I played a game with Benfica but didn't really gel with them. I don't like big strikers (ie Cardozo), my priority is always pace. Would have loved to have had Aimar though, and Suazo is brilliant.

I think you'll find the title will be decided in Istanbul on the last day of the season... :)

...but will it be going to the red and yellow third of the city?

Sunderland for me then!!

picked them really for cisse and jones up front, dont think they have any other good players though lol!! dont know what richardson is like on this?

still, we shall see how it goes in due time

Richardson is good as are Ferdinand and Nosworthy, Gordon pretty good also. I find my problem with Sunderland is getting from Ferdinand to Jones/Cisse, Malbranque, Taimo and Reid let them down.

Of course you are probably now going to show me exactly how it's done in the first game :)

ok guys, im your league organiser, the games begin tommorow and we are in for another cracking season of rllmuk football, before you all get going i need to remind you of the rules regarding updated teams.

As most of you are aware the unranked games with your fellow rllmuk'ers use the teams you have saved offline, this means that you need to be using the correct team when playing your matches (no borrowing ronaldo for a game or two). this also means your offline squads need to be correctly updated, you have to sign up to the adidas live season. The following guide has been created to show you what needs to be done to make sure the rules arn't broken, anyone fielding an incorrect team will be subject to a points deduction.

-------------

If you do not already use Adidas Live Season Updates then you will have to activate it for one league*. Every copy of Fifa gets a free code on the back of the manual.

1. Go to ADIDAS LIVE SEASON from the main menu.

2. Then click LEAGUE SELECTION.

3. From here pick a league you wish to enable with the ALS update*.

4. Then DOWNLOAD LATEST UPDATE and once that completes, assuming you have auto-save ON, you will have the latest squads saved for all modes. Both offline and online.

5. If you have auto-save OFF then you will now need to go to MY FIFA 09 from the main menu. Select SAVE>SQUADS and overwrite SQUADS 1 file.

*If you want ALS to be completely unintrusive select a league you do not intend to use. ie. Mexico. This is because even when you turn off ALS the current ALS stats show in MANAGE TEAMS>TEAM MANAGEMENT.

To check this has worked go to Kick Off and check the teams have the new transfers.

--------------

good luck and god speed!

So just to be clear here. I am using a French Team but I have previously used my code to activate ALS on the Premier League. Is that enough or do I have to activate it for the French League as well?

Webbinho (Racing) 4 - 1 (Fenerbahce) Slotter

Slotter (Fenerbahce) 3 - 3 (Racing) Webbinho

A goal-fest to kick off the season and for the first game particularly it seemed the Turkish-side's players were still on Marbella's golf courses. Racing opened up the scoring just before the break and Fenerbahce lashed one in not long after the restart. I didn't look like scoring, I possibly hit the post with my one chance, just thinking "not too bad, I settle for a score draw" when Webbinho put 3 past my defence in about 10 minutes

Onto the return fixture and things started off in the same fashion, with Racing opening the scoring, pretty early on though this time, and I equalised not long after. Webbhino popped two further goals in during the second half but unfortunately for him the Fenerbahce players finally turned up to produce a come back, with the equaliser in the 90th minute. Sorry.

I think that's right! We played it on Monday... :P

Chaps, having had comms issues with Webbiho the other day, I've just confirmed the fact that my mic has finally died, as I had similar problems with my UEFA cup game I had with Timmo just now. I'll sort a new one out ASAP. Any suggestions?

Buy a new mic

Very good. How much are the tickets for your Edinburgh shows? :)

Try do avoid getting one of the mics with the mute button and volume half way up the chord. I've got one and they're not so good.

Right you are. I thought there would be loads of options but the choice appears to be a bit limited.

alshie (Stuttgart) 0 - 3 paddyo (Sunderland)

paddyo (sunderland) 2-0 alshie (stuttgart)

First game saw an amazing 1st half for Kenwyne Jones as he secured a hat trick to pretty much secure me the points. 2nd half was a bit quiet after that with both teams having a few chances

Second game was very different with Alshie piling on lots of pressure, getting lots of crosses into the box and a couple of really good chances. Fortunately for me i was able to just get the bodies in there to defend the ball and nicked a couple of goals at the other end from Richardson and Jones again.

