Modern Warfare 2

I hated this 'ripper' shit until I actualy had a go with it in FFA. It's a lot of fun, and still takes skill. It's just not realistic at all.

People always find a way to exploit and 'ruin' games though. In CoD4 everyone was jumping around like a fucking cunt and using ACOG scopes on sniper rifles. This is no different.

Shoot them with a shotgun. Stick with a mate. There are counters to ripper.

Most of them use the Commando perk so don't have Ninja - you can hear their quick little footsteps coming a mile away (as they've always got lightweight as a perk). Make sure you've got some distance from you and the corner they're coming round, raise your sights to head hight and wait for them to hove into view. Seriously, they're cannon fodder, even when you're playing solo they only catch you out in confined spaces or during a reload. I play a bunch of FFA and I've never seen that class win a round - I don't know what folk are getting their knickers in a twist about.

They're too fast.

"There's the bastard, i'll just pull my trigg...."

STAB!

You're too slow. I don't really have a problem with javelin rippers now, as soon as I see the kill go off I know who it is and I keep my eye on him and keep my distance. The knife loadout sacrifices Dead Silence and anti-UAV, you can hear/see them coming from a mile. No doubt they're a bitch on maps like Skidrow but it really isn't that hard to deal with.

Double shotgun guy is a dog rapist though. 67-70 I almost never drop below 4:1, when I can consistently score better with a gimmick loadout that completely goes against what MW is meant to be than I can with something true, well, that's not right.

Mind you, some of my best MW1 games were the ones where I just couldn't be fucked and ran around the map with a USP.

Yeah, you can beat rippers if you just pay attention to where they and your team are, and stick together (and take them down quickly). If you see them running past a window in the distance, don't go and investigate or try to catch them unless you are moving as a group. They thrive on isolating people, just like in the horror movies Ripper is inspired from. "I'll be right back...!"

When I've played as one on Skidrow or whatever, sometimes I've ran into a room with 2-3 guys all looking out the window trying to get easy kills. I take them all out, but I'm wondering why nobody was watching the back entrance or being warned by another victim across the map. I know people are still learning the game though.

I hope the Javelin patch is done soon because that is just shit.

I've never been bothered by a Ripper - I don't even notice if someone is playing that style. When I've played as one I found by far the best tactic was to use your speed to get right behind the enemy team. You can then often get three kills in quick succession, just by starting with the guy at the back and working your way in. And if that happens, that's their fault for not covering their back.

I was loving it but juggernauts, on veteran, solo...they can suck my balls!

with a 50cal if you just empty the clip into them super fast they go down pretty easy. Certainly don't give them time to start firing again, just keep shooting until they drop!

What about the Favela mission with 10 juggernauts and only explosives/knives - has anyone done that on veteran?

Me and TPN tried a few times and kept drawing them through claymores towards the cars at the start, which we circled round desperately firing off thumper rounds. When two or three appeared together we were screwed :(

I wonder how many goes it took for him to crack it.

I think you should have been able to have Marathon or Lightweight but not both.

Sure there are counter-measures to Rippers but to me it's like trying to play a game of football with one guy continually picking the ball up and throwing in the net. Yes, we can all do it if we want to but it's against the spirit of the game.

Last night the Americans seemed to be on in force and I swear I could not find a single lobby that didn't have at least one Javelin-glitching twat.

IW have managed to turn every American into a suicide bomber. Bin Laden needs to be afraid.

I have just unlocked Last Stand Pro, which enables me to use my equipment while in Last Stand.

I have noticed that if I throw a flashbang then I will die instantly and the game will tell me I killed myself rather than giving me a killcam of the guy who put the bullets into me. Anybody know if that means his team dont get the points?

I played an hour of cod4 yesterday, its definately slower due to the lack of marathon perk and dual wield, but its absolutely full of nade spamming and every game turns into one team stuck in a corner getting spawn raped for 10 minutes with very little chance of escaping.

MW2 is infinately better, but its a real shame about a few things they've done to arcade the whole thing up. Dual wielding was a bad idea in halo2, so why they thought to include it here is mental.

Encouraging people to run everywhere goes against what made cod so great int he first place.

