The iOS gaming thread

I can't believe there hasn't been much talk here about Groove Coaster. It is such a mesmerising experience, surpassing any other music game on the iPhone and easily one of my favourite games on any platform this year.

A well deserved Edge 9 which I think everyone on this forum should go download immediately.

Late to the party, but I've just picked up my first Iphone last week and I'm loving it. Completely blown away by the quality of some of the games available, especially considering the dirt cheap prices.

Few questions:

1 - I'm assuming I need to do some dodgy, haxoring to get a Snes Emu on my Iphone, yes?

2 - Can any of you fine chap's link me up a list of essential Iphone games I should purchase.

EDGE tweeted a review ([8]) of The Last Rocket by @shauninman for iOS today, and it was the first I'd seen of it. Adam Saltsman, creator of Canabalt, said ''It's like a Game Boy Advance gem you just discovered.''. I was sold. It's a superb puzzle-platformer in a retro style, complete with chiptune soundtrack. I've played through the first fifteen or so stages, and am really enjoying it. £1.99, and well worth it.

You can get the excellent soundtrack featuring 12 original chiptunes, for free - HERE

What's an iphone gaming thread like without any freebies so I give you THREE FREE :)

Guardian Saga - Old school RPG Action

Robot Bros - Puzzler

Fragger - Just download it - great fun

good call on Guardian Saga... nice little rpg, first impressions are that it is more "immediate" than Zenonia

Fragger.. Hmmm the control system is better than Angry Birds but it still isnt perfect

Robot Bros... didnt like the controls.. floaty and imprecise compared to the likes of Meganoid and league of evil

I quite liked Wild frontier.

I didnt like secret of mana - they fucked the controls basically

I think those are the only other two I tried.. I might give that one a go later Asura basically I am trying to finish/clear ssome games before buying more :)

I can't stand Peggle. I made myself ill on it. I'd find myself playing it all the time for no reason. I'd switch the Xbox on to play Fallout or whatever end up playing Oeggle for four hours. I'd try and do work on the PC the same thing would happen.

If I had an iOS version I'd end up in rehab.

I don't even enjoy it.

Quarrel is ace. It's RISK meets Scrabble. You get eight letters and depending on how many troops you have on your territory, that's how long a word you can make. Just make a better word than your opponent to win and take over the map in the normal way.

So yeah, it's good, but I don't think it has any kind of multiplayer unfortunately. I could be wrong, but the Lite version definitely makes it seem like the Deluxe version is a single-player affair. It's fun in single player, but I might just have to keep keeping my fingers crossed for that XBLA version to appear after all.

Thought I'd post in here to confess something.

I've been playing Let's Golf 3 since it was released and I've been really enjoying it!

I haven't spent any money as I'm totally against all that but you get 5 goes a day plus one for leveling up and one if you get an eagle I think and that's proven to just be enough to satisfy how often I fancy a go.

I'm now upto level 30 and bought one of the major upgrade outfits from just the prize money you get from playing the holes and challenges.

At some point the number of goes went up to 6 so I think at somepoint it may go upto 7 so I'd be able to do a 9hole challenge or online game. We shall see.

In terms of the game, usual golf affair although it's a bit rough around the edges, sometimes the game stutters as most titles seem to do occasionally on iOS devices which is really annoying when you're trying to time a swing but other than that I'm enjoying playing through it, on the 5th out of the 6 courses so far.

Enjoying quarrel, very polished and charming looking game.

Structually feels like a couple of flaws, going first is a huge advantage and in some games i find that the enemies (quite rightly) just go for my weakest squares and defending them is pretty tricky (not just down to my vocab, some you just cant defend with the letters), i get wiped out before it gets to my go.

Also games can go on a bit, not got thru one in less than 13mins yet.

Very nice, may work better on xbla when im bedded in for a longer play as on iphone i want something bog vist length
