The update for Forever Drive has been released and it's a massive improvement. You can now flag broken tracks for deletion, edit tracks you've submitted, earn credits through play, and there's apparently an online manual and tutorial vids for new players.

Great to see a developer acting on player feedback so effectively.

re Hunters, I'd you like TBS stuff like Xcom or Ghost Recon on the 3DS then this is the best alternative on the iPhone. I'd that's your bag you'll dig it, but then I know lots of people find it dull or boring.

I might get this, then. Is it an SRPG of sorts? I'm familiar with XCom etc. but I've never actually played them.

For anyone with an Ipad one of my all time favorite Amiga games has been released for it by the original programmer...

Genesia - The Seven Gems of Neort

Its an isometric strategy game with a really superb atmosphere. You start off with literally a few people, assign them jobs and slowly build up your village. You get seriously attached to your guys and get completely sucked into looking after them, and helping them survive and prosper. I'm regretting the decision of getting a Xoom purely on this games availability. If you've got a fiver to spare, have a look and I reckon you will be pleasantly surprised :)

Oh! Edo Towns is pretty ok. It's similar in the way it plays to Pocket Academy. I would say the worst thin about it is on the small iPhone screen it's all but impossible to really take in and be proud of your city when it gets big. It's really laid back, kind of gentle and with a nice atmosphere. Nothing like as unputdownable as Game Dev Story, a different sort of vibe, I'm enjoying it in the way you enjoy watching a movie you like but know really well, comfort gaming.

Has anyone on here got Galaxy on Fire 2? I was going to get it as someone mentioned it in the space combat games thread but it's £7. That of course isn't an insurmountable about of money but it'd have to be pretty good to command that kind of price as an iOS title.

Why don't you try the lite version then and see if you like it?

It's OK - but the lite version seems to be really cut down. Certainly the controls and engine seem good. I suppose partially I want to know how much of a difference there is.

Oh also, the version of FF Tactics - what's wrong with it? The reviews on the app store site say:

This game has poor performance.

by Extremely Disappointed ! !

This is a terrible rendition of final fantasy tactics and the developer should be ashamed, especially considering how many delays this game had.

Now don't get me wrong, the original classic on the playstation 1 is an awesome game. This version however has extremely poor performance and I find that to be rather pathetic considering the game is nearly 15 years old.

Not to mention, the developer has had a LONG time to fix some of these performance issues.

Practically any move your characters perform in this game cause a FPS drop. (laggy gameplay) Even something as simple as using a "Potion" causes this lag, and it really ruined the experience for me.

Even going through the various menu options while in a battle causes some sort of random frame lag, and I find this to be completely unacceptable considering I am a software developer myself.

What makes this all even more disappointing is the fact that they are charging $16 bucks for a buggy, poorly performing product. I wish I could get my money back because this pure garbage.

If you can deal with the frame lag and overall choppy gameplay, then this game may be OK for you. But some of us have played through the original so much that this is just not acceptable to us.

Consider yourself warned.

Room for Improvement

Highly anticipated. Hugely disappointed. I have Final Fantasy Tactics on GBA/PSP/DS. All are fantastic, this however... below par. Poor performance, delayed response. Graphically demanding and this is on an iPhone 4. Please fix the issues and have Square Enix update their customers on progress. Waiting patiently for updates.

Really? We waited a year for this?

This is one of my favorite games, but the slowdown in this game is unacceptable, so far I just feel ripped off, will change review if performance is improved.

Naturally, I've no idea if the reviews on the app store are of similar nature to Amazon (i.e. mostly useless), and I do know that there were people posting comments on Kotaku and the like urging people to criticise it/not buy it because it was "expensive" () so are there genuine issues with it?

After being burnt by Secret of Mana and its controls I have been wary, very wary of these Squeenix ports. The original stuff, Chaos rings for instance, is just fine and good games worth the premium.

The ports are variable and some look like they were done in lunch hour by the work experience kid.

So I haven't forked out for FF tactics, mainly because the reviews are middling, even from the "love everything" people at slide to play, toucharcade and pocketgamer.

Main issue seems to be lazy port and framerate issues (framerate on an old PS game!)

Wow, Chaos Rings looks good. Maybe it's about time I bought a premium app - certainly the best I've played so far cost the most (Ascension).

Its a little "grindy" but then it is a JRPG (:P)

I like it , Its no FF7 but I think its a pretty decent JRPG

Edge gave it 8... and yeah I realise that is a double-edged sword :)

Some people liked it, main complaints were about controls iirc. PSP is the best platform for this, bot the iOS version won't be beaten on price I bet.
