Gave that Hero Academy a go, and I liked the presentation and animation so much I dropped 69p on the ad-removing extra team before really getting any concept of how to play or whether I'd like it. So I have started too many games with you all in order to get a thorough schooling!

Goat Up was the weakest for me, I hear it works well with the icade but it's kinda boring, essentially one of those games where you keep jumping up and up and die if you fall off the bottom of the screen to see how high you can get.

Had a quick go and Caverns seems like it could be good fun, but yeah, as always with the Minter apps the controls are a bit confusing to start with, the sound effect for hitting walls is a good one though so there's that at least.

Ok does anyone feel like they are good at Hero Academy? lol

I don't, but then I think it's set up that way. 5 turns a round is just enough to secure one aspect of the field, but leave a few others completely open.

Quite clever really.

I've not won a single game yet, so no, I'm terrible at it :) Still enjoying it though.

I've no idea what I'm doing on HeroAcademy (username Wroth, challenge me for an easy win) but the game is really nice and polished. I love the animations and just the whole structure of the game, like if your opponent takes his turn quick enough, it'll automatically play it while you still have it open.

I'm glad they kept most of the microtransaction stuff to things i don't give a shit about. I'm happy to pay for a new team to play with, but I can't for the life of me imagine paying for a couple of 64*64 avatar images. Paying for extra team colours is a bit of a stretch, but fuck it.

I'm in for some Hero Academy too, I'm balir in game, will start games with you lot. I went nuts and bought the dark elves straight off, since it's only 69p today it seemed worth a punt. No idea what anything does though, so go easy on me for the first game at least ;)

Enjoyed that game, even though I really wasn't sure what I was doing! I like the victory dance of your team at the end :)

Main thing I picked up.... if someone is dazed/passed out and you don't heal them, they disappear next turn - that was unhelpful!

Caverns on Minos - really great game thrusty arcade action with good controls ON IPAD... On smaller iOS devices forget it they are shit and unusable left right is bottom left but inexplicably thrust is top right... Fuck knows why.

So just like Minotaur rescue better on iPad

Minotron is good on both as controls are adapted to each device

Deflex works on both without adaptive controls

I dont like goat up on iPad but it is good on iPod/iPhone

Oh and note it support icade as does goat up.

So if ya like good old style arcade action then it's a good bet. 1.49 is a good price for anyone who vaguely likes old arcade games and indeed llamasoft output... To put it in context here is how I rate the llamasoft games so far

Minotron

Deflex

Minotaur rescue

Caverns of Minos - solve the controls on iPod touch and it'll leapfrog rescue

Goat up

Not feeling it for Hero Academy here - it feels way too bitty and disjointed. Think it's the fact you have 5 actions per turn - doesn't feel enough so I never get a sense I'm developing any kind of strategy.

Or that I could turn the tide I of a battle somehow through any type of skill. It all feels very 'lite'.

Lovely presentation though.

Anyone else have Scramble With Friends? Looks like it was designed with IAPs, which were quickly patched out due to negative reviews. What remains is basically asynchronous Boggle...which is great! As always with the "...With Friends" games, there's a free version too :)

Username is AshTreg if anyone picks it up.

No, because games shoehorned onto a format entirely ill-suited to control them shouldn't be encouraged. They're fleeting novelty value at best. I bet even those who said GTA III on iPad was great played it for less than an hour before realising there are many, many better games on the App Store that are actually built around the device. Console ports on iOS are like trying to play a Mario game wearing boxing gloves.

If it has iCade support, I'd definitely buy it.
