothered and with the exception of myself everyone on my team was around 3-25. Just so very very annoying.

All of you moaning about noobs in TDM make yourselves sound like dicks, to be quite honest. Do you expect these new players to know what they're doing simply because you've been thrashing the game since launch?

If you don't like it, don't play with randoms.

+1 to that. It's embarassing the way some people in here are going on about new players to the game not being as good as players who've been hammering it since November.

Whereas you've sounded like a complete dick throughout the whole thread.

I don't expect them to be good at the game, I expect them to realise they're not good at the game and stop running about like headless chickens. I tried to advise them to move slowly round the outside of the maps until they knew where they were going but instead they just kept charging about in the open.

Which was good of you but really, you have to work this sort of stuff out yourself - we all did. Bit of tolerance perhaps.

Yes, you're right I'm sure, it's just quite hard when you have death raining down on you from the entire air-force through no fault of your own. Never mind, shouldn't last more than a week or so.

it's just a game dude, they have as much right to play it badly as you do to play it well. If you hate playing with ransoms so much, just play private matches.

Just unlocked the Stinger and was pointing at the sky hitting RT with nothing happening. Took a couple of goes to realize I had to lock on with LT first :( The next couple of games was just spent defending areas and waiting for anything airborne to show up :) As soon as you hear that any sort of air is up you can't help but have a quick scan of the sky.

Ground War is so insanely easy to rack up loads of kills in a short amount of time, especially on Domination. After I unlocked Claymores I got the same guy 4 times in 1 minute as he kept walking the same way. You almost have to have Scavenger on because otherwise you run out of ammo way too quickly

What's the story with claymores and scavenger? Is there any limit to the amount you can have planted or do they disappear after you've scavenged and dropped your 10th (or whatever) mine?

A new claymore for every kill pickup! I have never had as many as 10 but i have deffo had a few on the go in the building in the middle of the derail map.

You can have a max of two claymores out at once - they disappear in a harmless explosion oldest-to-first as you plant new ones.

Claymores are one of the reasons I love using Marathon Pro and Lightweight Pro. I'm already past those explosive mofos and aiming at the campers who laid them before they get to do their thing.

You see, I think that Marathon is broken for that very reason. Being able to sprint through an anti-personnel mine seems as out-of-place as dual-wielding shotguns. I realise that the game is not an exercise in realism, but you have tools to take out or disable claymores, so it seems odd to be able to Carl Lewis your way through them, especially from a standing start 2 feet away.

Claymore placement is important. You have to place them further back than you did in MW4 and take into account whether it is somewhere likely to have people run in or walk in cautiously. Ladders are amazing for them as everyone comes up at virtually the same speed and will only survive with the perk that delays the explosion long enough to run away.

Scavenger is essential for that class so I have a Stinger as secondary just so I can constantly knock anything out of the sky. It means that even when they seem to be able to have constant air support you can kill it almost as fast as they can spawn them.

That building in derail is normally my safe point in TDM. Too many people are attracted to it so it is quite easy to rack up a few kills inside and every so often pop up at a window and pick someone off. I avoid it totally in all other game modes which is probably the backwards way to go about things.
