Is Appshopper worth grabbing? or is there something similar that keeps tracks of free/offer apps?

I've tried one of the others (Fire App?) but settled with Appshopper as it does the job perfectly and the interface is clean. It was also the most recommended across the web. I've saved quids with this app.

That's not a fair comparison though, IRL Guage would be: Balance this marble on a book. If it falls off you lose a life. If you've successfully managed to balance it for 30seconds then an earthquake starts, it gets stronger and stronger. After a minute you're given a second book to hold in your other hand which is a different size and weight, then you're fed alcohol into your bloodstream so you start seeing double and lose your balance.

Can anyone recommend any good word games. I have Words With Friends and just tried Dabble (seems a bit flakey). A Scrabble Scramble-esque game would be ace (not Scramble With Friends, something I can play on my own).

NineOut is currently free, and should be of interest to all those who love numbers.

NineOut is brilliant. It's battling away with Drop 7 as my puzzle game of choice.

And for word games Quarrel is well worth checking out. Really nicely done and a lot of fun- it's kind of a cartoony Risk with word battles to gain territory.

I've no idea what those games are like so don't know if these are what you are after, but for me the essential iOS word games are Quarrel, SpellTower, Woooords and Boggle.

Brilliant, will be trying those along with the couple of others mentioned.

Had a go at the following just now:

Jumbline 2 - it's okay, basically find all words with the letters given. Seemed a bit anemic though.

Word Fu Plus - iPhone game, shake dice to get letters then spell words. Would have been good if the touch detection was better, plus the dice 'rolling' was bloody awful, they jump about rather than roll. Nice idea marred by poor execution.

WELDER - picked this up recently when it was free. Nice Bejewled-with-letters sort of deal. I liked the slow pace of it.

Yeah, Spell Tower is the word game on iOS. Closely followed by WordJong, both excellent if you're playing alone.

I thought W.E.L.D.E.R. was shit. It has those pathetic "spend real money to get higher scores!" in-app purchases and so is a complete waste of time.

Maybe I'm playing WELDER wrong then. I know it has some daft currency but never really bothered with it. What I played was relaxing and a challenge. Bit shit if it's as you say though. I got it for free so can't really complain.

I downloaded a free puzzler last night - Vibre - where you have to get rid of all the dots in a set number of moves. You press a dot and they send out a ripple from their centre and if they hit another dot that sends out another ripple. The colour of the dot means a different sized ripple and when a ripple hits another dot the colour mixes and.... It seems much harder to explain and better that you try it. I still haven't decided if its aces or not.

I got it for free so can't really complain.

I used to say this, but modern gaming and all of its "free" games have changed how I feel about it. I really think now that if a game has gouging or pay-to-win microtransactions that's as much a cause to complain as with a bad £40 game.
