Modern Warfare 2

After a couple of weeks of bad latency last night was a refreshing change. Only had one host migration all night and things ran very nicely. Plus, I started using the ACR instead of the SCAR (which has been my trusty AR ever since it became available). My god it's a fine gun. So little recoil, massive clip, fast fire rate. Lovely :D

Had some funny games today. Someone on my team started following me around for some reason, and then he told me that I'm "too coward and camping for [his] liking." Well I never stop moving, but anyway. He started following me around and firing his weapon to draw enemies to us. Man, we need to start doing that as a tactic. Enemies were coming at me left right and centre and my always-full clip meant I was taking them all out. Streak after streak. He then decided to trap me in the bathroom on Favela (blocking the doorway), firing his weapon again, so I pulled my shotgun out and waited. Ironically the first time since I'd started playing with him that I'd camped. About 8 kills in a row, Predator, Harrier, Pave Low. He was there using all his ammo, picking up more of the dead bodies, firing and firing, tossing flashes, grenades, firing rockets, jumping in front of me, and I just sat there with the shotgun taking out investigating enemy after investigating enemy. Boom boom boom. It was brilliant.

Steaming through this on Veteran difficulty. It's taking me much less time than it did on regular and is actually quite fun compared to the gruelling slog that the original MW's Veteran playthrough was. So relieving and satisfying when you hear the typing sound effect for the checkpoint. :D. Only just started act II mind. Dreading the

Gulag

level :(.

I have now converted to the joys of noobtubing and generally causing mischief with the ACR with shotgun attachment and thumper with Scavenger. Still some pretty bad, laggy games tonight but overall probably my most experimental yet since I got the game. Also definitely a lot less akimbo shotgunners about when I played although I got completely mashed in several FFA's by all the airborne killstreaking that was going on.

My one big query still concerns the people who silence their shotgun. I was thinking that surely this is a redundant attachment since you could just as well knife the person such would have to be the lack of distance between you and another player to be able to kill them with the former.

I'm starting to get really annoyed with games where you can't move for all the air attacks. What is the best way to get rid of them? I'm thinking I could just set up an anti-air class to use when I'm getting battered and can't move.

As soon as you die to any air, switch to a class cold blooded with a stinger and scavenger. They won't shoot you when you're cold blooded and the stinger gets 2 shots.

I'm getting quite annoyed by all the accusations of boosting that go on as soon as someone starts scoring well - that happens more often than actual boosting in my experience. I played a game yesterday when one kiddie who was level 70 came third, I was second (I'm L59 now) and a kid at level 69 was first (none of us prestiged). I think I was 28-9 and the winner was 30-14, so obviously not boosted scores, but the kid in 3rd place wouldn't shut up with the sweary boosting accusations, to the extent that the winner quit out of the lobby before the next game started.

I made sure I thrashed the 3rd place guy good and proper in the next few games before reporting him, mind you.

I'm a level 22

Is there anything other than cold blooded that will give me a few seconds to get a shot off?

The spawning really fucked me off tonight. I had one spawn as bad as dumping me right into the sights of a dude walking forward- I was dead before I even got to physically move. Another sandwiched me between two enemies- I managed to catch the first off guard and the second one behind me simply finished me off. Another time I spawned right under a window where an enemy was camping on Quarry! Cheers game! Now some of the time I die I can expect to die again with little to no chance of escape!

If its meant to spawn you with your teammates, then about a 1/3 of the time, I'm nearer to a fucking enemy than I am to a teammate. It's terrible- why can't the game know ENEMY HERE DO NOT SPAWN PLAYER RIGHT IN FRONT. Like I said before, the maps are big enough that I'd rather run back into the action for a few moments than be dumped right in the middle of enemy lines. More annoying than any pre patch 1887 shit. The spawning system is genuinely flawed- I'm surprised more aren't pissed off about it or maybe I'm just incredibly unlucky

Why not stay in buildings? You pick up load of indoor kills during air attacks I find. Favela is particularly good during air attacks too, as you can move around easily in the open as long as you follow the direction of the air.

Actually the only one that's a bit troublesome for air attacks is Wasteland, and that's not even so bad.

Yeah, by hide I mean stay indoors. Usually a hind/harrier will shoot if you're in it's sights or vicinity (like the harriers nose is facing you)- so it gives you scope to shoot out of windows and stuff without getting killed as long as you avoid putting yourself out there to be shot

I was getting completely raped by air attacks on Terminal earlier..

I had a few games in a row where I would just spawn and die over and over again, I didn't have time to move indoors.

Terminal has a lot of glass ceilings which leave you vulnerable. When air support comes i, make sure you look up and see if you're safe

Had a brilliant one when facing the chopper gunner on Terminal. My team kept spawning, with no variation at all, in the little shop next to the boarding tunnel and the chopper hovered just outside for the entire duration of its flight. The chap using it didn't even have to aim. Bloody annoying.

It's the same in FFA. I killed a guy going up on the narrow walkway that goes up into the top corner of Quarry, and as I got to the top two seconds later it spawned him in the alcove right in front of me, ready to be shot again. That sort of thing happens all the time.

The spawning system is the single worst thing about multiplayer. I'm assuming there's some kind of 'safe area' like in Halo where you can spawn, but I think in this it's just way too fucking small. Well, it's either that or my tin-foil hat conspiracy that they thought up the idea of the 'Payback' and then decided to encourage it by spawning you close to your killer as much as possible is actually true. Either way, the number of times my killcam has shown the guy spawning is ridiculous. The ones where it shows me in third-person (or is it second person? ) getting the original kill are the real kickers.

Apparently the game decides your spawn point at the point you die, not when you respawn. So if you skip the kill-cam it should help.

I'm pretty impatient so I'm pretty much always pressing X to get back in asap- still happens though

I had an occasion tonight where it spawned me half a foot from a claymore, bang, grrr.

Unlocked Prestige last night after some more good matches with the ACR (cheers to Blue). I never Prestiged in COD4, but I'm intending to do it this time around, it's a bit of a shame though, after unlocking all those great weapons and perks. Managed to get the 'The harder they fall' challenge after the top scorer on the other team used Tactical Insertion to respawn in a building on Invasion to continue sniping. The best bit was me destroying the TI, only for him to spawn right on top of me. We ran around in a circle for a second as he tried to stab me before I shot him with the AA-12

I love people trying to revenge themselves in this. Got a guy with the AA-12 on a balcony on Invasion. So I went inside and waited to the side of the door to the balcony. Sure enough he ran straight back upstairs, headed for the door, only to get the AA-12 in his face again. Another highlight was moving around the alleys that surround the corner warehouse on Derail. I got spotted by a guy after killing two of his friends, hid behind a pallet and planted a claymore before sprinting away and around the corner. He followed after me, only for the inevitable explosion to kill him. Great fun.

The funniest way to kill someone you've snuck up on in this is to just plant a claymore at their feet, preferably from a long run up. I always hope they watch the killcam afterwards, and see me charging at them with my claymore held high, only to drop it behind them and run away, giggling with glee.

Much better than stabbing people.
