The iOS gaming thread

It hasn't really "gone free," has it? I thought it was more like a sequel.

What is it?

It's mostly the same game but with an extra push for IAP purchases, lots more grinding to unlock the stuff that was previously free and the extra tracks that have doubled in price. If you don't already have the original then this is good to get, if not it's just a repackaged version of the 1st game.

The iOS version of Need for Speed Most Wanted is really good, and worth getting in the sale. It’s like a cut-down version of Burnout; the graphics are really impressive, and there’s a satisfying drift mechanic.

4NR is good, although the controls aren't perfect. Enjoyed reaching the top and the bottom, but prob won't try for the other endings they advertise as I'll just jump instead of stepping at some point and throw my phone out the window.

So, GTA Vice City is out on a fortnight. 3 was unplayable on my Iphone 4 when it came out but I've been playing it loads on the ipad recently.

I'm quite looking forward to it - I replayed San An on the xbox a couple of years ago, so Vice City is the only one I haven;t really revisited.

Anyone else tried Gameloft's new Dota clone? Heroes of Order & Chaos is free and so obviously pushes you towards IAP but I can't tell if it's irritating yet as I've only done the tutorial and couldn't get into a game because either the servers were bust or my net connection was being flaky.

Hill Climb Racing is a fun little diversion that's taking up plenty of my time at the moment, a 2D racing game where the aim is to simply get as far as possible as the terrain gets trickier you will need to buy upgrades for your car but there are plenty of coins so the in app purchases aren't really necessary which is always good for this type of game. I'd recommend getting the monster truck as soon as possible.

Anyway worth a punt for free surely.

Bridge Constructor has been reduced in the Thanksgiving sale, the controls are ever so slightly fiddly to start with, but if you're a fan of that sort of physics based building game it's well worth 69p. Guaranteed it will have you googling bridge types for ideas.

Oh man, this is superb

Anyone know if it has iCloud game syncing? It'll be perfect to play on my iPad.

Coaster Crazy

If Rollercoaster Tycoon on iOS has this with a load of micromanagement and park design, great. Freemium, but I've opened up the sandbox without worrying about IAP. Keep the app open for 10 mins and you can quickly gather a lot of bucks.

The animation and reactions of the characters are cool and the controls are intuitive.

Been playing this a lot lately, it's great! Thanks for the heads up!

Taking this months edge recommendation: "girls like robots" is **really** good.

Nice characterisation, and a puzzle game that isn't afraid to completely upend its own rule set every four or five levels or so, while still holding onto the theme. And only 3000 entries on the leaderboard :-(

First impressions of the game store - what an incredible load of tat

That was my impression 1st time too. You need to use sources outside of the game store to find the best games. Just search for best of iOS games list and choose from there. There's a lot of quality mixed in with tons of crap.
