The iOS gaming thread

Speaking of Squeenix, I hated the Mana port too, but I thought their port of Final Fantasy 3 was excellent. It's basically a HD upscaled version of the DS remake from a few years back. EG gave the DS version a 6 saying it was a bit outdated & there were a number of technical problems. The IOS version runs very smoothly & the HD effect actually looks pretty good on those Square type characters, and as a portable experience it's pretty much the best RPG I've played on the iPad (I'm holding off on Chaos Rings until I actually complete it& GoF2 though). If you like old skool JRPGs it's definitely worth throwing a fiver at!

Has anyone on here got Galaxy on Fire 2? I was going to get it as someone mentioned it in the space combat games thread but it's £7. That of course isn't an insurmountable about of money but it'd have to be pretty good to command that kind of price as an iOS title.

It's pretty good, but I'd wait for the next price drop, they seem to be fairly regular. Alternatively, you could try the first game.

Must have been on sale when you got it - it's £11 now.

Is there any app service where you can bookmark apps, to be alerted when they come down in price?

is anyone else repulsed by the style of most iOS games? like Cut The Rope; it's all that kind of shit artwork you expect from talentless designers who made Crazy Frog and other forgettable cartoon characters used to market tat. it looks so cheap and unremarkable. like Flash-based versions of Diddy Kong Racing or something. it really puts me off 99% of games on the App Store, like Bike Baron

Yes.

Anyone else been playing Quarrel? And if so, has anyone else got very far in Domination? I can't get beyond the green islands at all, it's ridiculously difficult...I'm not missing anything obvious am I?

No you're not, it's just ridiculously hard. I've only beaten the two easiest islands on the orange and blue realms, so versus just one and two players in both cases.

And I'm pretty damn smart! :quote:

I think Bike Baron looks good, or did you mean that?

But yeah, totally agree. There's a definite Flash Gaming aspect to the whole thing, Reminds me of Facebook gaming which in general also looks very samey and shit.

I'm on the last one and can't say it was that much of a struggle getting there but the last one is bastard hard. If you look online each character has a "personality" which they play to. Don't underestimate good strategy either in positioning of your men.

I'm disappointed, Zok. I had mistakenly assumed you knew words and stuff.

I've done all the islands. /smug

Anyone tried Stick Man Cliff Diving? I've found it strangely compelling.

It's a free app but you can bribe the judges to give you another go on a jump or a larger bribe to skip the jump and move on up a level. You only get a small amount of money to bribe the judges and have to make an in app purchase if you want to replenish funds. It's totally unnecessary to bribe but it's sorely tempting to bribe and get another go when you 've just failed your 3rd jump...

Another tactic I used is to be as quick as possible. Many times against the better personalities it's a matter of getting the word faster as there are more draws. It's a good way to win with less tiles also especially if there's an X or a Z in there as it's rare to have a long word that isn't the anagram with those letters.

Sorry to self-quote, but does anyone have any suggestions for this? It'd be really handy for me.

Er.., two people including myself answered this earlier in the thread. The answer: AppShopper app

It will alert you via a notification on your device, and via email as well.
