I dunno.

If Skyward Sword was available on the iPhone for £1.99 and used touch screen controls I doubt I'd be recommending it to anyone.

FWIW I thought Chinatown wars was awesome on the DS but this version just does not control well enough for me to recommed it to anyone (at any price).

Totally agree, I found it unplayable on iPhone. There's a demo version which gives anyone enough of anidea how they'll get on with it.

I thought Dark Meadow was pretty dull. Lovely graphics, decent script, good atmosphere, but it's no fun to play. Maze of samey corridors, fight, fight, fight, die, repeat.

Infinity Blade's no classic, but it does a similar thing far better, if you ask me.

Crikey, I've just played Dark Meadow for the past four hours...there's nothing you've written above I could disagree with, but I can't stop playing it!

I've never played Infinity Blade, so I suppose I'd like that too?

Just thought I'd throw out a recommendation for Shantae: Risky's Revenge. Well-produced, charming little 'metroidvania' 2D platform title. Think it was originally released on DSiWare. It's a free app to download, with in-app purchase for the full version, which is currently at a vastly-reduced 69p (probably ends soon). Looks a little murky on a retina display, and the control detection zones get a bit frustrating, but doesn't spoil the fun.

I can say with 100% certainty that this would spoil the fun for me.

I think as iOS gamers we need to get past this attitude of "it has shit controls but it's on iOS so it's fine." We need to start judging games properly.

Exactly iOS is chock full of good games with perfect controls in even tricky genres like platformers.. 1000Heroz, Meganoid and league of evil are all top platformers with spot on controls.

Any iOS game review or impression that has a phrase similar to "Controls are good but have some issues" should die by fire along with their reviewer. Mainly because any iOS reviewer who uses that phrase really means "it has shit controls".

If I die due to the control interface then game gets deleted.

Despite moronic protestations here and elsewhere it is perfectly possible to have good touchscreen controls.. The problem is that reviewers and users are too forgiving of controls that arent up to snuff.

I actually thought Shantae controls well. It's not as good as real buttons, obviously, but I never cocked up once while I was playing it a week or so ago. Most on-screen buttons are awful, but they've done a good job of them. The stick on the 3DS isn't as good as the home consoles, but that doesn't stop me enjoying Pilotwings.

I also own Shantae on my DS, but it's so much easier just to whip my iPhone out for a quick bash.

That's fine, but what about Shantae? :eyebrows:

...

Sorry.

Anyway, how do you save in it? It seems to reset whenever I close it. Really hope it doesn't have save points; I had assumed saving was disabled in the demo.

It has save points I'm afraid. They are marked on the map a la metroid

That's a real shame, considering that it doesn't seem to multitask properly (or at least the last time I opened it, I was back at the title screen). Kinda wish I hadn't bought it now.

For 69p it still represents good value for money in my eyes.

Absolutely.

It's got pass/play multiplayer and seems to have local wifi and bluetooth too, so not totally single player focused.

...and, let's not forget, the single player game is absolutely excellent. They've done a great job of putting a simple, easy-to-control interface on it, and the AI are decent enough opponents. As much as I'd love multiplayer support (is it too much to hope that it might come in a future update, I wonder?), it's an absolute steal even without it.

I'm also absolutely loving W.E.L.D.E.R. after seeing the recommendations in here. Great little game that absolutely eats time. If anyone wants to add me for leaderboard fun, I'm SomethingWitty on Game Centre. I suspect my score so far is hopelessly inadequate, but I'd like to see how I measure up...

I played Battle Nations for a few days up to Level 9.

I liked it, but it was a bit too slow going for me, and nano-pods (which you can get awarded but generally you're intended to buy) are a bit annoying - they speed up development but there are also some things you can only get with nano-pods. I found pretty annoying.

Would much prefer just to pay £3 for the game.

Yep, this is what I meant. Are those things just visual vanity items, or do they actually do stuff?
