Rllmuk Arcade Stick Thread

Hello,

I'm gonna be attempting a scratch built 360 arcade stick. I've got my head round most of the necessary but the wiring is confusing me a bit. I'm using a wired 360 pad (newer, with the common ground), what I need essentially is a diagram showing, in basic form and explanation, showing what to solder to where.

I've trawled through endless forums, probably missed it but if anyone can help it would be great.

Chrz

Edit: seems it's an older wired controller. This is bad, right?

I have, yeah, it's kinda what i'm learning from. Cheers.

Now, looking at this image...

Xbox360wired.jpg

...am I right in thinking I need to solder, for each button (ABXY), 2 wires that connect to the 2 terminals on the Sanwa buttons? And for the stick I will need to solder and connect the four grounds together to connect to the fifth wire(ground) on the Sanwa stick, and solder each direction to connect to the other 4 on the stick? For the LB and RB I connect again from the 2 points on the image tothe 2 connectors on the buttons, same with the guide button?

Can I remove the triggers without worrying that they'll be engaged without messing about with resistors or should I just leave them there?

Forgive my basicness but I'm no electronics expert by a long shot.

Thanks for any help you can offer.

They are just entirely normal HRAP EX and EX2's with stickers on them though so don't pay over the odds for them in comparison to the normal versions.

Good shout,

Its actually gonna be the cheapest way of getting a 360 Rap.

The RRP on them is much more reasonable than what most Ebay sellers ask for a HRAP EX with slightly lower shipping costs too.

Given the choice I would sooner have a plain black one.

I'm managed a few hours of actual build time on my arcade stick today - finally! I've cut some MDF to A4 size and drilled all the required holes. I wonder if screw backed buttons were a good idea, a lot of extra work for little gain. Anyway my test sheet now has all the buttons and the stick mounted so I can adjust the layout. Will post some work n progress pics on the other otherside of the morning!

In between lookng after the kids over the last 5 days I've managed to at least start building my stick!

Here's the story so far -

ProtoTypeZer0

I've done a little more since but not much, once the misses returns I'll get more time to run at it, hopefully have something working by the end of the week. Will post more progress soon.

Cheers

Sanwa parts finally came in! All finished and the thing works perfectly.

Apologies for the shitty phone-cam pics:

~ JLF-TP-8Y (the one without a mounting plate, grr..), with black Sanwa shaft cover

~ 6x white OBSF-30s, 2x black stock buttons (the black buttons only used for navigation purposes, they're disabled in the fight config)

~ Art printed on self-adhesive white vinyl

Sooo glad to finally have this finished.

Next project? Um.. that would probably be working on improving my 10% win ratio with Viper.. Other than that, nothing planned. I'm not really kitted out very well for proper projects - this was very much a bit of a bodge job, making the best of what I had. Turned out ok, all things considered.

And thanks!

Help me muk!

I have a regular Fightstick on the way, and I'm intending on swapping the parts out pretty much straight away.

The best setup I've ever used is the one that's on the 3rd Strike cabs in the Trocadero in London. Does anyone have any idea what stick / buttons they have on there? Hopefully someone here will just *know*.

Here's a pic of the place to jog your memory:

Here is my stick:

I got the idea of using the vinyl print off kloid, which as he says, does bring up the scraps I gave the metal board when filing it with a too coarse a metal file. Basically, it's a bit of a bodge job, but I like it all the same.

At first I didn't even plan to stick anything to it, but seeing the pictures on here made me look for a nice image that would match my green buttons and nob... :(

Tomdominer, thats awesome man, good work!

I see the nice glittery ball top, are they stock Hori buttons or have you Sanwa'd that bitch up?

Robbo, are you sure you wanna replicate the Trocs cabs, they are usually knackerd!

That's Sanwa buttons, an Octagonal gate, new ball and new stick micro switches. The gate makes such a difference to the feel of the stick and I would recommend anyone that has one to upgrade just that part alone. I can actually do a ultra facing right now!

I have just purchased a T.E. stick off another forumite as well, so I guess I've been bitten by the stick bug.

I dunno man, it's just I've sat down at them a couple of times and I never miss a move - I want to be able to do that at home too!

Haha, Tomdominer that Katamari art you chose is great. You're right too - it goes well with the buttons and stick, but also complements the grey case too in a pastelly retro sort of way. Love it.

Glad the vinyl worked out semi-ok for you. It's a shame that it's so thin, since otherwise it's a great material.

One of the Troc SFIV sticks was shit for a while cos the standard Sanwa one broke and they replaced it with something different. Don't know if that is still the case.

Either way, Casino Arcade near Goodge is better.
