Look. Here's the deal. I'm out for a few weeks due to a broken thumb. Anyone wants to play me whilst I am injured, Go ahead. But let me tell you this. I may quit half way through. Not through anger. But through pain.

So catch me whilst you can as I am still in the lead....

Marseille (Yiggy) 1 - 0 Palermo (Gingerling)

Palermo (Gingerling) 0 - 5 Marseille (Yiggy)

Two very tough games on Gingerling. The traffic went my way in both of them with Marseille getting vast majority of shots. Despite that the first game could have gone either way as I simply couldnt seem to finish in front of goal. Posts. Woodworks. Hoofs etc. It was nearly a 0-0 frustration for me as Gingerling was doing some good defending but I managed to nick it at the end with a 75 minute goal.

The 2nd game was much the same as the first, the only difference being that I managed to finish well. I think all the goals came from the strikers and it was just one of those games where everything seemed to go right. Sorry to frustrate you Gingerling. You had a couple of nice chances and it could have been more except for some good defending. I was sorry to crush your survival hopes.

Good Luck for the rest of this season and next.

Dude. I have you in my last 2 games. You need to decide if you are happy to play or if you want to leave it for a bit.

Calm yourself down son!

There's nothing is the rules about 'playing sad football'

You can't expect to win every game and for it to go your way, all of us have had that 'bullshit' game where every bounce went to the opposition, you gotta live with it.

Ok, yes, you have a broken thumb, but you can't use that as an excuse for losing (which you seem to be here) if the opponent was better on the day.

(Slotter) Fenerbahce 1 - 6 Benfica (Petey)

A tight game for the first 30 minutes, a bit of lag made the game a little jumpy, but was definitely playable.

Benfica grabbed the first goal with a one-on-one. And doubled their lead just before half time.

The second half began and Benfica started how they finished the second, with a lot of pressure on the Fenerbahce goal.

3 goals in quick succession made the score 5-0, which flattered Benfica since Fenerbahce had had their fair share of possession and chances. Their pressure paid off and they got a goal back to make the score 5-1.

A final goal from a corner made the score 6-1 and sent all 3 points to Portugal.

(Petey) Benfica 1 - 1 Fenerbahce (Slotter)

Benfica stretch their unbeaten run to 7 games with a draw (just)

The first half saw end to end football, both sides creating chances and immediately being on the backfoot.

A Fenerbahce corner was cleared and Benfica were off on attack, Suazo was through and his fizzed shot smacked the bar and came out to the defense, some good play in the middle of the park opened up space for the Fenerbahce attack to break through and shoot, another corner was the outcome.

After half time Benfica looked on the backfoot as they couldn't get the ball to create an attack, everything was being swallowed up by the Fenerbahce defense and midfield.

Fenerbahce took the lead with a lovely finish, the defender was drawn out by the winger and this left a huge gap for the striker to run through un-opposed and slot (sorry for the pun ) the ball into the bottom corner.

Even going a goal down, this still didn't push Benfica into motion. They still took the onslaught from Fenerbahce.

Their goal came fortuitously after the Fenerbahce keeper threw the ball to a Benfica winger, who played the ball inside and straight to the forward, who turned a cooly placed the ball past the keeper.

This late goal (84' I believe) kept Benfica unbeaten in 7, winning 6 and drawing 1.

Well played Slotter, you were unlucky in that first, everything I hit was turning to gold.

You made up for it in the second with some lovely play, you should have taken the win though, I was fortunate to get the goal in the end.

Good luck with your remaining fixture(s)

Fry 1 - 4 Rokforce

Rokforce 1 - 0 Fry

I maintain it was closer than it looks!

I couldn't get much space anywhere on the field, such was the quality of Rokforce's play. When I did I was swiftly closed down. There were few clear chances for me in either game although in the second I did manage to strike the post with a great opportunity.

At the other end, half the time I was passing right to opposing strikers, the other half I struggled to contain runs, not willing to commit to tackles for fear of letting him through. Not that it stopped him. Still, I had an extended spell in the first half of match two where I kept the pressure on, culminating in that strike off the inside of the post. With a little more luck, I might have snatched a draw.

Results confirmed.

Fry's right they were closer than it looks. The first game was 1-0 right up until the last 10 or 15 mins. There was so little space anywhere I think we were both struggling to play with our usual rhythm. Maybe we're just both better defenders than we are attackers. The main difference was maybe that, as Fry says, some of his defender's passing went awry, as I'm sure at least 2 of my goals came from these opportunities.

Good luck in your last games.

Skajess has been docked a point for not attempting to play in the alloted fixture window. Skajess, you have 72 hours to arrange with your opponent a suitable playing time. Failure to do this will result in further penalties.

! ALERT !

Today is the start of the final week of season 17. There are only 7 days left of the season!

Any games not played by 3pm Sunday 24th May 2009 will be decided by the pools panel.

Points will be deducted as normal for teams not making the effort to play.

I'm sure everyone wants positions to be decided on the pitch rather than in the halls of the league HQ, so please do all you can to get the games played ASAP.

