Tiny Troopers is alright, but for me it just ramps up in difficulty far too early. You can be doing fine, taking out tanks and baddies and then one stray rocket and that's all your men down and out and the mission failed.

Perhaps it's because I've tried this one mission so many times now. I'm close to deleting it.

Has anyone tried Bad Piggies? I had actually forgotten it was released yesterday until the pause screen ads in Angry Birds reminded me.

It's £1.99 & I'm downloading it now. The concept seems like Banjo-Kazooie Nuts & Bolts which sounds fun & different so I'm wiling to give it a shot.

one pins and needles bog break later and can say that I think Bad Piggies is superb, reminds me a lot of fantastic contraption (as wells as nuts & bolts) , an old web game we used to hammer at work endlessly.

oddly it doesn't tell you what is going on that clearly which may deter some iphone gamers, you need to find out things for yourself like tapping jets to direct them in different ways, plus you don't need to 3 star levels in one go, you can build up the achievements in multiple attempts.

its very very good.

I've gone through a few levels of Bad Piggies & it looks like great fun, but I'm not sure how the "mechanic" hint system is supposed to work. It appears to be like the Space Eagles in Angry Birds Space where you can buy uses or earn them through playing, but how do you activate it? There are some levels where I believe it would be handy to have a demonstration of exactly what different kinds of builds can achieve, as this can help you with own design ideas in spite of how fun it is to just slap stuff together & see how it performs.

Do you know what The Last Express is? How big did you think a beautifully animated, dialogue heavy adventure game with numerous branching paths would be?

Man, I've been playing adventure games since ADVENT back in the 70s; of course I know what it is. I've sat in a conference listening to Charles Cecil outlining the amount of content that needs to be generated for adventure games, how much is unused, and how to design to minimize the problem of exponential content growth. So yeah, I know these are big games. I have the calluses from swapping disks when playing Monkey Island on floppy to remind me.

Anyone with a decent connection and a gig free really should go for it.

Me, I can't spring for anything that'll tie my internet connection up for half a day every time it updates. OS X and iOS are bad enough. Just expressing my disappointment at that as my immediate reaction (but I guess, why should you care? I chose to live out in the sticks). This is one adventure game I never quite got around to picking up on physical media, and would have loved to play on iPad. I might well still do so; this is supposed to be a brilliant example of the genre.

Mind you, that's still a hefty chunk of iPad storage.

Ha, sorry chief, its a shame your connection might stop you getting it. I take it for granted these days and to be honest never even looked before I hit "buy" over breakfast.

Bought it from dotemu a while ago but struggled to get it to run properly under OSX or Linux so really looking forward to playing it finally myself.

@deerokus: yeah, I should.

But the iPad is a brilliant platform for adventures - so far I've tried some of the remastered classics: Monkey Island 1 & 2 and Broken Sword, and playing them sitting on the sofa like an interactive book is just so natural.

These clock in at 180, 350 and 650 Mb. But to be honest, I have to think twice about most iPad apps, especially now these have to have resources for retina resolutions, as they mostly come in at over 100Mb. Stuff like Osmos and Spacechem is much slimmer, as are iPhone games with iPad compatibility.

Yes! 61:00 on Super Hexagon! Kiss it level 1!

Can't believe I managed it, I honestly never thought I'd beat 10 seconds.

You must have been awful, I think I got about 12 on my first go! That said I'm only up to 30 now, prob played it for about 20 mins.

It's definitely a tough game, I just don't see how you could seriously have been stuck at sub 10 seconds for any length of time.

Congrats on your high score though.

Took a little while to click I guess. I'm not that good at reaction tests, so I only started getting better once I knew what was coming. Even now though certain patterns totally phase me and I'll frequently die after 12 seconds.

Also I think I was tapping left and right instead of holding it down to move initially. And I didn't realise you couldn't crash into the sides of pieces you're level with.

Funnily enough there was an update this morning. :)

Actually, it's very easy to replicate how shit I was when I started - just try two difficulty levels up like I just did!

Ah, now I understand! :) 6 seconds on hardest! On the plus the normal one seems way slow now.

I've been enjoying Rayman too, shows how when controls are thought about and done properly platforming and touch can go together.

Surprised more people not mentioned Bad Piggies, I think Rovio have actually made a better core game than Angry Birds but suspect that will actually harm its longevity and sales with the idevice crowd who are after something a little more 'casual' for the bus/train/bog - its a great little game and the sort of thing nintendo would charge £25 for a few years back, to get that much game for 69p is incredible,
