The iOS gaming thread

I think I remember someone in the thread recommending me Chaos Rings a while back when I was after a JPG, well, for anyone else that's interested, it's 47% off at the moment to celebrate the launch of FFT. So it's £4.99 down from £8.99.

I've downloaded it, will check it out a bit later and probably report back with some impressions.

My god I cannot get enough of Ascension. Can't think of many iOS games that have been on my mind as much when I stop playing, brilliant.

Thanks to ph0rce for lots of fun games lately

No problem, happy to get more practice against real players! :)

You absolutely battered me in that last game though, I hope it gets an update soon which logs your games / wins & preferably against each player so you can keep track of who's really winning. It would be nice if they added a feature to save a game & replay it, that would really help with analysing people's tactics.

I think I'll start a thread up for it tomorrow, see if we can't get a small league or a tournament going.

Prepare for some shameless pimping...

My first indie/post-Lionhead game has been released on the app store. :omg:

Endless Lines is a block puzzle game, the launch trailer which also serves as a bit of a how to play can explain it better than I can at this time of night:

and here's a short description of the controls from the Forum Works In Progress thread:

You touch a block and slide left/right or up/down which moves the row or column the block is in, the board is evaluated with every move so the red blocks showing the possible/current routes across the board are always accurate. It won't clear a completed path until you lift your finger ending the move so you can skip passed a path including a single block in, say, your current column to have one with three in your current column for more points.

It's quite hard to make a puzzle game look exciting in screenshots, but here's some anyway...

Everything was done by myself over a five week period, except the music which I licensed. Universal app available now for the grand price of 69p/99c

It really is superb. Despite the fact that my skills have turned to shit over the past few weeks. I will make a glorious comeback!

Does your cash earnt sync up between devices?

Edit: To answer my own question, it doesn't. This seems to be the case for the majority of Universal apps; is there a technical reason that this can't be done? Coming from a point of zero technical knowledge, I'd have thought it'd be relatively easy to shove the stats into the cloud.

Zombie Gunship is now an universal app. Cue lots of killing on the iPad.

Gah! Just as I've nearly maxed out all the weapons on the iphone version!

Edit: never mind, was being silly. It only doesn't sync between devices, not versions. Ernn!

Doesn't look massively different really, mainly sharper HUD stuff. Welcome though.

Hi

I've just joined this forum because I thought there might

be some people lurking around here that might want to try

my first game which I just released.

It's called Lumin Rescue and it's a word puzzle game.

There is a free version: http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/lettrixx-lite/id442900112?mt=8

And a full version, which you can find here http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/lumin-rescue/id441282621?mt=8

It's £1.49 but pm me, I'll give gift codes to the first 10 of you,

Cheers

PS: Sorry for the spam.

PPS: My high score is 94 so far!! : D

It's really moreish certainly. My best so far is 339 zombies which makes it staggering to me that the high score tables show people with scores of over 15,000. I mean, my games always finish because I've got a stream of zombies going into the base which I can't kill because there'll be a survivor amongst them. There's gotta be a technique I haven't learnt yet.

Yeah, I'm the same. Struggling to even break 400 at the moment. I guess the trick is to get the zombies before they get to the survivors but they seem to come in such large waves, and by the time I'm retreating back towards the base they're attacking from so many angles that sitting close by and firing off as many shots as possible into the crowd seems to be the only way.

Well, the first thing to note is that I suspect those hi-scores are by people who've hacked the game. There are Youtube clips of "no reloading" mods, and probably ones to make civilians invincible etc for all I know. I might be wrong though.

The second thing is that your scores do go up commensurate with the amount you upgrade. For example, with the radar at max you can spot the civilians coming while they are still in the dark area at the edges of the map, so you can clear whichever channel they are running towards in advance, thus mitigating the risk of them getting stuck in a melée near the bunker.

When you start the game, the natural inclination is to ditch the chaingun, but actually I would upgrade that first as it's far more useful than it first appears. If you're careful you can clear the sorts of situations you describe near the bunker with little bursts of fire, and the fully upgraded gun will kill those big bastards in one clip. That said, don't get too distracted by those big guys. It's often better to ignore them for a bit, in favour of clearing the line of zombies massing behind them. Buys you more time.

The real test for my hi-scores will be when I can't upgrade anymore. It's really nice though that there is so much strategy in what at first appears to be a simple 69p shooting game. The best thing is that I can see the developer expanding on the idea as it's been so popular. More zombie types, areas, and play modes please, just take my cash!

Cheers, Davros. I do use the chain-gun a lot (soooo satisfying to spray down a line of zombies in one burst) but regretting buying the 'widen area of spray' upgrade because it's harder to pick off zombies attacking survivors. Will try your tip about leaving the bigger monsters, I always go for them first.

So what's your best score so far?

1297! Can't get close to it again though.

The spread of the chaingun seems to increase the more you hold down the trigger, but if you just let a bullet or two go you can be a bit more accurate. I only try and save civilians when they're oriented left or right facing a zomb. Otherwise you risk the bullet taking out both of them.

Evolution Tennis has been updated to make the game's interface a little less basic (for example you can now name your player, and there's a movement trail behind the ball). It's still a totally brilliant game which anyone who likes tennis games should play.

One slightly annoying thing is that it has added a "Resign" button which appears in the bottom of the screen between games. It sits right where I usually press to dismiss the scores that pop up, and consequently when I resumed after updating I immediately accidentally quit out of a final I was leading, and lost my perfect 100% win season that I had been going for. Pah, will just have to start my run again.
