Mines proving a little more pricey, as a guestimate all the buttons and the stick etc cost about £38 the axisdapter was £20 DS3 was from my collection but still not cheap £25 maybe, connectors, wire etc £7 although the wood was cheap/free the perspex wasn't although I have enough to make 10 sticks it probably works out at £5. That said I will have a stick that you can't buy (yet) wireless and Dualshock so I shouldn't complain. Will have an update later this week should be finnished by the weekend, although I said that last week!

True, tbh that was based on 6 buttons for 360. But factor in the wirelessness, perspex, adaptor and 3 other buttons. Also I forgot wiring costs. Not to mention if you need to buy a soldering iron, solder, any tools. But as with any completely custom home made solution is always awesome to complete and a joy to play with.

Wouldn't this get a bit hot? Its a nice idea as an all in one solution - but there would be some sweaty lap action as a result....

Depends... most of these new chipsets are designed to be implemented into netbooks so they can't run THAT hot - especially if you stick with an Atom in there - (suppose it'll be good enough for pretty much all 2D MAME stuff) - emulation on the NC10 (for example) ain't too bad and these have ~much~ better graphics chips... Sure you'd need to stick a fan through the case somewhere but it should be possible...

So is anyone here actually a fan of Seimitsu parts? I've been reading that Neogaf thread and they all seem to be obsessed with modding their sticks with those gaudy clear LED buttons and octagonal gates. I'm almost tempted to order a bunch for the sake of comparison, since they're supposed to be less sensitive than Sanwas, and I do occasionally find my little finger triggering a taunt when I want to use hard punch and little old pinky is resting on hard kick. Maan. I can see myself becoming rapidly addicted and spending a lot of money on this. :)

Right, I'm doing this. I have tomorrow off work and I'm gonna spend it doing some research, figuring out what I need to put one of these bad boys together. I reckon I'm pretty sorted for tools and soldering wizardry but I know next to nothing about decent components for arcade sticks.

I'll be back for advice soon enough.

Lets not factor in tools at all because if like me you don't have many suitable woodworking tools you will end up paying a lot of money, a decent wood plane is pretty pricey not to mention a decent work bench etc. Still they are tools and I've learnt from past mistakes and bought decent tools instead of cheap shit! Just this morning I bought a chisel and wood file to finish off the last bits!

Well finally, here is my capcom madcatz colab stick. This is being auctioned off, with all proceeds going to Shelter the charity for the homeless. This is a one off piece based on my Ryu artwork commissioned by Capcom.

details on the bidding soon. here is a little preview, better pics tomorrow.

Wow that sure is pretty. I can see that going for a LOT of money and it's going to a good cause.

Good job Dave.

True, I did buy a decent soldering iron. I just borrowed the rest from my old man and a neighbour. His garage is properly kitted out. Pillar drill, ban saw, work bench. It's all good.

Guys.

I've got some Sanwa buttons (Sanwa Pushbuttons OBSN-30) but I'm having great diffuculty finding accurate dimensions for them on the net? Does anyone know any links for schematics for them giving acurate dimensions? Stuff like thread lengths, hole diameters needed and flange measurements?

Any help much appreciated.

The Slagcoin site has layouts but I can save you the bother if you just want to know what drill bits to buy, I bought 30mm for the top hole and 38mm for the back, drill the back holes first. The depth depends on the size of your top plate, mine was 12mmm +2mm of perspex so I think I drilled down 7-8mm on the back. I got my layout from Slagcoin but be warned the buttons are too close for the button nuts! I ended up using the slagcoin layout as a guide and fudged keynote to get the dims right and printing onto borderless A4.

See my latest flickr for my progress so far and handy tips to stop you making the same mistakes as me :o

Check this bad boy out.

Its like a stealth bomber.

Some weapons grade shit going on there.

Some mad WMD sold to Sadam Hussain by Ronald Reagan in the 80's

Look like the buttons off a VSHG, looks good. I may do that to mine i think. Was thinking of doing this maybe aswell -

Amazon have 360 HRAPs for pre order, delivery in Aug 09. £140. I've put down for one in light of the issues the Madcatz sticks have thrown up.

The pcb issues were only with the fight sticks weren't they? Those problems are easily sorted out by changing the Madcatz parts from proper Seimitsu/Sanwa parts, which is a little cheaper over all. Those HRAPs are pretty lovely though. Although I saw that they removed the quick disconnects for the PS3 SFIV edition. Madness eh.

Anyway, the TE sticks proved to be just fantastic, no?

If I pre-order today, when do amazon actually take the money?

I ticked the box at the final checkout screen to delay payment til the future. Which I think means they take it upon dispatch.

As Imp said- there were only issues with the Standard Fighting Sticks. My TE has performed pretty much flawlessly for over 100 hours easy. Had one disconnect issue but I'm not sure if that was the game or the stick but otherwise perfect.

If you don't want to wait till August, they're amazing pieces of kit. Plus they already come with Sanwa buttons fitted

No love for the Astro City sticks people?

For shame!

I assure you...

I fucking LOVE them :o

I really want a HRAP....and I got a TE! :(

HRAP EX + 6 sanwa buttons would work out MORE than the TE...the HRAP comes stock with a JLF dun it? and QD's for the buttons?

The TE is very cool....but the build quality is a bit shody...they're quite a few issues with mine. I'm quite picky though.

I love them too!

I have a TE and a PS2 HRAP1 (the first batch with the shiny top) expertly modded for use on 360 by Wavey Pavey.

They are both lovely. The sticks on both are Sanwa and feel the same. The buttons on the TE are Sanwa, as opposed to Hori buttons on the HRAP. The TE buttons are lighter on the touch, which I prefer, but the Hori ones on the HRAP aren't bad at all (much better than the Hori buttons on EX2 or any of the SC4, T4 PS2 sticks).

The HRAPs are gorgeous, however not all of them are QDs im affraid.

Any of the game specific ones like the Deathsmiles on or the SF4/TEKKEN 5/Capcom Fighting Jam ones are all soldered directly to the PCB making them a bitch to mod.

Buy with caution my friend. Sell your TE at a high price and RAP yourself up good.
