So the iPhone 5 has been announced, & appwise it appears the only major differences are the processor & that the screen is longer. I was hoping for bigger so that the appearance of existing apps would be improved, but it seems now that they will look exactly the same except with borders.

I don't know that the paid for cheat items are that useful, really. Shuffle seems like a good idea but apparently takes two or three seconds to activate so it's only going to slow you down, and there's no guarantee of a better set-up. The boss can actually help you sometimes, because it makes NO MORE MOVE more likely and there's a decent bonus for that. Mud only lasts 15 seconds anyway, and isn't always that much of a hindrance if you get a thing that removes a type of animal at the start. Obviously it will be semi-useful, but I don't think any of them are really going to be the difference between victory and defeat if you're a decent player anyway.

It would have been better (read: fairer) if they'd limited IAP to new backgrounds, greatings and other customisable tat. I do like the game, but behind the cutesy exterior, there's a really a cynical approach to milking money out of people. On a different note, I would be interested to know if the top players do have any tactics other than make moves as quickly as possible. I've got a winning streak of 9, best attack 400 odd which I guess is okay, but I couldn't attribute that to anything more than being fast / a good board.

Why would a bigger screen make the apps look better? Wouldn't they just be more pixelated?

I think bigger would be a huge improvement. There are plenty of pixels so it won't look blocky.

I do envy those massive screen android phones. I wish Apple had gone bigger all round instead of the utterly pointless longer screen.

The Retina display would actually look better blown up slightly IMO. It's super-detailed resolution is actually being slightly wasted on such a small screen size.

I'm a total WIZARD at typing quickly on an iphone with one hand (and barely even looking as well)... a fatter screen would sap my powers.

Happy Street is beginning to lessen its grip on my life.

Since hitting level 17 or so I've had no quests/goals to go through.

Just leveling up buildings now. Only a couple more to go then I think I'm done. That's likely to be once I hit level 20.

Has been a fun ride

Don't delete it just yet. A recent tweet announced a big update due with new buildings, characters, and objectives.

I've just backed the kickstarter for the iControlPad2. I'm not really sure what to feel about that, TBH - I just promised to pay £54 for a physical controller for my iPhone... (should they achieve their funding goal, anyway).

But then, the original iCP wasn't far off that mark, and I'd been umming and ahhing about getting one of those for aaaages. And I admire these guys' persistence for trying to plug away at fulfilling a user demand that Apple will most likely be content to ignore forever. And with the iCade coming in and kind of shoehorning in an unofficial interface standard, it should be pretty safe to not get suddenly nixed and made incompatible....

Plus the firmware for it is going to be open source, which means two things: anyone with the skills can have a hack at different ways of making it work with devices, and also, should another standard for interfacing analogue controls come along icade-style, it can be programmed to support that. So there's hope for analogue support for non-jailbroken devices, should someone figure out how to do that.

(I'm a jailbreaker, so there's a good chance of getting analogue support for just about any game eventually, just like we now have iCade support for any app with on-screen controls through Blutrol, but it's nice to have the hope for more mainstream applications.)

TL;DR summary: I promised money to some enterprising dudes for their gutsy determination and taking a risk. I might get a decent physical controller out of it.

Just brought Kingdom rush HD, on the recommendations from you guys, as they normally superb (not really done TD before though so it just be quite interesting) I was going to ask before buying it if it was worth the 69p before coming to my senses and just paying for it.

Fuck me what has IOS pricing done to me, i'll happily spend £1 plus on a bottle of drink but question 69p for a game

iId totally forgotten about blutrol, brought it a while ago and worked great on games with a fixed placement of the on screen control stick. but really feel apart on games that used 'floating' control sticks.

just seen that version 2 is out. i am hoping it fixed the above issue!

Having recently bought an iPad 2, i've kicked off my iOS Tablet gaming with Angry Birds Space HD, World of Goo & Air Mail. I'm on the look-out now for some good card & board games to really take advantage of the increased screen real estate over the iPod Touch. Any reccomendations?

I was a bit gutted to discover that I can't play Air Mail on my iPad1. I bet it looks great on the bigger screen.

Incidentally I've now got a high score of 22,095 on the Training Run course on Express Delivery. Soooo addictive!

I've just finished the main game and so far I've only found one of the 25 golden monkeys, so will be going back through the levels to seek out the little buggers. There is so much game to be had for a mere £1.99.

Acension, Summoner Wars, Le Havre, Caylus and Tikal are all pretty great off the top of my head. There are loads more though. I must have 20-30 board/card games on my iPad....

I saw one of those in Domeeka earlier. Definitely going to be hunting all those down.

I think it's an absolutely wonderful game. The missions are fun and varied, the graphics are great, the controls are great, it seems to have legs as a score attack game (you wait until you get stuck into Express Delivery), and the Free Exploration mode is lovely and relaxing. Thanks so much for recommending it!

Not really a board game, but Plague Inc is very nice. http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/plague-inc./id525818839?mt=8 Make an illness wipe out humanity, in essence.

Certainly it's the sort of thing that is far more suited to iPad than iPhone.

Finally got around to playing Ascension and I think it's really great. This was not comfortable to play on the iTouch, but on the iPad it's a dream. I think i've pretty much got the hang of it although I don't see much point in banishing cards so far. Any idea of which expansion pack to get for it first, Revenge of the Fallen or Storm of Souls?

Revenge if the Fallen was the first expansion, but I'd get both as they are equally as good.

Banishing cards is important when you have enough 'better' cards that you don't want any of the initial cards any more, especially as they aren't worth anything at the end of the game either.

I posted this up in the Kickstarter thread but if anyone enjoyed Sword of Fargoal then the long-awaited sequel has gone down the Kickstarter route. Donation levels starting from $1... really hope they get to make this as I enjoyed the hell out of the iOS version of the original.
