I haven't heard of this game before today and I wasn't really much of a fighting game fan until recently, but damn this game looks like a lot of fun. BlazBlue is a 2D fighting game made by the people who made Guilty Gear (And apparently takes place in the GG universe, but years later), and, if there aren't any catches that I'm unaware of, that's about it. It has fancy 3D backgrounds, silky smooth animation, with hopefully solid controls with depth to them.

Can't wait!

Only a few posts in and I'm already critical though: is it just me or are the majority of character designs pretty much reheated Guilty Gear designs?

There are a couple similar to GG characters, I have to say I'm looking forward to finding out how a few of those play.

Gamespress today suggests it's coming to the west, but for PS3 only.

Bastards. Why not multiplatform? Everybody I know who's into fighting games is on Live, and I bought an arcade stick for the 360. No way am I going to spend that kind of money again* to be able to play this game on PS3 :(

I hope gamespress is wrong about this.

*And no, playing with a dpad is not an option for me.

It's just a sale lost for them if that's the case.

Indeed. I was more than willing to try out at full price both KoF XII and BlazBlue to expand my 2D beat 'em ups knowledge and appreciation a bit, but if it doesn't come out for the 360 I'll just stick with KoF XII. (and SF4 and HD Remix of course :( )

Hmmm, I'll keep an eye on this but whilst I played GG casually, it just had too many mechanics for me to really get into.

Blazblue should be good for you then, as the first game in the series it's meant to be relatively simple compared to the later Guilty Gear games.

Also, TRIPPLE 4 LYFE

From playing this in the arcade on tottenham court road... not really sure how to feel about it.

I'd take "relatively simple" with a huge pinch of salt, it's still very complex compared to pretty much any other beat-em-up that isn't GG. Still though, fantastic music, Daisuke Ishiwatari <33333333333333333333

Yes, in Japan. It remains to be seen if they will come out anywhere else, although it has a proper arcade release in the states, so they will see at least one version. The uk has only a handful of arcade boards, not much of a help in getting a release here

Fuck the mechanics. I love GG, but I've made no attempt to learn the ins and outs of its mechanics and I've had no need to either.

You are me aren't you? I was in there yesterday, had a few games of Blazlue solo and then went back to KOF 98 too.

There were only a couple of kids playing pool in there. Have the days of old when you could go downstairs to a wonderful selection of competition really deserted us?

If so, I am cry

Probably in the Troc playing SFIV

Yeah, you're probably right and it's not like SFIV doesn't deserve the love. I just miss being able to rock up and get a decent game of anything SNK based. The Super Turbo machine in there is nigh on impossible to see anything on too.

I hope it doesn't go under, or even worse, turn into full on fruit machines like the one on Oxford Street. Man, I used to go ape shit for Fighting Mania in there.

Isn't this game the result of the Guilty Gear IP being pinched from Arc Sys? It's understandable that they'd lift a lot of the designs if so. I remember seeing footage of this ages ago and it looked like a reskinned Guilty Gear to me back then. That's no bad thing as far as I'm concerned because I'm a big Guilty Gear fan and I was wounded when Sega retained the IP.

I was never a fan of Guilty Gear it all went a bit mental for me and I found the fighting engine too bonkers along with the god awful soundtrack.

Although this looks awesome graphically, juggling a combo with a little girl who turns into a balloon whilst firing cannon balls isn't for me.

You take that back.

Not everybody likes metal though  I've been playing a bit of GGX2:Reloaded on the PC, and tbh the music is so heavy it's almost pushing it a bit - but it works in the context of the game, and therefore I have no problems with it. I can understand why some wouldn't like it though.

My first gig was Iron Maiden when I was 13 years old.

The nonsense on that soundtrack is the equivalent of rigging tin foil up to the 3rd rail and touching your fillings with it

Give over, theres making your point and talking nonsense. That statement is the latter. I'm really not sure how Iron Maiden or your first gig are really relevant to a game soundtrack made by a man in his office.

Sense of humour failure :(
