What recent-ish films will be considered classics in the future?

It will never be well-known enough to be a classic in the same way that Citizen Kane or Star Wars are, but as far as largely unknown films that are held in high regard are concerned, I would suggest Soredemo boku wa yattenai(I'm Sorry, But I Just Didn't Do It)

I caught this a few months ago on a flight, and it has remained in my mind since. It is basically a film about a young Japanese man who is accused of groping a girl on a train. He pleads innocent and much of the film covers his trial and attempts to prove his innocence against a legal system that seems to assume his guilt. Fantastically subtle acting and very dramatic courtroom scenes make this a film to watch if you get the chance.

Children of Men is basically the new blade runner in my view. Its almost as though it was built for culthood

Speed Racer? FFS its by far one of the worse films I've ever watched. I didn't even make it to the end of my disk before turning it off and throwing it on ebay the same night in disgust

Anyway recent ones for me are gonna include watchmen, dead mans shoes and pitch black.

Dunstan checks in

I don't often agree with a lot this man says but he's got you lot banged to rights here. It has a kleptomaniac monkey...in a hotel. Sure, it'll take a few more years before the general populace catches up, but this film will eventually bring warring countries together it's so good.

Oh, and it's Dunston with an 'o'. B)

I think Arlington Road has never got the respect it deserves. A brilliantly constructed film, nasty when it has to be and one of the all time great endings.

Good man. I agree - I think it's the fact that it keeps you guessing for so long. And the ending is just brutal, with a horribly ironic final twist.

The Mist? Last fifteen minutes are about as ambitious and daring as anything in bleedin' Blade Runner...

Assassination of Jesse James fits the bill. It's overlong and self-indulgent but phenomenally ambitious, never boring, and when the guns come out it's unlike anything you've ever seen. Two thumbs way up!

Tried watching Speed Racer last night and thought I was gonna catch epilepsy after ten minutes so gave up. I'll have to give it another go.

And Equilibrium? Biglime, you crazy! Isn't it just a stitched together 1984 and half-arsed Matrix rip off? Am I missing something?

Nope you aren't, Equilibrium is an awful movie. Tries so hard but fails horribly.
