The iOS gaming thread

It's the iAmiga emulator, which supports all iOS devices, and has iCade/iControlpad support. However, that's only in the unobtainable developer builds. Currently, the emulator is only available in one form - pre-packaged as Defender of the Crown.

Those two words there may have just sold me on getting an iCade :)

Well, I wouldn't bolt out of the stable door just yet - no version of iAmiga with it in is currently available in the App Store as of yet...

Defender of the Crown only requires the mouse to play, so that's all there is in the app. No keyboard, no joystick controls, nada. Hopefully it will be successful enough that another pre-packaged game gets released that has all these things in, and still retains the ability to hack your own game into it...

Defender of the Crown pretty much decided for me that I'd never again go back and play an Amiga game I used to love - on iOS, at least. Just wasn't really any fun at all.

I really enjoyed it! I never won on the Amiga and finally managed to do so on iOS, so at least I have a sense of closure :omg:

Rodland is coming out on iOS - I used to  this game on the Amiga!

....and now it is out! Downloading..... :)

Edit: initial impressions are good - seems to be perfectly playable with the touch controls, and still enjoy it (always a risk of rose tinted glasses with stuff like this). The biggest downside so far - sound effects don't seem to be working, and the music isn't the same as I remember it, maybe because this is a port of the arcade version rather than the Amiga version.

Still, certainly worth £1.49 (for nostalgia if nothing else)

Bought Dead Space seeing as it's currently cheap (along with a bunch of other EA titles) and it's a pretty good technical achievement huh? Hugely impressed with the visuals and audio.

If you get used to the controls (and that's a big if) it's a genuinely fun and atmospheric little shooter in its own right. My thumbs were raging at the virtual sticks and I still did two complete runs. Time has mellowed my opinion of it greatly.

That is exactly my experience with it too! Despite its faults, two runthroughs.

Aye, launching at £1.99 too.

In other news, here are some screenshots of Hypership Out of Control, which is coming in the next week or two. If you've played this on Xbox 360, you'll know how awesome it's going to be!

General premise: you're in a ship with no brakes, going faster and faster and faster. Avoid stuff until you die.

All the waves have been redesigned from the 360 version, and there's updated art, proper online leaderboards and GC achievements. Probably the ultimate version, this. It controls like the Cave shooters do, you can touch anywhere on the screen and your ship moves in relation to how you move your finger.

Now this IS exciting news. It's a game that should be much better suited to iOS than it was to XBLIG, and it was still ace there.

I don't get the appeal of the Kairos games. Tried GP Story last night and it's SO dull, same as Game Dev Story. It's like a turn-based Diner Dash.

King of Dragon Pass. Rather expensive for an iOS game at £6.99 but so far it's been so, so worth it. A deceptively deep cross between a gamebook and a fantasy strategy game. I'm a few years in and two clans already hate my guts, another is on the way after a prize bull died. A deathlord who looked like a duck just killed my best warrior and I had to send for the shamans to get rid of a ghost.

Bloody marvelous. Not universal but it works fine at 2x

Got that down to grab when it drops a bit, there's another one like that as well isn't there? Was trying to remember the name last night but couldn't for the life of me.

Loving Grand Prix Story though (though I suspect it will be like Game Dev Story, play through once and not again, but that one play through is oh so good)
