Is Ascension still seen to be the app store's best card game of its type? I had a go of Shadow Era, but didn't think too much of it.

I've not tried out many others, but Ascension is really good in my book. I bought the IAP expansion and I think it adds a lot to it, the pass to play works really well too. If you're a fan of deck building games then give it a punt.

I've just started the Famous Courses pack after three starring everything previous, I've not seen the 52 card pick up thing either yet.

The iPad and the iPhone courses seem totally different. 52 card pick up is just one of the courses early on in the iPad version, basically all the cards are scattered about arbitrarily. No new mechanics at all, not that it needs it because it's fantastic as is.

Trying to win this Kairoland GP race in Grand Prix Story is doing my head in. Year 30 and I still haven't won it.

I'm currently driving 2 supercars with fully upgraded A rated Turbochargers, B Carbon brakes (dont know why A havent unlocked), v12 engine and A rated slick tyres

Ascension is still amazing, the IAP expansion added a whole new dimension with the abilities of the new cards, plus you can choose to play the IAP seperately instead of combined with the regular deck.

I still play a couple of games a day against forum people most days, if anyone else is still playing it, my username is the same as my forum name, add me! :)

What's the drive train you're using? How well rated are your drivers? How many times have you rebuilt the same configuration?

Drive type is MR, Vettel and his co-driver are pretty well trained and I'm probably on my 4th or 5th rebuild of the same care, making sure aura has been used in the initial build and then again when adding the perks.

Can anyone please recommend a turn based rpg? Prefably free, but it doesnt really matter if it costs me a few quid.

I've been quite enjoying Call of Cthulhu: The Wasted Land. Whilst the interface can be cumbersome the production values are relatively high, the turn-based mechanics are solid, and it's pretty fucking hard as well.

The writing's certainly no Lovecraft though, with woeful dialogue and a plot that exists purely to facilitate your fighting of various cultists and monsters amongst first world war trenches. Works fine for the game but it's a shame they couldn't have pushed the boat out a bit more given the source material, or hired someone who could at least imitate Lovecraft's style instead of being one step above a babelfish translation. Nowhere near enough use of the word 'cyclopean'.

Hmm, is it a game for a fan? I'm a massive HPL fan, but I don't want to play a dopey game just for the association, if you know what I mean.

I may be losing my free time to rebuild. Strangely compelling.

It took an awful lot off me, built three cities and then sent out scouts to start a fourth before I got bored. Great little game, and a steal at 69p.

Well I'm enjoying the game as a game, but as a Lovecraft fan I'm not sure I've seen enough to judge the story. Like I say, I'm finding it genuinely difficult but then again I'm not the greatest strategy player.

Make no mistake the writing is quite poor, but you may well get a kick out of seeing familiar scenarios and creatures from the HPL mythos. Their heart is in the right place and the ideas are all there, it's just a shame they don't have the writing ability to tie it all together and make it 'feel' genuinely Lovecraftian.

But then again maybe I should stop being so harsh on them because it's a good game and a decent bit of fan service.

I've virtually never used irons - I tend to restart the courses instead. Which is stupid, since I can buy more irons anyway.

I thought they were cheating at first, but they are actually a valid tactical part of the game. If you dont use them, especially for the 6 hole courses, you are counting on some amazingly lucky lay of cards each course to get you through.

That said I do sometimes wonder about the random nature of the deck.

Appshopper.

Get the Appshopper app, and you can make a wishlist, then the app notifies you if anything drops in price. Best download ever.

I think he is looking for a website that tracks them, not an app.

I find that part of the fun. Especially on the 9 hole courses. I'm not really in any hurry to "solve" each course since the random draw of the cards make it less of a puzzle game and more skill/luck based. I'll have a couple of goes at a 9 hole course and do terrible. Then I'll clean sweep it. Sometimes I start terribly and turn it around towards the end. I figure it'll make the game last longer if I don't use anything but the clubs I find. Less to think about too. I can zone out while playing and let it flow.

Damn, now I feel like I am cheating again!

I will stop buying the clubs then and see how I go.

You're not cheating man. It's a legit part of the game. Especially if you're not buying golf bucks with IAP :) I'm just too lazy to be bothered thinking about buying clubs :)

Z is reduced to 69p today; it's a conversion of the old Bitmap Brothers RTS game, and seems pretty good from what I've played so far.

Not sure if already posted but Oh! Edo Towns by Kairosoft is 69p

http://itunes.apple....d474177077?mt=8

Was thinking of getting this, but I still have Game Dev to finish/play until bored. Are the Kairosoft titles really all the same in different coats? Or are they actually quite different games?

I think they are all very similar to be honest but all equally enjoyable.

This is my favourite of the Kairosoft citybuilders. Something very relaxing and peaceful and gently pleasurable about it.

They're all citybuilders/resource management so similarish. Game Dev Story is actually the most different from all the others I reckon. GP Story is reasonably different too. Pocket Academy is quite hard, but decent. They all have particular features and so on. So cheap they're all worth attention.
