I used a possibly not-quite-legit strategy of leaving a hull breach in the corridor between battles, moving everyone to my Bridge and then leaving all the zombie things to get sucked out of the hole once the battle had begun!

I've downloaded the Gemini Rue mentioned here, never heard of it. Only played a little but it's really nicely done and brings back memories of playing all those poiny and clicks back in the day. So cheers for the heads up. It reminds me of the less celebrated The Dig but maybe that's just the SciFi bit.

no idea but it's great. i made a point about gaming being an inherently inferior storytelling medium in Off Topic but sometimes there's a game like this or The Walking Dead and if it was on TV i probably wouldn't bother, but the sense of involvement you get by playing a story relative to watching it unfold passively is quite compelling.

I would also recommend Simon the Sorcerer 1 as it has the Chris Barrie voiceover work. Very funny take on the fantasy genre.

I just try to deal with the attackers by swamping them with redshirts and have a medical officer behind them healing as they go.

Yeah, this is my tactic for pretty much all of them ! I encountered a bug where three of mu crew got sucked into space and stayed attached to the ship. Consequently they were still counted as crew even though they were dead and I couldn't hire anyone else. A reboot did sort it though.

I'm playing Star Command on an iPhone 4S, and as soon as I fully upgrade a room it becomes unplayably laggy. Seems to be a common bug from what I can tell browsing their forums, caused by the AI routines that make the characters walk around the rooms. When you fully upgrade a room, there's not enough floor space for them to walk about like they want to and it fucks the frame rate as they desperately try to figure out where to go. Poor little imbeciles.

I'm about to get hold of an iPad, can anyone recommend some decent games for it? I've got a bunch of games on my 4s that I've not really bothered with on the wee screen, like Year Walk.

If you like adventure-y games, some of my favourites are:

The Walking Dead

The Silent Age

Waking Mars

Well, it's true that you have to pay for more episodes. It still costs pocket money though FFS! I know lots of you disagree with me over this, but I don't expect the equivalent to a £40 Wii game for a couple of quid. For £3 I got a good few hours entertainment, and it handles so well I'd like a few more games in this genre.

I love it. I've got a cut-down yet still enjoyable version of Overkill in my pocket for just £2.99. It is proving a bit of a grind now to get the cash for the other weapons, but if I were to stop playing now I've still had more than my moneys worth from it.

Star Command is so frustratingly close to being a good game, but the difficulty becomes ridiculous very early on. Such a shame as it has so many good ideas. I think a few tweaks could make all the difference and I'm hoping the developers take note of what people have been saying!

Leviathan Warships is actually out (iPad only). Seems good.

Star Command... abandoning my first ship and going again from the start, I've only hit a wall now with those fire hornet bastards. You can't be precious with crew at all, you need to reassign them almost constantly which I hadn't realised. It's silly the best situation to be in is gun stations full of redshirts and a medic and the rest of the ship hull-breeched to fuck so any boarders get sucked into space and any that get into a gun room get murdered. Totally agree it could be better though, here's hoping they keep developing it.

Anyone else playing Clash of Clans? gospvg has created a RLLMUK clan but there is only three of us at the moment?

Agreed I'd expected more would be playing this freemium game? It's not bad I only really spend a few minutes each day requesting/sending troops & upgrading anything.Need to look at the beating goblins quest line. Don't really challenge other players, I always defend & let others try & attack my village. Need some stupid amount of coins to do the next town hall upgrade.

I'm playing.

Have just left my clan because the leader has lost the plot and the internal politics have gone crazy. It's a shame because I liked most of the guys and they were all pretty active.

Feel free to join Poet and myself in our new clan: Chevy's Chase

Only set it up this evening so we're pretty barren at the moment - would be good to get a little gang together. I know we could just join you, but... Chevy.

It's a fair point, but you can probably get the Wii game cheaper than what this with all the IAPs and its also multiplayer.

Can anyone recommend a pool (8&9 ball) game on the AppStore?Ideally with multiplayer via Gamecenter?

8 ball pool by miniclip is superb - no game centre it uses their own ID system but you can play against friends.

Yeah, same place I got fucked over at too. The tactic I nailed down for the rest of the game was having an engineer crowed in the corner of each of my gum rooms, then two medics in front and all protected by 3 reds. The enemies would kind of filter through to the two gun rooms and get cut down by my reds, who were constantly getting healed by my medics. Any damage would be sorted by the engineer.

That obviously went out the window when the fire ants appeared. Toasted everyone to a crisp!
