Why are Nintendo not releasing lite versions of their games on iOS, cut down editions with adverts for the 3DS every 10 seconds?

Seems like they're missing the boat to me on a great, free, form of advertising.

Because they are a platform holder themselves. They advertise their products on TV, on the Wii, the 3DS and the Internet.

Releasing games however cutdown ion the opposition's hardware would be suicide.

I'm surprised they haven't at least tried to get the Game and Watch series on there, they'd be perfect 69p impulse buys.

They sell themselves on their own platform.

anyone else had problems getting roms to work in imame? I copy the zip files into the docs dir on the ipad, but half of them don't show up. Looking in the zip files it seems that if there's no .bin file in there it doesnt pick it up, but most of the .zip's i have have no .bin file in them (stuff like STreet Fighter Alpha etc)

Have you got roms for the correct version of mame? I think mame4all needs 0.37b5.

Have you tried enabling the show clones option?

ah yeah, show clones is set to on, for instance, just downloded the street fighter zero 3 rom, drop the zip file in the dir, but it's not showing up on the romlist, have a look in the zip file and there are no .bin files, just the .05 .06 files, as if something is missing or its not picking up on the fact these are rom images.

That's a pretty old version of the roms, IIRC any of the XBox MAME/FBA will be okay ... actually after checking the XBox roms were 0.84. Are the iMame4All roms 0.138?

EDIT: And after more checking it seems everywhere states Mame4All does use really old rom versions - or I'm messing up the numbering somewhere?

nm, seems not all roms work.. found a list of compatible roms

http://code.google.com/p/imame4all/wiki/GameList

You could run a current set of mame roms through clrmamepro using an 0.37 .dat file to get a full working set (Or you could grab these because that's a pile driver to a nut solution :) )

EDIT: That link gives me a 403, but an 0.37 set is easy to find.

better 30 people buy something for 69p than not one of them buy a 3DS

But better 2 people buy a 3DS and 3 titles than a hundred people buying 69p iOS Mario Kart.

Im not suggesting a full released, I'm talking about the aforementioned cut down versions, which please people who will not want to buy a 3ds, but may entice people who otherwise might not buy a 3ds, as well as sell to the millions of nintendo fans which have an iphone.

The market just sees Mario Kart, £30 and Mario Kart, 69p. Doesn't matter if one is massively cut-down, as far as they're concerned, it's Mario Kart. Nintendo won't do it until (unless) it's literally their last ditch measure before bankruptcy - and that's still a long way off.

there's a lip to stop it falling out, not as secure as in portrait mode..

Dunno if you'll be able to get one from pc world... picked mine up yesterday and the guy basically said they hadn't sold one in all the time he was there, then as soon as they dropped the price to £50 (and then weirldy £40 the following day) they ended up with a room full of reserved ones and they all went in a day..... guess it was a combination of imame and the price drop at the same time.

Very happy with it though. Just need to sort out a decent marque for it....

Tempted to get one of them myself (the iCade, not the child), but feel I missed the boat a bit not getting the mame app before it was pulled. How securely does it hold the iPad in landscape?

As long as your on a flat service your be fine. Pcworld currently have them for 39.99 as well at the moment

If you turn off the tilt controls in Sonic Racing, and turn on the slider control scheme, it's probably the best game of its type on the iPhone.

Admittedly that isn't saying much as I struggle to think of any others, but it's true in any case.

It got really high reviews, but I think that was just because it was a really high profile game, with a really solid 3D engine - back when 3D iPhone games weren't very common.

It's quite a recent game, though!

I'll give it a shot with the slide controls, but I can't believe this was getting 10/10 reviews. A case of misguidedly hyping it up as a Mario Kart beater, surely.

Apart from anything else it's not presented very well as a mobile game. Too many menus to wade through.

Anyone tried "burn and turn"

http://www.next-gen.biz/filter/all/tags/3855/888/3854

I bought based on the edge review but find it completely unplayable. I'm obviously doing something wrong, but i suspect it isn't helped by the virtually non existant instructions.

An 8/10 from edge suggests something in it is good. I can't for the life of me get the dragon to even take off from the castle.

I'd love to, but flash doesn't work on my iPod.

It might be a copy, but it's a good one. Plus in a similar way, why would you play Angry Birds when you can play Crash the Castle?

Because Angry Birds isn't actually a direct clone. The Ninja Fishing guys basically admitted they stole the game wholesale from Vlambeer, developer of Radical Fishing. It's about a tiny indie developer being royally fucked over.

It's not the same situation at all.

Ninja Fishing is a direct rip-off of Radical Fishing, even down to some of the power-ups being identical. GameNauts have a track record of doing this, and they did it in full knowledge that they were going to beat Vlambeer's game to market and squash it with expensive marketing.

You should ask for a refund and get Ridiculous Fishing when it comes out instead.

Incidentally, not only is Angry Birds not a clone of Crush the Castle (different interface, gameplay mechanics, level design and everything else), Crush the Castle did not originate the 'catapult' genre (Castle Clout did).

Looks great (trailer link http://vimeo.com/m/32022226)

Sadly though I see so many games reduced so quickly I'm going to wait until I've played my current apps a bit more in case it goes down to 69p as I've been stung a few times of late.

Colour me corrected.

Where's this all documented? Sounds like bigger news than it has been.

Silly question, but I don't suppose there is a way to transfer iMame from my touch to the wife's pad? I got the pad for a Christmas pressie for her, and didn't want to open it beforehand to get the app on there, and I couldn't think of a sly way of adding it to her account without her noticing.

Basically, I've got no chance have I :(

Sync the iPad with your account and transfer it over manually in iTunes, then change the store log in details back to hers and voila... your iMame on her iPad.

I've done the same with movies and apps bought on my US account (stuff that isn't available on the UK store) running on my UK account iDevices :)
