Shoulder lamp should be OFF by default Linkster! :hat:

I'm managing to win with the Marine... you just have to find a decent spot where they have to cross a lot of open ground to reach you, and keep your back to the wall.

How do you run? Slowest predator ever, can't get near anyone even cloaked.

Dude...press buttons, or look at the controls in the menu?

Doh, one game and now I'm back out in matchmaking again. Why not just put me in the next match with the same people? Grrrrrrrr! I'll put the kettle on then I guess.

Seemed good, do agree it's a daft idea to be working out the controls and what have you in the middle of a deathmatch. Especially in a game with 3 different, complex and non-standard control schemes.

Fuckit, Done with the demo, can't be doing with the wait again.

I'll probably pick it up though, barring overly negative reviews (and depending on how the online functions - this is not a good advert for the multiplayer - must be frustrating for you Linkster!). Always one of my favourite multiplayer shooters so it pretty much gets a free pass from me anyway. But like I say, seemed good.

Marines are labelled as 'prey' and certainly I found the Marine hard to play as you feel vulnerable all the time - the guns aren't amazingly powerful.

This worries me a bit - I thought the balance was

Aliens - move fast and hit hard upclose but are fragile

Predator - move in stealth and hit hard from afar but fragile up-close

Marines - lethal against anything they can see/target

Loving the Predator cloaking because it's not QUITE perfect - e.g. you can see a Predator moving pretty much as you could in the films - as a Predator discovered earlier trying to sneak upto me from in-front (I waited until he was close and then let rip with the Shotgun :hat: )

it caused no end of frustration when it was utterly invisible - although it did have one absolutely beautiful side effect which is that your brain acknowledged that the grass in front of you was moving but by the time you realised it wasn't just an animation and it was heading your way, you were dead

nice compromise I think - his cloak shimmers only when he moves, otherwise he's a ghost

Dude, you shouldn't have to - this is 2010 now, user-friendliness should be a given! All that time waiting to matchmake would have been an ideal time for me to be brushing up on the controls, never mind going into option menus mid-game once I finally get in!!

to be fair the console versions do have the controls on the loading screen

Managed to do OK with the Marine but I think that was mainly due to everyone else's ineptitude  Played as the Alien and did much better, so it does seem to have some slight balance issues, maybe. I guess time will tell

One petty/minor complaint when controlling the Marine there was hardly any sense of 'being in the world', it was like I was controlling a very slow roller skate.

Dunno, just not really feeling it, I think waiting 15 minutes to join a game probably didn't help. And when me and moosegrinder tried to join a game we just got connection errors :hat:

Linkster, is defending against an Alien tail attack just a case of getting in there with a light attack before their animation ends? It's proving a tad tricky to pull off.

Also, something that doesn't come across in the tutorial video posted earlier - when blocking in order to execute a counter, do you have to activate block during the enemy's wind up or can you put your Dukes up first?

yep, light interrupts heavy (since latter is designed to break block)

the latter. it's the bounce off the block that causes the flinch and allows you to counter, not block interrupting the attack

they're where the Pred can recharge energy weapons - biting them puts them out of action for a bit

Ah cool.

Playing this MP might take a little getting used to but one thing it's doing for sure is making me look forward to the campaigns.

I just tried fruitlessly slashing at those predator generators... then I pressed E. Nice. :hat:

I've also got into the habit of taking out lights. It seemed really fiddly at first, but the trick is to use the tail. I can whizz around whacking them now. It's also fun to hit dead marines with your tail.

Poor linkster is getting a million and one questions ere.

Can you watch the ongoing Mp in a spectator mode if you are killed?

yeah, the death camera option when it#s counting you back in can cycle through a few angles and also you can manually adjust where you look (it's based on Gorman's TV monitors from the movies)

Is there no point in trying the PS3 version? Had absolutely no games after waiting 30 minutes. Tried waiting long times, re-entering the search and so forth. Probably better that it's taken down rather than left up in a broken state. It sounds like an awesome game and I'll wait for a proper chance to try it but, if I were on the fence, I doubt I'd come back.

if the only way to fix it is to take it down then that's definitely what will happen but still looking into cause

UPDATE ON PC

We think the matchmaking issue is solved on PC and it's available from Steam now. Checking what you need to do but should be sufficient to just quit the client and log back in again to get the update.

Since it's only really manifesting itself on a very large scale can only hope it's done the job.

If not let me know :quote:

Still looking into PS3

Sat on the Searching screen for about 15mins. just quit out and reloaded Steam and it's finding games (ie it finds the odd person before they drop out). It'll probably be a while before there are enough people updated to see if things are fixed.
