Want to suggest Globulous, two people I know who worked on it have done a great job. I don't usually promote games just because I know someone who worked on it but I'm genuinely enjoying this and hope it works out for them both.

Won't you miss all those genres that simply don't work on the iMachines?

I think most if not all genres can work on them, if designed intelligently, but that's largely irrelevant to me anyway. If a particular genre or game doesn't work on that device I just give it a swerve. More importantly the games cost next to nothing, or actually nothing, I always have the phone and/or iPad with me and so don't need a separate dedicated device just to play games, and I never, ever have the time to sit and play games on the TV at home. I still haven't finished Zelda for christ's sake, and you know how much I love the Wii.

Apart from that, there's something about the format that means that the best games are quirkier and more interesting than what I see on consoles, and I've long been sick of gamepads as a control mechanism. I doubt I'd have got so much out of, say, Zombie Gunship, if I'd had to sit at a desk and play it with a mouse, or use a dedicated handheld costing £X00. Couple of quid though, download it while I'm making a cup of tea at home, and suddenly I'm putting hours into it and my train journeys are flying by. I mean, I've played Undercroft through twice now, which is about 60 hours of gameplay, and that's FREE!

You do have to sort the wheat from the chaff, but even so I'm backed up with quality games to play.

In short iOS gaming rocks.

It's not bad, although the double tapping tends to be a bit unresponsive at times.

Overall I see it as a good time killer.

So, Tetrisphere then?

Drop7 fans might want to check out NineOut.

Cheers, great game that would have totally passed me by. Master mode especially is brain melting at times, but I've got up to 9 on the Leaderboard.... out of 51 people... :)

Actually see a few names I recognise on the board on it... I'll add them if that's cool.

Yeah, but who cares? Apart from some slightly weird stalkery types who like to obsess over their company, there are plenty of games companies putting out mediocre or derivative stuff on the app store. And then there's Cthulhu Saves The World coming out later today which is brilliantly derivative :)

ALL the games in the Atari's Greatest Hits app can be downloaded for FREE today only!

There's 100 of them. Dunno how many are worth bothering with, but hey, free retro can't be bad. Think the app's iCade compatible too?

Yes it's icade compatible. just get the arcade games and the 2600 game you think you might play. I can't see anyone wanting to play Atari maths game or a 2600 port of an arcade game already emulated in the same app.

I'm not really a big strategy fan but I do love the original Advance Wars and it's 1st DS equivalent because it made war so much fun - so is there anything of their ilk available on iOS?

Rogue Planet was a pretty good shot at it.

And I've heard decent things about Mecho Wars but haven't tried it myself. Certainly looks the part...

There's an Advance Wars-style game called UniWar HD. I was waiting to see if anyone else had tried it, but it looks like no-one else has so I might take the plunge. Mecho Wars might play well but I can't bring myself to pay for a game which looks that hideous.

Uniwar is a bit po faced and hexagonal then a AW type game

Mecho Wars is a laugh but its very much a mediocre xerox of Advance Wars
