I played Archero for a short while back when I had an iPhone 6. It started stuttering too often and I had to get rid. Since picking up a new iPhone, I've been playing it semi-regularly - enough to save up gems not spent elsewhere to get Meowgik and most of the kit I want to use long term to Epic. So still early days!

I had a look at build recommendations a while back and figured that everything I was using was going to end up shit for anything past Chapter 9 (I'm only on 7 right now) so I've just spent my occasional game time playing some of the dailies and auto-farming Chapter 6 while watching TV, all to level up the ridiculously lucky Brightspear Epic drop I got out of a free Obsidian chest a while back, and doing the same with the Phantom Cloak and so on. I'm about at the point where my best equipment isn't much better than the other stuff I'm levelling up, so hopefully will allow me to move up past Chapter 7 soon enough.

Basically, the game is good enough to be fun just playing the same stuff regularly while using different builds and getting some decent kit levelled up.

Oh, and not spent anything but all those Brightspears in the BattlePass sure did look tempting this month.

I can’t get on with the Tornado blade or whatever it is, gets far too busy on screen when it multiplies and I keep trying to dodge it as it flies back.

I farm lvl 3 rather than lvl 6, it basically plays itself and there isn’t much difference in what you get out of it by comparison.

I’ve spent a tenner, I’ve put so much time into it I felt like I owed them. And once when I was drunk I sent them an email through the messaging system to congratulate them on making a great game...they didn’t reply...:sherlock:

I know what you mean, i just use it as you can get two hits out of it, one on the way and one on the way, back if you're lucky.

I've not spent a penny om the game itself but tbh wouldn't be averse to it considering the amount of enjoyment I've got out of it. But they are so generous with everything I've never really felt the need to.

I think I've been quite unlucky with my free drops/chests looking at some of the stuff you all have but will keep plugging away. I can't do the boss at the end of chapter 8 currently, just does me every time. Usually just farm the dailies and 3 and 6 on hero mode like others.

No, when I’m talking about farming lvl 3 it’s on normal, I am literally whizzing through the levels without any movement required except to walk in and out of the rooms - that’s how you crack through the battle events and the like, proper mindless grinding! You can do that on hero mode but you will die still, and the extras aren’t really worth the required concentration to avoid it. On normal you’re invulnerable.

Also you can do the whole of lvl 3 in under five minutes if you don’t watch any ads ;)

I’m nowhere as far along as you lot:

Is it generally better to upgrade gear or the permanent attributes in the other tab?

Also, I’ve just unlocked world 3 and am struggling. Should I farm world 2 for gear?

Hard to say about attributes, they introduced it after many people had levelled all their gear up.

3 is a killer until you get stronger (all that type are really until you’re appropriately levelled), so milk 1&2.

Thanks to those recommending Grand Mountain Adventure earlier in the thread. Wonderful game. Just full of brilliant design decisions. The Rez-style gently quantised notes when passing gates, the “dialogue” with people on the slopes, the different styles of mountains, the speed at which everything happens, the slightly random rewind feature. It’s a pleasure just to ride down a mountain, never mind the well judged challenges. I’ll be quite sad when I knock off those last few goals.

I have struggled a bit with staying on grinds and getting high points on the trick challenges but touch screen controls don’t really suit that kind of thing I suppose. Also it’s fairly hungry for power. Plays fine on my iPhone 8 but my iPad Air 2 couldn’t handle it even when I dropped all the settings as low as possible.

I like my phone for dip in/out games rather than bigger involved affairs - quite enjoying Bowling Crew which came out a week or so ago, its a FTP bowling game with a structure ripped totally out of Golf Clash. This would normally bother me as dislike such 'homage' being paid but seeing as Golf Clash may as well have stolen the menu and structure code from Supercell with Clash Royale they aren't really on solid ground to complain.

Bowling Crew plays a nice game of bowling, you obtain and power up all kinds of balls, progress thru leagues and play what I assume are asynchronous games against other real people. As I mention the structure is totally ripped from Golf Clash via Clash Royale, with the big clincher for me meaning this means no adverts, which put me off games in an instant. As you progress and level up you get new bowling alleys, which aren't just skins but add things in like tilt or barriers to the lane that you need to learn how to bend or navigate your ball round. The control is well though out and offers a bit of subtly in a simple setup.

Feels like it will get a place on my phone for a while as is perfect to just play for a few minutes and you've always got some in game currency or card coming your way to make you feel like progress is happening.

oh dear, first slay the spire and now a surprise drop for the sequel to desert golfing, called golf on mars

the big additions are a floaty lower gravity physics and multi touch spin whilst aiming ( I only learnt this from reading touch arcade forum)

I’m loving Golf On Mars.

I put countless hours into Desert Golfing and this is more of the same relaxing grind and the new spin feature works really well to make some very satisfying shots. Just lovely.

Golf on Mars is a nice chill timewaster, the spin is lovely when you use for a hole in 1 m, but its ruined when the game generates an impossible level - I’ve had 2 that are simply too high to get the ball up where it needs to go, meaning you have to waste 25 shots to get the skip option

Free with ads. The detection of touch-swiping is a bit iffy, and not all of the generated mazes are great, but it's an interesting distraction. :)

I would stick with it. There are definitely some walls in the game but there’s also a pretty high skill ceiling so it’s not all just about grinding for gear before you can progress. I’m currently on chapter 11 and haven’t spent a penny on it, fwiw.

Came to recommend Grand Mountain Adventure, free to play with a single iap to unlock all content.

This is absolutely glorious, such a chilled experience and the music is so good.

Anyone playing Creatures of Aether? (by the same folks as Rivals of Aether) I’m finding the relative simplicity refreshing. It has a great looking/sounding overall package, too (the music sounds like something taken right out of Shining Force). The card leveling stuff is a bit grindy, but so far I haven’t played against anyone where it feels completely unfair. Worth a look.