Good luck in your final matches!

I don't seem to be getting emails from the website any more, not sure if it's just me? Petey, I'm at your disposal tonight or pretty much any night this week if you want to get our game wrapped up.

What happens with Slotter and I? Pools panel? Share of the points?

Pete (Benfica) 2 - 3 (Stuttgart) Alshie

Alshie 2 - 5 Pete

First game was a belter, real end to end, lots of chances and either of us could have won it by the odd goal. I was delighted to come away with the win.

Second game I wasn't really at the races, at 0-0 I had a few chances and then was brutally assaulted by the Benfica keeper! Referee deemed it a yellow and the thug stayed on the park to rub salt in the wounds by saving Hitzlspergers penalty.

Before Stuttgart had a chance to complain about bent refs and conspiracy theories they were 3-0 down... I don't know if Suazo scored them all but he was the main antagonist. Stuttgart'd defence which has been shaky all season was posted missing again as Benfica took a comfortable lead.

Managed to snatch one back just before half time and was beginning to think it was recoverable when I leaked another.

4-1 at half time and Stuttgart were buried. Second half was much tighter and I got another back to give faint hope that was abruptly crushed with Suazo getting another. It just seemed that in this game all the passes and bobbles etc that had fallen my way in game on were going against me. To be perfectly honest it could have been worse as I think pete rattled the woodwork 3 times in the second half.

Thanks for the games, maybe meet you in the playoffs where I'll be deploying at least two sweepers to try and stifle Suazo!

That's my season over bar the pools panel for Me vs Slotter, cheers for the games and the chat lads!

Excellent stuff, I forgot about that Penalty in the second, was a fair pen and just got fortunate with diving the right way.

That first game, I had all the bad luck with the balls going the wrong way and the defense having a wonder.

The second, most things seemed to click up front and just getting around your defense with Suazo, he ended up scoring all 5 in that game.

At 4-2 I thought you were going to get back into it. But I stuck at it and got a fifth.

Well played gents, has been an up and down season for me, was thoroughly enjoyable, glad to get 6 wins from 8 to finish the season :hmm:

Good luck in the playoffs (those who are) and good luck next season

Anyone heard from Skajess lately? We have got games to play, and I'm not getting any response.

Skajess if you out there, let me know when you can play. It has to be before Friday as I'm off to Italy for my wedding and honeymoon for two weeks from Friday morning.

I've tried to contact him as well. Without success.

Webbinho 0 - 1 Fry

Fry 4 - 3 Webbinho

The final games of the season. Webbinho looked to have already clinched a playoff spot, sitting six points clear of 7th place, whilst I needed to grab all six points in order to cement my place at the expense of Yiggy and ASM.

The first game started off cagey, not many chances falling either way and a period of sustained pressure from Webbinho's Santander side. Gradually though the Germans of Dortmund settled and came back into the game, grabbing the goal midway through the second half when Alexander Frei got to a cross at the near post and headed home. Later on, Dortmund would hit the post but there were chances at the other end too.

Game two was another story. Santander had brought on Zigic, an imposing brute of a forward. I stared in disbelief at this mountain walking amongst us and wondered where the hell he came from. He popped up to open the scoring, but we quickly equalised and then later took the lead, both through Blaszczykowski. In the second half, again Zigic was there to equalise after a half-hearted clearance from a defender never even left the penalty box and he stroked into an empty net.

Blaszczykowsi wasn't finished. He hit the post. Then he did it again. And a third time. It didn't seem like it'd be his or Dortmund's night at all before Frei was played in to score a possible winner. No! A cross from the left, the defender looks to have it... but it's in! What a load of Tchité, for it was that man who got yet another equaliser in this topsy turvy game with 15 minutes yet to play.

More Dortmund offensives, more chances, and with five minutes to go the man of the night got his hat trick. Played in but wide, he cut back to look for the pass, didn't see it, so rifled a shot in off the underside of the bar. Time to go defensive, and watch for more dangerous play down the left wing from the Spanish. Luckily, there wasn't to be a fourth equaliser and so the playoffs were sealed.

The stats only tell some of the story of that match. Dortmund 20 shots, 13 on target, to Santander's 6-5, but despite chances galore I just couldn't extend my lead and sit a bit more comfortable. Every single one of the Racing attacks down the wings got my worried, especially after Tchité's goal, and many of my shots were chances from distance. One's got to go in some time!

I really enjoyed that last game, cheers, and best of luck in the playoffs unless Yiggy wins 15-0 on aggregate against Deco.

Good reports there Fry, I was so frustrated in that 2nd game. I kept pegging you back but then my woeful defending was exposed again, I just couldn't keep up with Frei and Blaszczykowsi. The first game I thought I was worth a point, it was a bit of a battle and chances were at a premium, but well played and good luck in the play-offs.

Also, not sure if you meant to, but thanks for not scoring when my keepers clearance was so weak it landed at your feet 18 yards out. Not sure what he was doing there. I did notice a slight chip attempt, but it went straight into his arms. I thought that was a certain goal.

Cheers