Thanks for the games mate, enjoyed em  sorry for no comms tonite but i was listening to the radio :)

BOOOOOO! Results confirmed. It's for the best that you weren't commed up. I was not happy with that!

Just could not cope with Jones/Cisse. Nosworthy and Ferdinand had the measure of my attack. Had a few one on ones and fluffed them. Bad night all round.

Well played, you thoroughly deserved the wins, I need more practice.....

Yiggy (Marseille) 4 - 0 ASM (Sampodoria)

The first game of the new season is always a toughie. And this one was particularly cruel on ASM. The first half was a very close fought affair. Lots of frantic defending on my part and even though I managed to squeeze off a few shots I still felt under the cosh. It went into the 2nd half at 0-0. However he introduction of Niang for the 2nd half was the clincher for Marseille. The pace and the turn of the talismanic forward was too much and his introduction seemed to buoy the rest of the team. He bagged 2 close range goals after 60 minutes with perfect finishes. The French were running riot and their heads were high in huge contrast to the first half when Sampo definitely had the rub of the green. Kone followed up with a 3rd allowing Marseille to ease off the gas a little. The shot count was still in ASM's favor but the heads were down and the kick in the teeth was a 4th in the 90th minute by Kone beautifully set up by Niaing. A fine start for the season for Yiggy's Garlic Crushers but the home crowd knew the score-line flattered their heroes.

ASM (Sampodoria) 0 - 2 Yiggy (Marseille)

Playing Sampordoria away was always going to be a different prospect and both teams came firing out the traps like whacked up greyhounds. After some good opening exchanges it was Marseille who silenced the home crowd when Kone slotted home but Sampo were not going to let their heads drop this time. It was all hands to the pump and shot after shot came raining into the French penalty area. It was all Marseille could do to keep the equalizer going in. Several hit the post but their strikers were not being as deadly as they needed to be to pull it back. The teams went in at half time with all to play for and ASM must have been willing his team to give it more of the same to pull it back even. Some fresh legs were bought on to shore up the midfield and there were more chances for Sampo including some one on ones. Once again a failure of the strikers to hit the target coupled with some unusually good keeping from Mandanna caused the pain to continue. And when Kone had a chance to hit the sucker punch on 60 minutes it was going to be an uphill struggle for a comeback. Used to throwing it all away the Marseille fans still weren't comfortable but as the clock ticked on they became more relaxed and when several more one on ones and another post went begging Sampo knew it wasn't going to be their night. On 90 it remained 2-0 which capped off the most successful start to a season for some time for Yiggy's Work Shy Surrender Monkeys.

Thanks for the games ASM. I really did feel your pain towards the end. Your strikers weren't firing and nothing was going your way. I was screaming at the screen for you!

I just hope I can capitalize on a great start by taking a few more wins in the coming weeks. I wouldn't be surprised if I blow it very early on!

ITS GOOD TO BE BACK IN THE LEAGUE!

Sounds like a pretty good accurate report. I was a bit disappointed to be pegged back in the 2nd game, you mention the 90th minute equaliser, but it was 3-1 until the 86th minute <_<

The home crowd were delighted with the first appearance of their new star Zigic (I think I would have given Racing up if it wasn't for his signing). The big man was at the heart of everything, 4 of the 7 goals coming from his head ;) . I'm hoping he can make the difference and help push for promotion this season.

Cheers for the games mate, shame about your mic, would have been good to have a chat.

Zigic was a constant threat and all Santanders hopes are pinned on him this season.

