I've thought for a while now that this guy must be the unfunniest, the most charmless goon to be placed all over the telly. Every single appearance I've accidentally witnessed has practically repulsed me into having to turn the telly off.

Now I read him and his sidekick soon have a film on general release, and that they also have a sketch show waiting to be broadcast, probably on BBC2 and BBC3 simultaneously.

All I know is that he gets under my skin. His voice, his manner, his overbearing persona. I cant go around hating some guy off the telly, it's pathetic. But hate this bastard I do, for better or for worse.

I just want one thing: To be shown evidence of this mans talent.

Is anyone up to the task?

He's a weird one, in that I found him hard to like mainly thanks to the fact that he seemed unreasonably smug about...something, dunno why. And then I watched Gavin and Stacey and thought it was really sweet and funny and he was good in it. But then I saw the Brits and disliked him again.

In conclusion: watch Gavin and Stacey and it'll either improve your opinion of him or cement your hatred for the guy.

It's really great, but like all good character-based TV shows, you really need to actually watch some full episodes. One YouTube clip out of context isn't going to convince you, and I think you know that.

So basically, you've branded this guy taletntless without seeing the actual thing that people consider him talented for? That's a bold statement.

Anyway, I like G&S, and I think he's nice and seems genuinely funny in interviews and so on.

However, my real respect for him comes from his work from before G&S. There was a period of about 5 years (probably more) where if there was a role for a fat teenage boy in a British TV show or film, James Corden was playing him. There's not many roles for fat teenage boys, but if there was one, it was him. The sheer monopoly he had was really quite impressive.

Fair enough.

I was just venting as his ubiquity just seems offensive to me.

Nice to know I'm not alone.

This got me curious... so I went and watched some of Gavin & Stacey.

Rob Brydon is Welsh, he has a Welsh accent naturally, so why on gods earth is he a Welsh man, playing a Welsh man, PUTTING ON A BLOODY WELSH ACCENT. Annoying/10.

And yeah, James Corden, alright in the show, complete bellend outside of it.

He's a guest on Jonathan Ross next Friday, which should be a fairly useful guide to how big a bellend he is. Currently I think he's a massive bellend but am happy to revise my stance after seeing his performance on this.

I was similarly enraged when Steve Coogan, an ENGLISH actor, put on a DIFFERENT ENGLISH ACCENT to the one he normally has when playing an ENGLISH MAN in 'Alan Partridge'. :(

He's putting on a Barry twang. It's pretty distinctive.

Yep, there's no such thing as a "Welsh Accent". And Brydon's natural accent is a lot more muted now than it would have been when he lived in Wales, and either way he's from Port Talbot so he would need to "put on an accent" to sound like he's from Barry.

Either way - Corden's alright, do agree that he seems to have a bit too much exposure these days, but there you go. He was good in Teachers, although I still find it odd that they couldn't find a fat actor the right age to play a 16 year old chubby geek - he was 22 FFS!

Let's face it, he still pretty much looks like a kid.

There's something about James Corden which does annoy me though, it's probably the city-boy thing.

There's a lot worse things in the world to worry about than whether or not you like James Corden... my ex-girlfriend is obsessed with him. I really enjoy his work in Gavin & Stacey, and looking forward to the sketch show. I do agree that they (him and Matt Horne) are running the risk of over-exposure, and I hope they haven't stretched too far by going for a third series of G&S...
