Rllmuk Arcade Stick Thread

Just chipping in to say the Brook UFB is also the lowest latency board on the market (or at least it was last time I looked), so if you're a future EVO champ like me that's definitely a consideration. Some boards are definitely better than others, I was using a Razer Panthera before and that actually drops inputs intermittently.

The main issue is that it's a pass-through stick which requires you to plug in a PS4 or Xbox pad to use it on their respective consoles. There are officially licensed sticks already available for less than the £300 Mad Catz are charging, and plenty of smaller, custom options too.

It supports Switch natively (after changing to that mode via a button combination) and PC.

The other criticisms were about it not being easily moddable (besides switching artwork) so changing up parts/layout might be difficult. The screwdriver isn't double-sided like the previous TE so you'll need a separate tool to easily remove the ball top.

Plus screw in buttons don’t screw very far and will likely need tightening very often.

And you can’t easily put in a Seimitsu lever due to the hole placing on the lever plate.

HORI's officially licensed Street Fighter 6 stick is available to preorder, releasing 2nd June to coincide with Street Fighter 6's launch. No Xbox version announced as far as I can tell.

It's the Fightstick alpha with SF6 art. The website will have custom art of 18 characters (presumably everyone on the launch roster?) so you can switch the art out for your main.

How are the Hori Alphas, BTW? I like the look of them but I'm always wary of flip-top sticks - the ones I've had have often felt hollow and plasticky, and creaked a lot during play, etc. Anyone give these the thumbs-up?

Other than the entire shell being plastic, I've heard good things. Easy art swap, easy parts swap, nice size and sturdy, native PS5 compatabilty too. And £100+ cheaper than the Obsidian 2 and TE3.

Just a shame the side panels don't come with an option for pink.

How easy are those vinyl wraps to apply?

Arcadeshock did brushed aluminum [sic] control panels for the original Obsidian which included pink. Might treat myself to delivery of one with an etched Dan on there for next time I visit the US.

Some new arrivals from the last week.

Really happy with the N3-SA - A budget stick with full Sanwa parts. Only two more standard RAP V variants needed now. One is pretty cheap, the other not so because it comes with the optical Hayabusa lever as stock, so is pretty sought after as that lever was never sold on its own.

Ahhh.. anyone got one of those 8BitDo Arcade sticks? AND managed to swap out the parts of Sanwa buttons? Got two of them for the RetroPie stuff and never figured out the best image/ way to convert them? any tips?

Sorry to ask but judging by this thread you geezers are guru's 👾

Have one and I’ve swapped the stick and all for the button for Sanwa without any issues. I think there’s some limits on choice of stick due to the size of the stick.

Mad Catz Ego - Anyone got any idea how to get this working on an Xbox Series S/X?

I don't want to have to shell out for another for SFVI if I can avoid it.

Do you have one already? It states compatibility with Xbox One on the website, so should just work on a Series console.

If you don't have one, you could always get a Brook fighting board and install that into an old stick you already have.

Yup, I've already got one. There's a firmware update for it so I'm going to try that. Otherwise a Brook adapter looks like the way forward. Then all I need to do is find out which one to get 😕

You'll need the XB Fighting Board.

Bought this cheapy last week and swapped out the stock lever and buttons for a JLF & OBSF-30's. It was actually a right pain to mod and I had to file down tabs in the button holes and modify the JLF gate, as well as use a super short shaft so it would fit in the case, which in turn involved cutting down the actuator. However, I quite like the short shaft and it makes an already compact stick even smaller. Also put in a Brook PS3/PS4 Fighting Board Plus. All I have to do now is wait for the JST connectors I ordered to arrive so I can utilise L3/R3 & have the turbo button to function as a touchpad.

Nice one! It's such a great feeling to spruce up a cheaper stick with some good parts. Always good to see the Egret II colours, too. I see this model on eBay all the time and I'm tempted to grab one for modding now, even though I have absolutely no need for another stick at the moment. They're oddly addictive things. :P

I have plenty of pre-RAP Hori sticks that I should probably future-proof in this way before buying anything else. The Saturn Real Arcade VF and PS2 VF4 sticks definitely deserve some attention...

Yeah. To be honest, other than grinding down the tabs on the button holes it was pretty easy to mod. You just have to get the button holes the right size. To mount the JLF, you just need to do the following steps

Remove the mounting plate

Use the screws that held the stock lever in place to mount it direnctly onto the switches

Trim down the four tabs that hold the gate on

Drill four holes into the gate

Grind down the two tabs on the rotating part of the gate

Use the shaft and hat that came with the stock lever

Trim down the actuator

Then just assemble and it should look something like this!

I also swapped out the Sanwa buttons for Hayabusa's and matching ball top. I love how it looks now but will definitely get another for the purple theme!

If you have the spare parts lying around, it's well worth trying to get one of these for around the £20 mark!

Ah, that looks superb, and thanks for the guide! Seems like a fun mod to do - I'll have to get one now. :D

It is, other than grinding out the button holes! Also I’d recommend Hayabusa or Seimitsu PS-15 buttons else you’ll need to have insulation sleeves on the spade crimps and bend the button pins so the don’t touch the metal base plate.

I need a better stick for my C64 and Amiga; what are the best options? Seen Monster Joysticks get praise but they are expensive (especially delivered to here).

How many buttons would you need? What enclosure style? Turbo functions? Type of lever would matter as well.

Where do you peops order your parts from? I’m doing a bartop emulation cabinet build that will be two player.

Ball top sticks, not too loose, and ideally quiet buttons. Recommendations for the board too would be appreciated, not fussed about super competition levels of lag, something simple to assemble and setup.

I’ve done a stick build before that I posted in here with those kits from amazon but it’s a bit loose and clicky for my tastes so I’ve learned that lesson :)

I was mainly using it for pinball so I replaced the side buttons with Sanwa OBSFS-30 Silent Snap In Arcade Buttons from Arcade World UK for about £2 each and those were much better.

Yeah, that's what I use too.
LS-40 is a great stick for shmups.
Seimitsu buttons I like best as I find sanwa too hair-trigger. I bought a second-hand stick that had some in once and resting my finger on the bomb button set it off so I ripped them out quick smart.
Brook universal fighting board has insanely low input lag.

I don't know anything about silent buttons and levers, I think I'd miss the clacking, but I know there is a "silent" version of the ls-40 - https://www.arcadeworlduk.com/products/seimitsu-lsq-40-silent-arcade-joystick.html

I mostly get my parts from AWUK or occasionally from people selling in the r/fightsticks discord channel.

@ImmaculateClump I have the optical silent Hayabusa lever and honestly, it’s my favourite out of the normal Hayabusa, silent Hayabusa, JLF, LS-32-01 & LS-40-01. In actual fact I can’t stand a stock JLF and will probably end up selling 3 out of the 5 that are coming with my cab.

Oh, that sounds decent. I'll have to try one out one day!

Good luck finding one over here. It only came in 3 specific Japan only sticks which IF you’re lucky you can get shipped here for just under £100. I paid something like £160 for mine, which is still cheap compared to eBay prices!!!
