I'll look into Ascension, thanks. Carcassonne is six quid which seems a bit much for an iOS game as much as I love the XBLA version.

I've definitely got more than £6 worth out of Carcassone - on reflection, I may have spent more time with it than many £40 games I've bought! It has become a morning ritual for me... checking out my games and making my moves with a cup of tea in bed :)

If you want a game of either of these feel free to invite me.....

I've gotten more playtime out of that £6 then some £40 console games.

LOL just read Bushtopher's reply :)

Gameloft has a bit of a sale on, 69p each for:

BackStab

Silent Ops

Fast Five the Movie: Official Game

N.O.V.A. 2 - Near Orbit Vanguard Alliance

Dungeon Hunter 2

NFL 2011

Splinter Cell Conviction™

Rayman 2: The Great Escape

I went for Splinter Cell because I love me some Micheal Ironside and NFL 2011.

I can fully recommend Dungeon Hunter 2 for 69p. I probably had more fun with that than Torchlight, partly due to it being 4 player co-op online that works really well, as well as playing 2 player co-op locally with 2 copies of the game and two iPhones.

It's also one of the few games with virtual sticks and buttons that works really well. Oh, and it looks gorgeous.

If anyone takes a punt and wants to do a bit of co-op questing, I'm up for some more of that, and I have a beast of an upgraded player.

Shameless self promotion but I expanded a bit on that post I made in here a while back on indie game makers on iOS if anyone cares to partake in the reading of it just here. It's semi relevant I suppose.

I saw Final Fight is up for 69p. I also saw this Capcom Arcade where Final Fight ISN'T 69p. Kind of weird, 2 different versions of the same game by the same company out on the same platform. I suppose the point of Capcom arcade is to have 1 icon there on the iPhone, it's fre and you can play pay as you go or purchase the 'arcade machine' i.e. infinite credits. Really weird that you'd have that and not tie in standalone releases like Final Fight so the price was uniform.

Anyways, I cannot believe it but I was debating with myself on whether to get it as I know I'll play it once and then never again because tapping relentlessly on the glass screen isn't quite as satisfying as banging buttons. But it's SO CHEAP what am I doing? The low price point has really warped my sense of value. You pay more than this for a pack of football stickers these days probably. Definitely a Kinder Egg costs more here. I bought this for like tens of pounds on the Gameboy Advance!

Edit: bought it now.

If anyone's on the fence about Ascension, just buy it. I say this with no reservations - it's the game that convinced me that games of the quality I'd expect on the PSP or DS can work on the iPhone.

Can you link to it please, the only "Ascension" games I can see on the store are a card game and a puzzle game.

Carcassonne is the best game on the App Store for my money. Six quid is virtually fuck all when you think about how many hours of entertainment it'll give you. It's a brilliant game, implemented beautifully.

I'm really loving Card Kombat too, it's basically Spectromancer for iOS. Much easier to learn than ascension and better for a quick go. Also works better on an iPhone in my opinion as it's less cramped.

Don't overlook it!

I downloaded that and Shadow Era, but haven't tried either yet.

How does Splinter Cell play?, I was thinking of purchasing for the iPad.

Pretty much the same as every other 3D Gameloft game.

Analogue "stick" on the left that controls Fisher, a shoot button which changes to a melee attack button if you get close enough to an enemy, an aim button which, confusingly, changes to a mark and execute button (seemingly whenever it feels like it) and a third button which slides you from cover to cover.

The controls get pretty frustrating but if you can put up with them it's fun, the graphics are decent, presentation is spot on for a Splinter Cell game and it has Micheal Ironside!!

Definitely worth 69p, but I wouldn't have payed the full 5 quid for it.

Review kind of put me off it there, especially as he seemed to be running around like a demented chicken in it. Is it more of an action title or is there some decent Splinter Cell style stealth stuff in there? (I know for 69p it's probably not even worth asking about... )

There's some sections that you can play like the console Conviction games, rolling from cover to cover, taking time to mark and executing enemies which is ace fun, but then you come to wide open areas with barely any cover so you're forced to sprint up to enemies and knock them, out or just run through to the next area.

Sneaking is fun when it works but not really a viable option because of how inconsistent the AI is, sometimes they spotted me when I was halfway across the map behind a box, another time they couldn't see me from 2 foot away just because I was in the shadows.

Again, it's worth the 69p but don't be expecting anything more than an action game with a lick of Splinter Cell paint.

Can Someone recommend me an easy rpg in the next hour. I'm not really a fan of jrpgs, more mass effect, dragon age, zelda style RPGs.

I don't mind paying. Got a long day ahead of me.

There was a really good review on Podgamer.

I'll have to dig it out of my archive of that site.
