Hmmmm. I'm not sure what to make of that to be honest. It doesn't sound like gamenauts were complete dicks about the affair. Offering money, credit and cross promotion. Vlambeer's demand of delaying release seemed like an unreasonable thing to ask for as Gamenauts would have had no real idea when his game would have been actually ready to ship. That's not to say that I don't feel for him in this situation.

I guess he had two solid things to take from this. Firstly that his idea was good, although not wholly original itself, but certainly good enough to be copied and isn't that the best form of flattery. Secondly he could have took it as a challenge, to prove his worth and make a better game.

The fact is, once you release something then it's out there for everyone to see, enjoy and even copy. Your second step is to be the one bringing the new fresher ideas to the table whilst the others are still copying your older work.

Look at Rock Band. Harmonix didn't sulk and whine about Guitar Hero. Instead they took thier knowledge and drive and went on to produce Rock Band, a much better game than Guitar Hero.

I feel like I was the only person in the world to like Trenches (and Stenches, the zombie survival spin off of sorts) but I noticed today that Trenches 2 is out! Seems like more of the same, except with absolute masses of extra tactical options. Been tapping away at it over the morning and it's excellent so far.

Sync the iPad with your account and transfer it over manually in iTunes, then change the store log in details back to hers and voila... your iMame on her iPad.

I've done the same with movies and apps bought on my US account (stuff that isn't available on the UK store) running on my UK account iDevices :)

You utter star.

Rep when refreshed :)

Just wanted to pipe in and say that the icade really is a joy. Can't believe I managed to snag it for a mere 40 quid. Seems pretty robust, works wonderfully with imame, plus the few ipad games I have that support it. I was on the fence with buying it before the price drop and imame double whammy, as I already have a full size arcade cab so wasn't sure it would be worth it due to the limited support. But with the ipad screen it just makes some of the mame stuff really pop out, especially at that size. It's just a brilliant idea executed slickly, shame there isn't more support. I would love a pinball equivalent, or even if the existing pinball games allowed you to use the buttons as flippers (and the stick to launch the ball) as I have that set up on my full size cab and it recreates the pinball feel very well. I wonder how much work is involved from the developer standpoint to make games icade compatible.

Anyway, if you're on the fence with one, they are an absolute steal at the moment, sitting playing Donkey Kong on it last night with a big grin on my face, it's an awesome late Christmas present to myself :)

The last month I've been playing Plants V Zombies, Tiny Wings, Chess With Friends and Tiny Tower. If an iPhone game makes me spend 45 minutes in the bog before releasing I've finished, it must be a good game.

Game center username is mercenarri if anyone wants to add me.

Gah! I've been trying to tell myself I don't need one (got a Mame cab as well), but it does sound lovely.

Icebreaker Hockey is free at the moment- it's by Natural Motion, the guys who had their physics engine in GTAIV (so lots of nice crumpling bodies)- they released Backbreaker Football as well, which I thought it was okay, never really grabbed me, but Icebreaker is a lot better. Simple enough stuff, make it down the ice, dodge the defenders, slam the puck into the net- but the scoring aspect works really well and it looks great, very addictive too. And free. :)

Just to tip you in the wrong direction, the missus got me one for Xmas and it is indeed a thing of loveliness.

Emulators work very nicely on it too, finally a decent sized screen set up for SNES entertainment whilst the she's watching the only way is oh god knows on the telly :)

What emulator are using using with it? Just imame or are there others? My mind goes isnes if it's jailbroken but I didn't think that supported the icade

My pads jailbroken so I'm rocking SNES9x, PCE.emu and GBC.emu, md.emu and gpSPhone all of which support the iCade natively in their latest versions.

IMAME too naturally

Edit - the C64 app also works with it too :)

Hmm. Now I am tempted to revert my ipad2 back to 4.3.3 to put isnes on it...

Shall I make a Wordfeud Thread? If enough people are playing it I'll set one up with usernames and that in it. There's literally no point in WWF now so we might as well get everyone moved over to this! There's not a better option, is there? Wordfeud seems pretty good apart from only getting 40 points for using all the letters in your rack. <_<

I'm toythatkills, obvs.

What's the problem with WWF? It's working OK for me at the moment. Have others been having problems with it?

The last update made DLC available which effectively allows you to cheat. Unless you're playing someone you trust implicitly, you're at a huge disadvantage.

Really? I didn't know that. I have come across a few players using words that I thought they must be looking up online. Really obscure long words, almost every turn. To be fair though, most of the games I play are still against people as retarded as me.

What does the DLC allow players to do then?

One of is a word strength meter that tells you how good your intended word is from the possible words you could make from the letters in your rack. Also there's the other one to check what letters are left still to be drawn, so like when it gets close to the end you could work out what's left and also what your opponent has too.

I rarely play against randoms, so I'm trusting that the regular people I'm playing, mostly from here, plus a couple friends and my mum aren't using the assists.

In proper Scrabble games people mark off what tiles are placed, don't they? To effectively work out what's left at the end? That isn't cheating.

And you've always been able to 'cheat' in WWF; by exiting the app and using one of the many Scrabble word makers or whatever. Those new additions don't really make a difference.

Super Crate Box iOS is due out tonight. I just tried to buy it (69p) but the App Store said it's being 'modified' - Vlambeer's Twitter says it'll be ready in a couple of hours, so I'll give it a go in the morning.

I don't know what the reality of it will be. I never found the original to be frustrating and was always happy enough to die over and over. So long as that doesn't change with touch controls, it should be a nice little game to have.

It's not cheating so much as making a pretty advanced strategy available to all for a cost. It's like if you were really good at FPSs, and someone else bought an IAP that improved their accuracy 200% or something. The advantage you had from just being good at the game is gone, so what's the point in being good at the game?

Well yeah, but now you're as good as encouraged to cheat.

The in app purchases are there to stop shit players being so shit, but instead of encouraging them to learn how to play the game and get better at it, they just do the work for them.

It's fine if you're just playing people you trust, of course, but then so is Wordfeud, and Wordfeud works for playing against randoms too. (And it looks nicer).

Yeah, that's why I can't say I'm really bothered by the update myself. If people want to cheat and use word generator apps or now do it in-game then that's up to them, but hopefully the regular people won't use them.

Though I wouldn't be against switching to Wordfeud if it's better and we're having a mass exodus from here over to it. My mum uses the WWF app on facebook though, so I'll have to keep it so I can keep playing her.
