The iOS gaming thread

Am I the only one believing that price has absolutely nothing to do with the inherent quality of a title?

Bring back Zzap 64's "Value For Money" rating say I.

Let's say 1 hour of my game time is worth 69p to me, I've had a lot more VFM out of certain iOS games (Cut The Rope, Orbital, Cover Orange, ToFu, Stick Golf, 1000 Heroez, geoDefense, Slingo) than most of the stuff I've bought on my 360. And even then I don't think I've ever played any £40 game for the 58 hours it'd require to get the same amount of "pleasure hours". I can appreciate the effort and the quality of these games but at the end of the day I'm paying to be entertained for a period of time and iOS does that equally as well for me as console games.

Nah. The reviewer can mention the value proposition in the review, if it's important or a title differs from the established norm. Other than that it makes no sense. Is a long book better value than a short book? What about a movie? The same goes for games.

No - but some people think otherwise and strictly speaking, neither of you are wrong. Now let's not have that argument again.

This is why numerical values placed on reviews are a bag of wank...

ooh this game got 9 out of 10 it must be BETTER than this other game that got 8 out of 10

But one is a racing game and the other is a 100hr JRPG dating simulator.

Irrelevant.. the 9 out of 10 one is better.

Alternatively you might say ahhhhh yes but if you compare like for like within genre then the score is relevant... and you would have a tiny tiny tiny point to make but fortunately not one relevant to iOS vs "proper gaming consoles".

I say read the review, not the score. The score is irrelevant. The reviewer wrote 100/200/300/1000 words to tell you what he thought and you focus on the number?

Remove all scores they mean nothing especially as barely any site uses the numbers below 6 unless the game is broken!!!

Does anyone play Reckless Getaway with tilt controls? I'm using it but whatever sensitivity I set it seems the same.

Good game though.

The touch controls are perfect for that game. The handling has a certain weight to it that I'd imagine makes it a bit awkward with tilt controls.

HOLY SHIT YOU GUYS. GAMELOFT ARE HAVING A SALE. THIS ONLY HAPPENS ONCE A DAY SO STOCK UP NOW ON 69P PIECES OF CRAP!

Also, in actually-relevant-to-good-games news, Hypership Out of Control is all free for today only. If you don't download this I'm going to come to your house and smash your iOS device into pieces so small you won't even be able to detect its existence any more.

I really don't like how this controls. The touch controls in the various Cave games worked really well because, unlike this, the ship movement wasn't 1:1 with your thumb/finger movement on the screen. It also had various screen size options so you could play without covering much of the screen.

In this I'm constantly lifting my thumb to reposition and losing control as a result. Disappointing, because it seems like a neat game and Cave have shown that this type of game can control even better on a touchscreen than they do with traditional controls.

Oh FUCK. It really IS the best free app day EVER! If you've been on the fence about Jetpack Joyride, you can get a free code for it here right now. May be limited, so be quick!

I didn't even know that you could complete Tiny Tower!

You can't really complete it, technically, but you can only build one of each floor so once you've got one of everything, there's nothing left to build until an update!
