and 4th gen ipod touch...

Not really that interested unless they have nailed the controls.. which given the screenshot with a million buttons on, I dont think they have ;)

Whilst a bit on the expensive side for iPhone games, Osiris Legends looks like quite an interesting action RPG from an American company. It's a tad bizarre that they're not using it as a selling point, but the studio (Barking Lizards) is run by Sandy Petersen (Call of Cthulhu RPG, Doom II, etc) so there's a fairly impressive pedigree.

Maybe, but the screengrabs look abysmal!

I always get overwhelmed by these upgrade games, panicking over not upgrading something I should be and deciding what to focus on.

It really makes no difference. Eventually, no matter how long you keep them at bay, the zombies will overwhelm your base. The gates will be locked down and the supplies of those inside the base will slowly dwindle over time, leading to recrimination and dissent, a breakdown of human civility and eventual extinction of the last remnants of our once dominant species. Outside, the zombiefication of humanity will continue to grow at an exponential rate, until all previously human habitations become little more than the wandering grounds of the undead.

tl:dr Upgrade the 40mm Bofors auto-cannon first, then the 25mm. Rest is up to you!

You all know Donut Games, right? The excellent Donut Games? Who make really excellent games? You've probably played Cat Physics, you should have done anyway, it's brilliant.

The equally brilliant Cave Bowling is currently FREE. You know what to do.

In case you don't know what to do, here are some instructions:

1) GO AND DOWNLOAD IT RIGHT NOW.

2) ???

3) There's no real way to make a profit, but it's a really good game so it's still fun.

Man, I'm glad this was free. These Donut Games are so frustrating: there's a nice gameplay idea and some fun initial levels, but it eventually becomes fiddly trial-and-error. Some of the later levels in Cat Physics are just stupid.

BTW apologies for offence if you are somehow involved in making these games, your post was very enthusiastic?

This whole EA Tetris thing - could someone tell me whether or not the original Tetris App (which is no longer available on ye app store) is available to download from your "purchased" list on your iOS device, and from the backup on your iTunes library please?

Just trying to understand what the fuss is about.

Yeah I get that, but there's a few claims circling around saying that's it, if you bought it you're now fucked.

Now, to do that, EA would have to get it removed from your HDD or force iTunes to refuse to sync it. They also need to get it removed from the App store completely, including purchased lists.

I don't see how they can do the former (though that's a bigger story if they can) and the latter puts an interesting slant on things. The only thing I've seen confirmed is that I can't get it on the store itself even if I've had it before, which is being dressed as something else entirely.

Do I have to buy a certain upgrade to make Zombie Gunship enjoyable?

I'm really enjoying it. There's a discussion in the BBC Micro thread about how games back then were simplistic and in your mind you filled in the gaps and made it more than it actually was and I get that from Zombie Gunship.

The bleakness of never being able to win, the quiet drone that plays in the background as you look down on innocent civillians getting mauled, unable to hear the screams. The clunk of the 40mm gun and the joyless commentary from your senior as a single bullet snipes a zombie. It's really atmospheric and I love that there's no explanation of why you're in that situation, why you're there is irrelevant, you just do your bit to try and save humanity.

Brilliant isn't it?

Of course, it does get more enjoyable the more you upgrade, but I loved it from the off. It's one of those games where you know, just know, that you can do better next time.

And I totally agree re. the atmosphere. It's quite unique looking as iOS games go.

I was interested it because I enjoyed the AC-130 bits in Modern Warfare, but the annoyance of how you drag the crosshair around and switch between weapons/zoom levels just killed it for me.

At first yeah I found that really clumsy and annoying, but once you get used to the geography of the level cycling through the fire modes just fits into your play, going wide to look elsewhere, going in to lay some clearing 40mm shells and stepping in further to pick out individuals and save people from a mauling. Then the area is clear so it's back out wide again to pick up the next grouping.

Whaaaat?!

It's one of the best draggy abouty interfaces I've used. You can drag and fire, drag and fire, in a really nice rhythm, and once you get used to the best order in which to unload the guns the variable zoom becomes second nature. For instance, when the bigger zombies appear (which I guess you might not have seen yet), it's best to unload a full clip of the chaingun into them, and then you're only one weapon cycle away from the Howitzer to clear the mob. Then it's straight back to the Bofors, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, move, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, move, and so on.

It's lovely.
