Jealous! What's it like?

edit: I'll rephrase that as I essentially know it'll be like driving a train through Tokyo, is it any good? Does it run smoothly and all that?

It runs very smoothly on my iPhone 4 the graphics are pretty good if a bit samey. I found it a bit of a struggle to learn the game rules in fact I'm still not entirely sure why I'm getting some penalties. Apart from that I love it, my 1.5 hour commute this morning went by in a flash. I've never played any of the series before so I'm entirely fresh to it maybe that helps. The only downside being you never see another train.

Yeah, I've been playing this too. It's quite easy in comparison to the N64 (I think) one I've played previously. On the reverse lines now.

I have 10 hours of travelling this weekend and have been out of the iOS loop for six months due to defecting to Android. £5 worth of essentials anyone? I have Magnetic Billiards already obviously :D

That Anomaly Warzone Earth is one, Let's Golf 3 is another - anything else essential?

Defender of the Crown - can anyone explain to me how to do the jousting and sword fighting? When I played it on the Amiga 25 years ago (god I feel old) I had no problem with the sword fighting, and eventually figured out how to win at jousting, but with the old noggin not what it used to be I can't for the life of me figure it out. Bizarrely, I had no problem with the catapults - it just came right back which rows of pixels to line my boulder up with to get a hit every time!

Can anyone offer any guidance with sword fighting and jousting?

My iCade arrived today. It was really easy to construct. First impressions? It's big, solid and looks great. They joystick and buttons feel really nice and all have a meaty click to them. Instructions for pairing it to the iPad are under the lid and was done in 30 seconds. Game wise it's a mixed bag. Given how nice this is to use in practice (And how reasonable the price is for such an excellent accessory) it's utterly criminal that more games don't support it. The lineup so far is pretty pathetic.

So. What have I played? First thing I tried was the Atari pack. Some stuff is ace. Asteroids plays well. Major Havoc is good. Tempest is going to take a bit of getting used to be I think I'll be able to play that but the trackball games like Centipede feel "off" I'd hope for a digital control option but we probably won't get one sadly.

Warblade HD however (One of the games in my photos) plays like an utter joy. It's an old school style wave shooter with 16-bitish style graphics. I shall be playing that much much more. Other stuff I have is landscape which the iCade can handle. Mos Speedrun plays great. Sidways Racing looks like it's going to be good too. I wanted to try Super Mega Worm (Which I love) but openfeint is giving me problems at the moment and I can't seem to dismiss the window to play.

The only flaw is the shameful lack of developer support.

It's got the usual peripheral problem of being a subset of the marketplace so not that enticing to develop for. If it could go landscape it'd be ideal for a game I want to do.

Apparently support is trivial to add (The developer of the c64 emulator created an SDK). It's essentially just a fancy bluetooth keyboard.

There's a groove at the front for slotting it in landscape. It doesn't look as sexy but works fine. That's how I was playing Mos Speedrun.

Mame is just poor on the iPhone. I've never had a game run properly.

Meanwhile, I broke my Tiny Tower addiction with Death Smiles. And the more you play it the more stuff it gives you, like new dresses  The iPhone mode is something else...

And yeah, I know it has been mentioned several times over but if you love shooters then you need it. It's flawless.

Flick Soccer! is out. It's not the sequel to either Flick Football or Flick Kick Football, but the newest from Full Fat Games, makers of Flick Golf and the despicable Coin Drop. For my money, it's the best flick footy game on iOS, not least because there's a mode where you have to hit the crossbar, which I'm much better at than the main game. I just need them to add a mode where you repeatedly hit the post now, because I think I'd have a good shot at topping the world leaderboards on that.

The costumes in Tiny Tower are so cool. My Mapple Store is staffed by people wearing Mapple Genius uniforms

I might staff my Private Eye with people in dinosaur costumes. Incognito. Mario and Luigi are going to work in my Game Store, and I'm going to staff my Game Studio with nerds. It's fun, and it makes the bitizen-finding game easier too!

Between this and the floor-renaming, I'm loving all the customisation now. The gameplay hasn't changed but it feels more gamey. It's fun to see what friends have done with their towers. +1 to the person that called their Pub "Cheers," which was my plan too!

The new lift, also, is amazing. Fast as hell, stops instantly, snaps to floors and looks like it's come straight from Tron. Expensive, but ace.

Dunno if this works for iOS, but on the ST you could win sword fights by holding block all the time and occasionally poking the opponent.

Jousting I think you had to put your lance right in the center of the opponent's shield, and thrust as soon as you heard a ropy sample representing contact being made. I never did very well at it though.
