Everyone was right, Driver is lovely. The controls are great as well, they've really nailed it with the default scheme. Only downside is that the original music has gone which is a shame, not really liking the new stuff. Didn't the music use to change to a "chase mode" theme when the police were after you? It's just radio stuff now, still that's a minor ting, Gameloft have done a great job porting this over.

Incidentally has anyone tried that Dungeon Hunter thats out? Quite liked the demo but a bit worried about how samey its going to get.

I think Dungeon Hunter's ace. It's sort of samey in terms of the fact that it's a classic loot-em-up - you go into somewhere, you hack and slash through the enemies, and really it's all about picking up new equipment along the way and kitting out your character- grabbing some rare item and boosting up your stats. There are small puzzles but they don't amount to much more than 'flip switch A to open door B'. There are different abilities and magic things to unlock and use, so there's an element of tactics, plus there's a good variety of locations- you're never wandering through the same generic dungeon over and over again. Bsically I've enjoyed the hell out of it, it's been a lot of fun.

I bought this off your recommendation (as usual).

Nice to know you can clock it - what dungeon level did you get the finish on?

The sword is always on level twenty... somewhere. Then you have to go back up and leave the dungeon. Very tense, as lots of enemies try to steal the sword off you when you've got it. I had it stolen a few times, but managed to get it back.

Today's free game is Wheeler's Treasure, which I paid for, enjoyed, but is one of those games where I keep seeing the icon and thinking I really should get back into it, but I never actually seem to play it.

Urgh, I know this has probably been covered before, but I've got three apps that seem to refuse to update. I've tried downloading the updates on the iPod Touch itself, and then tried via iTunes on the laptop and syncing with the iPod- each time it works, but then they pop up again as updates still available. I'm pretty sure it's not updating them at all- there's a new version of Ravensword out but none of the new tweaks are showing up in my copy. Any ideas..? :(

I have a related problem, which is that updates are actually applied, but still show up as not having been installed. Just waiting a day or so and then trying again seems to fix it for me, but it's annoying.

Orbital is currently my game of choice when I'm listening to the radio :)

My record is 60-ish. I find a good tactic is making a line of small ones stretching across the playing field, and then firing a load of them behind that line. I'll try to get a screenshot tr next time I play it.

I'm gonna have to work harder at it.

I can sometimes get a nice build up going of loads of small orbs around the top of the screen, but it only takes one duff shot to either bounce back or to misfire and take up all the bottom of the screen leaving me blocked.

I can't work out if the game is just great as it is or whether I'd like to see a version where you have control over the power. I like it the way it is, but sometimes I just know I'm fucked cause the orb has too much power to stay where I want it to and I know it's going to bounce back and cross the death line without any other possible way of survival.

Seems pretty good from my first play of it.

It's a confused little app though, the tutorial makes you think it's a platformer, then the first adventure level is a crazy wheel romp, I don't know if it gets back to just character platforming of sorts. Still it's a nice twitch scorer where I can see loads of opportunities to grab extra points. The items mean that you'll get better on further playthroughs too as your character advances.

So, who's excited by Pac-Man C.E. tomorrow? I'll probably grab it, but am a bit miffed that it costs about three quid + another couple of quid of DLC to complete the game. Bit worried about the controls. And the lack of online scoreboards is a bit annoying.

Um, maybe I won't buy it, after all.

(Of course I will.)

Yup, getting - but rather perplexed why it doesn't have online scores. Silly decision.

According to an early purchaser on Touch Arcade (it's out in New Zealand, due to time zones), the DLC actually costs more than the game itself. But then, according to the guy writing about the game for Touch Arcade, the DLC makes up the bulk of the game.

So it almost makes sense in a bizarre, cynical, faintly evil sort of way.

I guess it's a bit different from the 360 version? I remember there were 5 or 6 modes in that. And most of the time, I only ever played the 5 minute Championship mode. No real need to buy anything else beyond that.

No, but I had real problems with stuff yesterday- couldn't do any updates (it would download them but not register them) and iTunes would recognise my password / bank card for buying things but not for buying gifts for other people. I've read elsewhere about a lot of people having problems in the past few days with password / update problems, but maybe I've just been looking for threads about that more as I was having problems.

It works on my computer now I'm in the office, but is still doing that thing where it's saying 'update available' for Catan, downloads it and doesn't see it as updated. Very annoying.

Back on topic - get Gravity Sling everyone. It's free but short, but you can add loads of levels to it for 59p a pop.

Can't stop playing Pac-Man C.E. If this keeps up I'll be jobless, homeless and living in a cardboard box next to a power point, obsessively playing the first level to reach the magic 320,000 high score.

Mind you, one of the reasons I'm playing so much is to try and decide what to say about the controls when I blog about it later. I think some people will label them perfect, some will think they're game-ruining, but most will be somewhere in the middle, where they're absolutely fine until you suddenly lose track of your thumbs and find it impossible to go left or up for half a second. I think I've settled on Option One - dual d-pads - but Option Three - swipe controls - are okay, too. God knows what's going on with Option Two - "direction buttons" - I can't understand how to play at all.

I've been playing with double D Pads, so far. Couldn't get on with the other options - the one with 2 buttons and, what looks like, a space bar is bizarre.

It's great. The whole appvent calender thing has been excellent on the whole, can't really complain about stuff for free.

It's brilliant marketing too. These games could have had free promotions before and nobody would've noticed. Yet I'm checking the website every day to see what the new freebie is.

Really liking geoSpark now. My scores have been around 3,000 since I bought it but it just seems to have clicked and I am now up at around 20,000, still a long way to go yet though.

I got 7,500 on my first go... it really is ace. Is there any need to try playing properly or is it possible just to get huge score one spark at a time, with enough time
