Infestor is a neat little puzzle platformer that's free at the moment, with surprisingly good touch controls. I haven't screwed up once!

Yep this is great. Feels like it was made by peeps who really care about playability.

My only criticism is that the left and right buttons should be shifted all the way to the left - otherwise it's perfect.

the only game i play is Super Hexagon, and only on the toilet or on the bus/tube. i keep trying other ones but they're always disappointing. Ridiculous Fishing has a great aesthetic and presentation but i find it really boring and there's no incentive to keep playing. Year Walk i enjoyed for about 20 minutes in bed one night, and it really scared me at one point which i wasn't expecting, but the puzzles are too obtuse and because it's only on my phone i get bored if i can't progress and i haven't touched it in about 2 months.

i know i've said this before and had all kinds of recommendations which i always look up and investigate, but none seem to have the combination of style, presentation and intuitiveness of Super Hexagon. i think any game that tries to recreate a traditional control system on iPhone is an abject failure. i still think 99% of games released have no charm at all; it's all the same web browser Flash looking cheap crap and naff cartoon animals with no personality.

Super Hexagon is the best game i've played on iOS anyway. by miles.

I don't think the art style will float your boat but you should try out mr crab, in terms of a control scheme built for iOS you don't get any better than this, it's hard as nails as well so should employ the sadistic side you are getting from super hexagon as well.

Both the need for speed one has been used, pretty shitty that the people using them couldn't even post to say thanks and that they had used them

Yeah sorry about that very poor show - next time it'll be PM for codes if that's the state of play.

i looked at it, but as i said before: looks like a shitty Flash game from the internet and the character is stupid and charmless. i know everyone else thinks it's cute but it's just a cartoon animal picked out of a hat with puppy dog eyes. i'm not 5.

downloaded Gemini Rue last night and played it in bed. it's wicked. the fact it's completely voiced helps immeasurably. iOS needs more point and click.

Is an art style really enough to completely put you off of a game?

Mr Crab looks good enough, nothing spectacular but games don't need to. I mean New Super Mario Bros looks like a cartoon game made for children but you wouldn't write it off.

The thing is there is a lot of shit out for iOS, but there are some incredible games too. You're generalising to make a point that doesn't even make much sense.

A game's aesthetics are an extremely important element to me. New Super Mario Bros has a great visual style (although SMW and Yoshi's Island have far better iconography and general art direction). But when the only thing you're able to discern is that it is "a cartoon game made for children", you probably just don't really care for a game's visuals that much. Lots of iOS games do have arresting graphics, but a cheap and uninspired look can put me off a game wholesale.

The rotating tower aspect of the Mr Crab game is good and is really clever how it works in terms of a game mechanic. The character design though could have been lifted from any one of a multitude of iOS games, its prett generic and almost put me off downloading myself. As I say though, the gameplay is solid and its got some really clever/devious level design going on.

Yeah Mario was a poor example, of course I love its art style.

Mr Crab looks alright enough but if you're deciding whether the game is good or not on the basis of game design then it's not the game for you. What Mr Crab looks like is completely irrelevant, he doesn't need any character. It's the controlls that make this game what it is.

It's like the anti-little big planet. It doesn't look that great but the jump is perfect.

It's not technical quality so much as aesthetics. Mr Crab's a right ugly bugger and it's all a bit garish. Fortunately it's a lot of fun to play.

Having said that...elmo, have you had any issues with jumps not registering? It seems to struggle a bit when you're jumping twice in quick succession.

I thought I was experiencing that but what happens is that if you're just over the edge of a platform when you hit jump, the little prick won't because technically, you're already falling.

It just looks so generic from a charactger design point of view, and as noted above, some of the levels are terribley garish.

It controls and plays like a dream though.

If the game focused on the character, that would be an issue. But it doesn't. The character needs no depth, so it could be anything.

Has anyone tried the Talisman game? Used the love the board game as a kid but seem to remember a game lasted for hours.

I purchased it last night but not tried it yet, single player only (multiplayer later) but been getting great reviews so looking forward to putting some time into it tonight

Yeah, I worked that out after a bit more time with it, it's just very exacting about timing. What a prick.

(His game's pretty great, mind.)

It's a weird game, really. The music's weird, and the character design's weird, and it doesn't quite feel like anything else. And it's weirdly stressful despite the fact that you can only fall rather than die. Weird but good.

It stands out for sure. You get a real rush when completing the final 'real' level, but now i keep playing it over and over again. I've completed it like 40 times now, i'm trying to do it without missing a single jump and i was SO close to doing that today.

I'm like a drug addict chasing his first high.
