I almost moved on from Ziggurat with a bunch of games all coming out in close proximity but I decided to not download the others and stick with it for a bit. I'm really glad I did.

Confirmed two things today from Tim Rogers that increased my appreciation of the game.

1) It isn't random, the enemy appearances are totally scripted, which I'd started to suspect but wasn't totally sure, mainly due to a specific annoying red guy that always turns up when I'm trying to hit the first spaceship.

2) If you can survive for 6 minutes something awesome happens. I'm not sure what this is but I must be getting pretty close, my best is now 325 and I was enjoying an awesome sunset :)

The more I play this the more I appreciate how good it actually is. The structure of the enemies which each require specific approaches(yellow ones skim a low shot, big ones you have to nail the heads with full charged shots as they block your shots from hitting the smaller enemies, red ones you have to be defensive and just hold your gun up like a bayonet etc)

I'm finding continued play rewards continued progress too which is always a good sign.

FREE GAMES:

LadyAURORA, press left to go left, right to go right. It's a bit like one of those retro Game&Watch-like games.

That's awesome! Reminds me of the G'n'G minigame in SNK v Capcom on the NeogeoPocket. (And Game n Watch of course)

I’m really enjoying Waking Mars at the moment; it’s a bit like a cross between Exile, Slime World, The Dig and Samorost. The only pube in the ointment is the jetpack controls, which are a bit wonky when trying to go straight up – you have to touch the top centre of the screen, which feels a bit unnatural and obscures your view. But that aside, the game’s had a lot of love put into it, and it really neatly makes a compelling game mechanic out of balancing a simple ecosystem.

Thanks for this recommendation, it's rather good. I see what you mean about the jetpack controls, but so far the pace has been such that it hasn't posed a problem.

Reminds me of a Mastertronic game I used to play called Back to Reality - only good.

I like it a lot. Reminds me of Footballer of the Year, except a bit more in depth and enjoyable. Arcade mode is almost a shame because it doesn't quite show of the range of different situations the player gets put in to. I've only spent ten or minutes on it so far, but thumbs up from me. Did take a few attempts to unlock and buy career mode- shop seemed to hang a few times, and then I couldn't connect... might be my internet connection though, it's been a bit patchy today.

Just had a cracking wee game- got one assist, one goal- basically bossed the midfield like a, um, boss... :)

Thanks man. Hope the purchase thing isn't a wide-spread issue. Not heard about it from anyone else so far...

Hey guys, New Star Soccer is now on iOS! It's free to download and play the Arcade mode, whilst it's 69p to unlock the Career mode.

iTunes (Universal app)

There's also a web-based version (Flash) so you can try before you buy and it's on the Android Market too.

I would love to hear your comments!

This is gaming crack! Great job!!

Any chance we'll get NSGP? footie isn't my thing, but I'd happily pay for that as a handheld game.

There's no chance of NSGP in the near future, although I might be tempted to port Super Laser Racer later this year and see how that goes.

BTW, I've had a lot of comments from people who say football isn't their thing but they are loving the game. :)

I was just about to ask that actually. Dislike football quite passionately but enjoy a good sim. Undecided.

Buy it because Si is a top bloke who deserves unlimited cash. - Buy it even though you won't play it, go and find people in a pub who've put their phone down and buy it on their phone for them.

If only because I want a new NSGP ;P

I second this. I've been playing it non-stop since yesterday afternoon.

However, I would say that it really needs more of an introduction to what career mode is all about before you pay for it, as the arcade mode barely scratches the surface and if it wasn't for reading about the rest of the game on rllmuk, I don't think I'd have paid for the upgrade.

Does wind affect games? Because sometimes I'm pretty sure I've hit the ball dead centre and it goes pathetically off target.

Going through a slump at the moment. Bouncing from club to club, spending a lot of time on the subs bench, hated by my team mates and the fans. It's a tough life. :(

Wind does come into play once you start levelling up, but it will always be displayed at the top of the screen. How responsive is your touch-screen? I have a budget Android phone and sometimes the aiming arrow shifts just as I release, where as my iOS devices are very precise.

I hate you.

There goes my free time. As someone has said, this is like crack.

I'm currently banging them in for St Pauli. My bird can do one though if she thinks I'm doing the decorating.

Goodbye real life...

Seriously, Magnetic Billiards is fucking awesome. Simply yet deep.

I usually can't give a toss about IOS games - this is great.

I take it all back Smitty.

Just got our script for the BAFTA awards on friday. We agreed to give an award away so we have to learn a couple of lines including the least funny joke since David Cameron.