I thought BF1943 was incredible and i put loads of time into it. Here's hoping BC2 lives up and I have 2 great games to play

I agree with you. Not keen the dual wielding or the super-fast running

Hardcore's turned me into everything I always hated....I camp, I'm a mortar whore (pulled an epic triple kill planting one by a car this evening after some frustrated enemies came looking for me) and I'm crawling round in foliage like bloody David Bellamy.

I will say that I'm a 1000 more kills than deaths thesedays which I'm pleased with but gah...what have I become!

<_<:o:lol:

Half way through this on veteran and it is a completely different beast. A few controller breaking moments, but other than that, it has been pretty awesome and hasn't turned into the rape factory 4 became. I am only half way through it though. Still only died 3 times on both Favella sections :D

You've just gotta do what it takes to survive man!

I've tried to stick with normal so I can help with teamwork in objective games and not rely on hiding or cold blooded too much. But as someone I know said, certain guns are just too weak outside of HC and it seems to be the only gametype where I can rank up pistols and SMGs. I've really been missing cold blooded since I prestiged the other day, and have stopping power stuck in my 2nd slot almost permanently. CoD4 was the same with the SP/UAV Jammer switch too but the difference seems more dramatic in this unless you're using just SCAR through the early levels.

Just trying to not get too used to a particular mode. I'm always inconsistent up to the later levels so maybe my skillz are pants :(

edit: thanks for the High Explosive tips guys, we used a door-blocking and hiding behind a table method.

man i had an incredible game of demolition tonight. Ended up with 97 kills and 26 deaths, defused about 4 bombs and planted all 4 of the winning bombs myself. I was using UAV, sentry Harrier and it was just continuous support throughout. Made mincemean of the other team and earned 37000xp!

Other than that ive been really struggling through this latest prestige. I need my ACR back

Pleasant surprise with this new patch, we knew they were fixing the javelin glitch but apparently it also contains fixes for map glitches (Afghan rocks), the care package glitch and some improved matchmaking. Excellent. Somehow I don't think it'll take MS a month to review this one.

Good news! Wonder if the PS3 version got the patch, I play on both

Shepherd was just involved in a helicopter crash. He's remarkably agile for somebody who just nearly died. Price and Soap who just fell into some water look like they were the ones in the crash. And Shepherd's a General who's probably never seen real action for 20 years!

He's voiced by Lance Henriksen, which means he must be utterly badass. :)

What is/was the care package glitch? What do you mean by "I don't think it'll take MS a month to review this one"?

I'm playing like such a useless cunt at the moment. I keep getting killed, none of my classes seem right... I don't know what's happened.

Hang in there. This game is definitely a bit weird at times. Everyone I play with agrees that there are days where you just don't get kills you know you should be getting or that you normally get. I think it's as often about lag/latency as it is getting beaten by the better team. I had a shocking 2 days last week and felt like giving up but since then I've been on a major roll. Thing is though, I don't think either the lows of those two days or the highs since are totally down to how I'm playing.

I've ditched silencers though. For me they definitely nerf the weapons too much so I just go loud with stopping power unless there's something in the air, and try to kill anyone that draws to me.

The care package glitch is a way to keep getting new care packages the instant you spawned one. My mate mentioned it last night (360 version) as he was in a game where somebody had been doing it. Ill be buggered if I can remember how he said to do it though. Something about picking up a gun off the floor and pressing right while opening the package.

MS have to QA all patches before they'll permit them to be distributed. It's (sometimes) a very slow service. Given the profile of MW2 they should hopefully put a decent amount of resource on it.

As neom said earlier in the thread, the game is very good at hiding lag/latency unless it's *really* bad at which point people teleport around the screen. I've noticed more and more that a 3-bar connection can be a real issue, although several games I played yesterday where everyone on the other team (and us) had 4-bar connections was still very latent - being dropped by people who hadn't even rounded the corner, only to see them on the killcam standing over me for what seems like an age before pulling the trigger was a frequent occurance and had us cursing like only this game seems to manage. It's great though :D

It's already out on the PS3 apparently, Xbox has been sent to MS, fuck knows about the PC.

Bastards! A twat on my team was Javelin glitching on Terminal, and was arguing with a guy from the other team in the lobby about it. The fool actually considered it a valid means of winning.