(Petey) Benefica 1 - 2 Galatasaray (rokforce)

Two dodgy rebounds (:)) put me 2 goals down, and without a possible comeback, cause my team weren't playing very well at all, gaps in the defense and only one man up front (it seemed)

A goal later on gave hope, but nothing really

(rokforce) Galatasaray 2 - 0 Benefica (Petey)

Same result from this game, with my team playing poorly again, unable to break through Galatasaray's defense.

My defense was poor again, leaving huge gaps for easy exploitation.

Bad start to the season, things can only get better

Cheers the games rokforce and the chat, its good to get back into the league :hmm:

Results confirmed.

Those rebound goals were the only things that won me the first game, and the second was pretty even until the last half hour when that wonder goal from Turan I think convinced us both that it wasn't your day. They were tense affairs though, and it made me chuckle how we both became progressively quieter on the mic as the games wore on and the pressure grew.

It did seem like you only had one up front, particularly in the first game. It was weird that the player up there kept changing, sometimes it was Suazo, sometimes Aimar. Bizarre.

Good luck in the rest of the season, I'm sure we'll be in close proximity by the end again.

Excellent report Yiggy, I think you have covered everything.

I was so gutted not score in either match, I had a ton of chances, but just couldn't score. I hope this isn't a indication of how this season is going to play out for me.

Thanks for the games, good luck for the rest of the season.

Marseille (Yiggy) 1 - 1 Borussia Dortmund (Fry)

Kicking off the second round match a few hours early, this was a fairly end to end affair with plenty of chances for both teams. Marseille took a lead, and midway through the second half or so Dortmund notched an equaliser. Chances kept coming and both sides could have won it, but a draw was a fair result. I'd report more, but I kinda forgot because...

Borussia Dortmund (Fry) 3 - 2 Marseille (Yiggy)

This was a belter. If the first game was an open affair, then this was a free for all. Marseille once again opened the scoring in the 12th minute when Brandão capitalised on typically terrible Dortmund defending, but two minutes later the scores were level when Frei found himself in the box and side footed home. The French response was instantaneous, Brandão yet again firing a shot at goal, this time parried by the Dortmund keeper right to the onrushing Bruno Cheyrou who couldn't miss. With defences looking shaky, Frei tried to hit another quick reply but was thwarted by the Marseille stopper. Things died out a bit, relatively speaking, with chances being created at either end but no further goals.

The second half provided more attacks, with Marseille playing plenty of through balls down the wings to be crossed towards goal, and Dortmund counter attacking appropriately. The turning point, however, came in the 77th minute when a series of passes released Frei, and just as he was to pull the trigger he was brought down by a desperate last ditch attempt to win the ball. The defender saw a deserved red card, and keeping his cool, Frei sent the penalty high and right for the equaliser.

Not content with the draw, Dortmund saw a perfect opportunity to capitalise and continued to attack with whatever pace they could find, and in the 89th minute Blaszczykowski broke through and bundled the ball home at the second attempt. It was a cruel blow for a Marseille side who threatened with every attack, but after the game the Dortmund coach was so chuffed with himself he made himself some pizza, and isn't that what football is all about?

Great games Yiggy, best of luck for the rest of the season. :)

Ai. Pretty accurate reports there. The 1st game was very even and a fair result. The 2nd was far more explosive and could have gone either way. I screamed when I gave away that penalty. It definiatly wasnt intended but with 2 defenders bearing down on him like that a trip was inevitable. Your winner in the last minute was a real sucker punch but there were plenty of opportunities for it to have gone either way. The thing is I never felt safe in either game unless I was attacking in your half. As soon as I lost the ball I would panic a little too much. I need to keep a level head.

Great games though so thanks and I think that leapfrogs you above me in the league now! Good luck for the rest of the season.

After a confident opening set of matches these 2 have bought me down to earth a little and reminded me of my defensive frailties from last season that cost me so many games. Pleased I only dropped one on the goal difference though and I hope to do a bit more defensive training in the next few weeks so fingers crossed I can pick up the campaign again. I have got to be aiming for a play off place this year!
