The iOS gaming thread

I had no idea you could even play games on the ATV - does it need the newer firmware though? Mine is on some well old firmware for XBMC, which is all I use it for.

Yes, although I'm sure that anything that requires you to press lots of small icons will have you staring at the phone/pad anyway.

It does look pretty laggy. I imagine it's good for demoing games to an audience.

Don't know about the firmware.

You can't play games on it, but you can send the screens of games you're playing on iOS devices to it.

The thing turning me away from iOS gaming at the moment is how thoroughly boring it's getting. Every single week I check what's coming out on TouchArcade and it's just exactly the same set of games that came out last week but with new names and new graphics. Shitty 2D platformer? Check. Physics-puzzler with three-star reward system? Check. Freemium endless runner (x4)? Check. It just goes on and on. It's like there's no creativity left anymore.

Obviously occasionally there's a game that really gets its hooks into you, but this seems to be getting rarer and rarer.

Going through TouchArcade it's depressing seeing tons of the same stuff, so many bland me-too games that just feel weak and lack personality. I find myself sticking to a few decent games, so it makes me wonder who is actually playing all the shovelware?

Just got a 62 on Impossible Road. Ranked 22! Seriously awesome game and almost impossible to put down. Very Super Hexagony but this is more my cup of tea to be honest. My only gripe is when the ball catches the edge of the road it can flip out which seems like a glitch. Just adds to the challenge I suppose.

It could also do with an instant restart button for when you know your ball is falling into oblivion.

Jesus, it just took me an hour to do this cunting level on Mr Crab:

F273E595-7349-4729-9BDD-22530E9D7AAE-380

It's the third hard 'Bones' level, and you can fall fucking miles from the summit, which climaxes with a long series of short hops. Did an audible "Yess!" on the train when I finally did it just now, but only got two stars so I'll probably be back for more punishment.

OMG, Impossible Road .... It makes Super Hexagon look downright charitable at times. Currently sitting at 52, although a large chunk of that was more due to luck than skill. The amount of times I have missed the road by mere MICROmetres ... Both brilliant, and hideous!

WazHack is a rather tasty rogue like - you can play around with all the 4 character types before spending any cash and I haven't reached that stage yet as I'm still finding out grisly ways to die.

Sorcery! Is also recommended even if it is a bit short, hopefully the next chapter will be out soon.

82 points in Impossible Road. Number 12 in the world (10 if you discard the two hackers at the top). :)

Fuck, this is addictive.

Damn! Just hit 68 myself #23. My wife is getting worried about how much I'm playing this.

I'm so addicted to that one level that i'm now able to complete it without missing a jump

So games via the ATV are unplayably laggy, alas. Shame, as stuff like Air Mail looks really nice, and would control brilliantly but for the lag.

I got contacted by a woman who played Say What You See via the Apple TV with her family. Seemed like a really good idea to me and I wasn't even aware you could do it. So stuff in that vein should work just fine, just not arcade titles.

Sid Meiers Ace Squdron is out, and it's pretty great if you're into a sort of Laser Squad in the sky thing. The IAP thing is done well for a change too.

Laser Squad sort of thing? Sold! Or downloaded for free, at least.
