I don't know whether I should be flattered by the matchmaking server or still regard it as utterly broken. Last night I found myself in a lobby with a clan and two level twos. As the intermission ended, I thoroughly expected to be shoved with the newcomers against the clan, and so it was. And somehow we won, so fuck you, clans, and fuck you, matchmaking.

Later on another clan joined the lobby and the server put the two clans together. Ground War with seven headsets on their side compared to one on mine. Well, excuse my rage quitting before the game even starts, but I'm not having that.

The funniest way to kill someone you've snuck up on in this is to just plant a claymore at their feet, preferably from a long run up. I always hope they watch the killcam afterwards, and see me charging at them with my claymore held high, only to drop it behind them and run away, giggling with glee.

Much better than stabbing people.

He followed me for about 4 games in a row trying to get me killed and I got probably my best scores of the day throughout, it was hilarious. He had no headset in (message was text), I imagine he was going mental though.

I was playing against someone who had the same idea, so we both ran towards each other and planted claymores - both died in the process in a mirror image of each other

It's a shame they don't have a media theatre like Halo 3 did. I would love to rewatch matches from other people's points of view. Hell, I'd even love to rewatch them from my pov. There's some filthy unbelievable kills that need to be saved.

This has been my first foray into the world of Xbox live in a meaningful sense (something like 3 days in game played) and I have to say wow it's depressing. Not the game but the people (not from here obviously). I must at least two or three times a day now file a complaint against someone for having a variant of the GT Death2[insert racist term here] or have given themselves the clan tag 'Kill', followed by their GT being something racist. And all the kids on the mics talking in that terrible faux rude boy accent and threatening each other or just swearing over and over and over and over at each other. And that's before we get into the people actually in game nuke boosting or using the runny stab care package glitch, and domination now becoming a pointless exercise as people just play for kills not play to win the game.

And not even ranting as someone who's been doing badly I just spanked the last five game I played. But after I had to file another complain for someone on my team (who was nuke boosting I might add) called... well.... i'm not going to write it here but let's just say he really didn't like the indian sub continent. I've come to the conclusion I may have to retire from this for a while

I'm beginning to think that that in terrorist training camps they aren't paying video's of western decadence and our world leaders they're just playing some xbox live footage... frankly it'd make me want to jihad. It's just a horrendously depressing experience learning that 95% of people playing this game are just utter c***s.

Different games attract different types of fuckhead, some more tolerable than others - MW2 seems to attract the worst of them. Also, get your friends list built up with mates you know in real life and people off here or other forums.

The pain of constantly being stuck on fucking useless teams.

I swear, I keep ending up on teams where no fucker shoots down UAV's, counter UAV's, or any kind of air support. We just got the shit kicked out of us, the other side (and this is Mercenary TDM) had one guy with a UAV/Counter UAV setup and we just couldnt handle it. I got the most kills, least deaths, shot down 2 UAV's and a Harrier and we still lost something like 7500-3500. Its really annoying when you just get teamed up with a bunch of twats who think that looking out of a window with their Intervention is the way to play the game.

Xbox live has actually taught me quite a lot about human nature. Its fascinating to witness that as soon as someone is anonymous they become immediately antagonistic and hostile. I remember first being on the XBL beta and dropping into rooms on revolt with boozy the clown and fazz and we'd be like "oh hi guys" and people would respond "shut up you faggot" immediately.

My most played mode is FFA when I am on my own. Sometimes I fancy a team based game when my mates arent online and I figure that I'll have more chance of getting an evenly matched game if I avoid the games where clans just murder pickup groups and mercenary TDM can often be that place. Its just that sometimes its an exercise in frustration!

FFA isn't the way the game was designed to be played, and it shows. The maps aren't really made for it either, apart from maybe Rust.

The game is designed around team play, and almost all the nuances of the various killstreaks and radar usage is lost in FFA. Merc TDM is normally what I play if I'm on my own.

Wars weren't designed to be fought by one man, but that didn't stop John Rambo and he didn't even get killstreak rewards.

That's nonsense. Rust is the worst FFA map! All you do is run around shooting the first person to run into your sights before getting shot yourself. Pretty much the only way to get a decent killstreak is to be the first person up the tower - and that's dull. I only see Rust as a way to boost my Raffica XP.

All the other maps are great in FFA, and offer some excellent tactical opportunities. But then if you're mainly used to playing TDM, they would be easy to miss I suppose.

I suppose that if FFA isn't the way it's supposed to be played, I should stop enjoying it! But it's far more exciting than TDM for me, personally. If everyone's out to get you, and you get them instead, that's what it's all about.

Some maps are great for FFA, in fact most of them are. Some are just too big though. FFA on the bigger maps can be a snoozefest though.

But the problem with TDM is that noone i have played it with plays as a team... If you team up as a three with one person using a riot shield drawing fire and the other two with Assault rifles etc you can normally beat 70-80 % of other players you come up against as they are all running around being rambo... It would be sooo ace to be able to play (when your mates aren't on obviously cos i normally just default to waiting for them to play with) every time with people actually trying ot play like a proper tactical squad. On Battlefield modern combat back in the day there was a real squad vibe going on especially as the vehicles really worked best with more then one player in them... That is what is missing from what is a quality fps... Also because everyone runs around rambo style getting all over the map you end up being stabbed from behind... there is no real 'feeling' of war where you know where the enemy are and can tactically maneover to flank them (ala band of brothers hells highway single player).

Wasteland isn't shit at all, if you avoid camping in the tunnels. That happens in TDM anyway though, and it's down to the questionable map design rather than the gametype.

I'm not sure if Derail is even in the FFA maps anymore, I haven't come across it in at least a couple of weeks.

Here is a list of excellent FFA maps: Invasion, Afghan, High Rise, Estate, Rundown (?), Underpass, Terminal, Scrapyard, Quarry, Favela, that other one like Invasion that I can't remember the name of, Skidrow...ya get me? All fantastic.

Underpass is probably my favourite of all, closely followed by Invasion, then Estate.

I have played plenty of TDM, Sabotage and Domination, but they're not as fun for me as FFA. I prefer the pressure of being one against seven, rather than the reduced TDM odds.

I have changed my class a few times now mind you, I've been through the FAMAS and the AUG and have now completed the ACR challenges, plus I've fully unlocked the Raffica, so I've seen my fair share of what MW2 has to offer.

Despite your insinuation Isaac, I'm perfectly qualified to say that TDM is not 'the way MW2 is meant to be played'. It's simply one of the ways, and is in no way 'superior' to FFA.
