New Aliens Vs Predator game!

Pretty good fun but really needed TDM instead of Free for all. Humans vs. aliens could be great. Don't care for the predators too much. Just give me Alien 2 with a few mates alongside me.

I feel a bit like this... I like Marines vs Aliens or Marines vs Predators, but...Aliens Versus Predators? Meh...

Linkster, patch in a next/previous weapon thing, cheers. :quote:

oh, and don't forget ...

Valve let us know today that Steam, its online multiplayer hub and shopfront for the PC, will be down for maintenance this Thursday, February 4.

It's scheduled to come down at 1800 PST, Valve estimating it should take around three hours to perform the necessary fixes. During that time most of the network will be inaccessible to users, so don't plan on using the Steam community, buying games, playing multiplayer titles or downloading stuff (like updates, etc).

Just had what I think was the first rage quit by a host ("Host has left the game" or something). The (360) game quit and puts me straight back to the main menu. I'd have liked to seen something better than that implemented i.e. migrating the host to another player. I was doing rather well in that game :quote:

It's amazing. Simply amazing. Everything I wanted :)

Played two games (missus wants the TV now :(), one as Marine, one as Alien. Running about as Alien was fine. Did well in relation to that. But I found the attack buttons being on the bumpers and not the triggers a bit odd: I was trying to fight a Predator who had no idea I was there, but wasn't doing anything except going in and out of focus :P

Marine is ace though. Really scary stuff. I took on 3 Aliens and a Predator in quick succession, though, thanks to the block/counter thing. Brilliant stuff. I could imagine them going WTF?!?!? Came joint 2nd in my first game thanks to that :D

The clue to what the game is about is kinda in the title. You can't exactly knock it if you'd prefer something else.

Played it. Seems that Rebellion have done a decent job with the gameplay, pity about the engine (360). Really not up to what we expect next gen games to be, some crude textures and very simple lighting.

Still plays very nicely, has used the licence very, very well; I'm sure many people (myself included) will be more interested in the single player game however. That is the base of sales, the MP is the sticky element.

Hmm - interesting...

Quit Steam - restarted and a VERY quick update was done on AvP

Started game, Quick Match and it sat on "Searching for Games" for a while.

Then I got "0 player(s) in game - Waiting for 8 more player(s)" and then "1 player(s) in game - Waiting for 7 more player(s)"

then it sat for a while before quickly spinning through

"2 player(s) in game - Waiting for 6 more player(s)" - "3 player(s) in game - Waiting for 5 more player(s)" and "4 player(s) in game - Waiting for 4 more player(s)"

and then it returned to "Searching for Games" for a while.

and then "0 player(s) in game - Waiting for 8 more player(s)" and then "1 player(s) in game - Waiting for 7 more player(s)"

and there is stayed for 10 mins

So it's more talkative but not must more actual 'game'-y.

p.s. it finally got up to "3 player(s) in game - Waiting for 5 more player(s)" - sat on that for 2-3 mins (you said a game should start with 3 but nothing doing) - and then reset to "Searching for games"

I take it either everyone has to update or it's still not entirely well - it's just more talkative about how unwell it is?

Just gave it a quick bash. Really promising, even though I had no idea what I was doing (played the Predator). You have a fair amount of options at your disposal, so I'll dive deeper into it in the weekend. But yeah, I definitely want to play more. :quote:

p.s. at this point - with the demo working better and it all being pad-centric - you might be tempted to stick to the 360 as the ideal platform and if your friends are there, that's good - but...

Mouse/Keyboard feels so, so, so much better. You need to speed-up the mouse (or ramp up your sensitivity) and remap some keys (Q is not a natural sprint key) but it's how it's supposed to play - the 360 pad feels sluggish once you've sorted the mouse/keyboard (is there a way to ramp-up turning speed etc. on the pad??)

Regarding the PC update, myself and Number 28 had a round earlier and it was very laggy which struck both of us as unusual. I'm assuming it was nothing more than a bad host connection but thought I'd mention it anyway here in case it's something the patch has accidentally introduced.

I'm still not sure about this 'focus attack' for the Alien. If I press FOCUS the screen does a similar blurry thing that happens when you sprint. If you sprint and primary-attack, is that a focus attack? It's like, one button too many with the Alien and I ignore it completely. :quote:

no, you basically need to be within range of an enemy and you can use it - say you're on a ceiling, they run below you, as they're moving you press focus and the screen blurs and they get highlighted, then you can attack them with a direct pounce

nah, don'tt think so, I played three back to back games and then quit to see if I could join another, unforutnately been creating and quitting lobbies since.

Pad sensitivity can be adjusted.

Regarding the K&M thing though, I couldn't disagree more. I found the game much more intuitive with a pad. Executing all the melee stuff with a mouse just feels weird and the pace just seems to fit better with a pad. Horses for courses really though.

There seems to be a lot of auto-aim on the pad too (not tried PC); which is not a bad thing considering the speed the buggers move.

Ah right...I remember someone saying you lock-on earlier. I've got to try that out, but opportunities are few and far between. I'm still playing with the AVP Classic 'run about as fast as you can' mentality. I usually win though. :quote:

RE: Auto-aim. Sure you didn't pick up the smart gun. :)

It's amazing the difference of opinion on this. I really liked it, a lot of other people here liked, most people on GAF hate it and a few of my mates loathed it :quote:

That to me though shows it's something pretty unique which doesn't appeal to everyone.

I'd never read GAF before. it's like the NGs of 15 years ago ...

Most of the hate I can see is rather more aimed either at the inabilty to connect (oddly enough)

Be careful who you say that to - there's a burgeoning "I'm not buying this unless it's less console-y" group starting on Steam already - FPS junkies demanding their 'dedi' and less 'console-y' and all that.

I really hope this game does well, going by the demo it deserves to. I hope that a fair few forumites buy this game (the 360 version of course!) because this has the potential to be pretty epic and I don't fancy having to play with randoms all the time (like with the horribly overlooked Bound in Blood)

how are the PC players (rjp aside) getting on?

Since Gerbik jumped to 360 I think there's only me and Number 28 (at least anyone else isn't in the RLLM Steam group!?)

I left it on the 'Searching for game' whilst I popped out - 10 mins or so - nothing doing at all tho :quote:

PC is in the DMZ - UPNP is on - nothing remotely like a game for the last 30mins+ :)

Note: If often sticks on "0 player(s) in game - 8 more player(s) required" which means something is really not terribly well somewhere - even I'm not connected to my game!!

Don't get me started on Bound In Blood, Ubisoft fucked that game over big style. Bastards. Probably the best western multiplayer game out there too and it's died a horrible death. They should fix it up, get matchmaking going and put it on XBLA as a separate component. Hell if they sorted out the problems I'd gladly pay it!

I'll be there man. It's gonna be a bug hunt B)
