Max Payne 3 - Join the crew!

I'm loving the game but I don't think it's nearly as good as Max Payne 2, which remains as the pinnacle of action games. I know that Max Payne 2 is pretty linear, but this feels even more so. And I find the constant cutscenes infuriating. Every time you open a new door, the game takes control away from you and gives you a cutscene. I just want to shoot people, damnit. Game mechanics are amazing though.

It does have some definite improvements. The way enemies react to shots, impact of shots are much better. I like the new bullet time / shoot dodge too, it gives you more time to get in some headshots. Like all Rockstar games, I find Max a bit difficult to control. It is all a bit clunky.

I enjoyed Max Payne 2 but the game play in this literally cuts it to shreds.

The gameplay is definitely improved but IMO, everything else is a misstep. I dont like the intrusive cutscenes, i dont like the weird filters they keep throwing over the game and the way random words pop up on screen. I dont like bumbling Max, who fucks up every job he gets and gets mugged on at least 3 occasions, i just dont like what theyve done with Max full stop actually. He doesnt have any real charm or likeability in this, hes just a pathetic drunk who cant do anything right. I DO like the game, the gameplay is really good fun, and ive had some great shootouts (love how locations get totally wrecked during firefights, and the bullet cams are great) but honestly the story is a completely forgettable Michael Mann rip off, and there's no memorable characters, i dont even care about the people im supposed to be protecting.

It actually really reminds me of K&L2 tbh, down to the use of odd filters, the locations (slums in shanghai, slums in brazil), the characters being self loathing screw ups is pretty much how theyve written Max etc....actually id enjoy MP3 far more if it was called K&L3, as it stands im just having a hard time with what theyve done with a character i really loved.

Fuck-up Max is entirely in keeping with MP1 and 2 - he does basically nothing well except killing people in both of those games. His character also seems a perfectly natural evolution, to me, and I do find him likeable (because he's a fucked-up drunk).

And even better he knows he is. I love that scene at the office where his standing there in his crinkled suit probably smelling like a wino.

Was just playing as

Tim Gibbs Max

on chapter VIII in score attach mode and realised if you dive down the

snowy hill

near the bottom, you keep on sliding for ages until you hit the bottom, managed 3 dual pistol kills this way and it was one hell of a FUCK YEAH moment.

What a game!

I agree with some of Brer's comments about the direction of Max, Still don't see why he had to go bald, could've just had a good shave instead. But to be fair I think they have done an admirable job with this game, It could've been much worse (look at Ubisoft's handling of Sam Fisher) and Remedy were done with the character, so it's lucky we have seen more Max at all. The fact he's attached to a fucking great shooter/best game of 2012 is a delicious icing on top. In fact the one thing I disliked about the character was

I dou.bt we will see him again after that ending

Maybe with the stellar sales they will make a Max Payne movie that doesn't totally ,completely, suck a fart.

I quite liked the Brancos. There were neither total arseholes nor innocent angels, which made them feel more real that the usual videogame ciphers.

Apart from Victor, of course.

I felt bad for Marcelo. He was obviously a knobhead, but basically harmless and just trying to help the woman he loved. Bad way to go, man.

I am now assessing, diving and killing much more efficiently now that I've gained more confidence. The game just has a way of teaching you. It's amazing how quickly I can look at a situation now and then act almost instantly.

I dunno if I agree with your assessment of Max really. Quite honestly, it's a miracle he does as much as he does throughout the game really....anyone else would have been killed about 10 seconds in! For sure, he's completely broken as a human, but he still has an idea of right and wrong, and he's under no illusion as to what he is. And despite it all, I find him a far more likeable character in this one than the others :)

I opened the door after the cutscene and

Figment of the imagination???

Here you go, clippa. PC patch incoming.

We've had a lot of positive feedback from the community on the launch of Max Payne 3 on PC and our support for a wide range of specs. That said, there are still a few commonly reported issues, and we'll be rolling out a series of patches that address these starting tonight.

Issues fixed by tonight's patch are below. Our goal is to get everyone up and running as smoothly as possible so be sure to hit http://support.rockstargames.com if you are having any specific issues.

Compatibility Issues

* Fixed reported issues with needing service packs, compatibility with incorrect OS.

Various Crashes

* Fixed a range of issues which could have led to crashes on startup and in-game.

Audio Crash

* Fixed reported issues of audio dropouts when no audio device was plugged in, or when the headphones/speakers disconnected while in game.

Mouse Sensitivity

* Fixed reported issues of mouse being sluggish, especially in prone and Shootdodge™. Increased top end range of mouse sensitivity, but kept the slider from 1-10, allowing the user more range in their sensitivity setting.

Mouse Acceleration

* Fixed reported issues of mouse acceleration affecting aiming, included commandline option to disable mouse acceleration, -nomouseaccel (In a future update, this will be added as an option in the Mouse Controls menu).

Stretched Image / Wrong Aspect Ratio

* Fixed reported issues of game locked in incorrect aspect ratio, or alt-entering and having incorrect aspect ratio. Added commandline option for locked aspect ratio as commandline option -aspectratio width:height (ie. -aspectratio 4:3 / -aspectratio 16:9) In a future update, this will be added as an option in the Graphics menu.

Video Memory Reporting as 0MB

* Fixed reported issues of the video card reporting having 0MB of video memory available. Users unable to adjust Graphics options because of this (Also helps fix stuttering on some video cards).

We are aware of a few outstanding issues including multiplayer cheaters and hackers. Rest assured this will be dealt with in a forthcoming patch.

The multiplayer really is a massive bag of shit. Rockstar should just give up, they can't do it.

The loading times, random crashes and poor controls are bad enough but there's no balancing whatsoever, the worst thing you can do in this sort of game is restrict armor to people with a higher level. It just promotes frustration and I don't have enough free time to keep up with all these hardcore nerds/dossers who play 24/7.

The menus are a horrible mess of various stat bars and tiny icons. Another total waste of resources that could've gone to adding more SP content.

There were less than 200 people playing team deathmatch earlier in free aim and only 600 in soft lock. Didn't this sell over 3 million copies? I feel bad for the suckers who bought the season pass (not really)

On the plus side, finished Old School mode earlier and it was a total blast bar a couple of absolute bastard sections (mid point chapter 11, end of chapter 12) but the skin unlock for arcade mode was well worth it! brilliant !

Just hardcore and 5 gun parts to go now !

The loading times in this are kind of mental. I realise that the next bit of the level loads in the background while you watch a cutscene, but I struggle to see how it takes so long in some cases. there’s a bit on the third level (the stadium one) where there’s a long cutscene that says “STILL LOADING” throughout. Then there’s a gunfight that lasts about thirty seconds, immediately followed by another long cutscene that you can’t skip because it’s loading the next bit.

Is it really loading all that time? It’s basically a 60 second loading break, followed by thirty seconds of gameplay, followed by another minute or so of loading. Even Soldier of Fortune on the Dreamcast wasn’t this bad. In the story mode it’s not so bad, but if you’re trying to play through the New York Minute mode, it’s proper annoying having to sit through the same lengthy cutscenes every time you die.

I'm really enjoying playing this and already thinking of replaying it on the higher difficulties, just for yucks.

Can I ask though - is there a trainer or a cheat where I can choose a different from default weapon for the singleplayer? I really want to glock 18 every sucka in the club at the beginning or a 1911 :D

also any word of a kung fu mod for this yet? :P

It's not really loading there, no. It's just preventing you from skipping the cutscenes for no real reason.
