Just noticed I had an email from Zen saying that Valkenhayn is going to be out on the 7th, and by way of apology for screwing up the Makoto codes (good one Zen) he's going to be half price for one day only. Sounds good to me!

It doesn't say what full price is. :facepalm: But I've seen that he will be available for 560 points in other territories. So I guess he'll be available for 280 points. And yes, the deal is for the 7th.

So, this Makoto DLC. Is it on the disc? We've had the LE in at work but there's no code with it.

There should be a code. At any rate the code is currently broken - it takes you to the version update rather than the character unlock. Don't use it yet!

MY COPY IS HERE and it came with a free arcade cabinet and Street Fighter Arcade - what did others get?

i got a meal in a fancy restaurant and lots of snow with mine. plus i got a download code for more snow later in the month which i hear i can use as many times as i like, which is nice.

i am shocking at fighting games this week, though. i think it's safe to say i'll have plenty of time for blazblue practice once jiroczech knocks me out of the SF4 tournament this weekend.

I am confused even more now.

I have a box that says limited edition. Inside is game, some cards and an art book. I don't remember ordering the limited edition but the despatch info on my zavvi account says it is so. However I don't see any download code in the packaging, should this be an email I received. I never got a despatch email from them?

Also back to the old school question of button setup. I am thinking of moving all my buttons one to the right as having them all so close to the stick makes my fingers hurt. Do you all stick with the default set up or swap it round? Talking about on a TE Stick here. Has anyone had this and bought a different stick - my knowledge is woeful in this area so advice appreciated. Also do you use any of the shortcut combinations?

Loving the new demo tool, some amazing combos. Tutorial is a bit painful to read. Legion mode looks interesting. Soo many options on the main menu it is difficult to know where to start. I just pressed GO and mashed buttons.

Apologies for the rambling post but exposure to Blazblue scrambles my cognitive functions.

nobody used shortcuts last time because you couldn't use them in ranked matches or most lobbies.

i have my buttons set up:

X A B C

X D X X

because i like having A, B and C all level with one another instead of A being slightly closer to my body, which would be the case if I'd left it on the left-most button.

i haven't opened blazblue yet. i'll keep you updated though dave, i know you like to know what everyone's up to. are you going with boobie lady? they're not steamed buns, you know.

I had a short play and I'm feeling quite underwhelmed. It just seems... the same. That'd be fine if they hadn't made us wait a fucking century for it. I don't know, it was only a short play - hopefully a good lobby sesh will sort me out.

It does feel similar, though both Ragna and Jin have some decent new stuff according to their challenges, and it looks like Jin's lost his fireball super unless the challenge mode simply decided to skip it.

Though yeah, I feel kind of the same from the short while I played - but I also get the feeling that there's been some decent rebalancing.

arakune seems very different :-( he even looks slightly different i think? everyone who has to fight against arakune will doubtless be pleased to hear that he can't curse you and throw bugs at you any more until he's built up a special bug meter. the tutorial seemed to say you had to use the drive move lots to build up this meter, but the drives don't seem to do much damage until you get the curse. i only played in training mode but i kind of felt like cammy spamming tk cannon strikes to build super. i guess there is some learning to be done, but i might just switch to a different character so it seems less weirdly-similar-but-not-quite-the-same. oh, and the tutorial thing seems a bit pointless, unless i've misunderstood how it works, and there are only two actually new characters on my character select screen.

right, now i've got all that out of the way: i really love blazblue. it's so pretty and flashy and there's so much stuff going on and all the characters are so weird, and i barely know any moves with the only character i know anything about which only adds to the sense of chaos. i don't really think there was any need for a new version, but nor do i really mind putting down another £20 for not much extra stuff if it means i'll play it some more over the next couple of months. it's just so exciting to watch/play/have on the tv screen while i ineffectually mash buttons which have seemingly no relevance to what's happening on screen.

Why do the bosses in arcade mode have to have some method of gaining health back!? The fuckers. I'm sure it's perfectly fine if you know how to capitalise with beefy combos, of which I keep reteaching myself after many failed attempts to commit to memory. Pah, any lost link always seems to eat a super, at least pulling them off feels rather splendid!

I'm going with Tsubaki right now. She seems relatively simple, everything cancels into everything, lots of rush down options. Hurrah for scrub logic!

Christ, story mode's insane in this. Even more so than last time - so far the entire crew's been changed into ghosts, Ragna's been called a paedophile to his face (which I found more shocking in a game than any amount of blood spatter), and judging by her first piece of artwork Noel's not wearing any underwear. Kokonoe's also told me that you don't need to see a game over screen to get 100% any more.

This is bonkers.

Game is broke man. Why can't I play ranked. I have downloaded the latest system update but it tells me I am not up to date.

Couldn't play player match either had to create my own room and some random joined.

Gone Ragna for now - combos are a bitch - I can see anyone who nails those is do well amongst us on rllmuk.

Also no code for the download - has anyone else got their code?

have you gone to the marketplace and downloaded the free 87MB update? it didn't tell me anywhere that i needed to do this but i clicked on the "marketplace" menu item to see what was there and there it was. it said it was mandatory for ranked matches and that player matches could specify which version they were running on, so probably all the player matches you tried to join had specified "latest version" or whatever, but when you created your own you were able to specify v1.00.

yes I had downloaded the latest update and could switch between version 1.00 and 'latest' but then the games said my version was not up to date. Jokers. You playing this yet? I need you and Jiro to get on board to get a few games in before we stop playing this.

i put it in for ten minutes of training mode with arakune, then glanced at the "tutorial" stuff and didn't like it, then turned it off and went and did some work instead (yes i know it was the weekend). this is shaping up to be a reasonably terrible week so i'm not sure if i'll make it online much, but now i've got over the disappointment of arakune not looking as cool (i do hope this isn't just in my head) i'm quite excited to try out some other characters. maybe one of the two new ones.

i liked arakune because he seemed to fit well with my "no blocking" approach to fighting games but now he has to build meter (and more importantly doesn't look as cool) i'm not so sure about him.
