New Aliens Vs Predator game!

Weapons don't quite have the kick I was hoping for (apart from the flame thrower which is awesome). I haven't managed to "lock on" yet as an Alien - Do you have to be on the same surface or really close? I found that Aliens sometimes stand up to attack me and they tend to have an advantage. Predetor's mines just seem to confuse situations a bit and the instant kill animation is a bit too long. I would suggest making it a bit quicker and weakening Aliens in frontal combat but strengthening their hit from behind.

Focus attack? Left trigger to highlight prey, then attack button. can do from any surface

After winning the last 3 of 4 and coming second in the last, I'm a llittle worried about the balance myself. Not to put too fine a point on it, I'm shit.

You must be better than me! I went in as the xeno and got humped :hat:

It's all the different control styles that are stumping me. The game's got good tension though. I think I'm going to spend some time with the xeno to try and get better, but this game has set itself up for massive scrutiny in (admirably) trying to pitch all three species against each other fairly.

I'm guessing those playing the marine are playing it like mw2, or just going in all guns blazing. This is a bad idea. The xeno is probably op atm because people aren't used to fighting against a human controlled opponent with so much movement and speed. Once people get the hang of it, aliens will take real skill to play successfully I reckon, cus people will become accustomed to how to combat them.

When playing as a xenomorph, it keeps telling me to use mouse3 to transition. What the fuck is mouse3? It's not the scroll wheel, which I always thought it was, because scroll wheel does nothing. I just press space to leap from wall to wall. I dunno if I'm doing it the way I'm supposed to - it doesn't feel quite right.

Played a bit of the demo, Alien is great fun. Played a bit as the Pred too, found it difficult to get the hang of the jump feature, do you hold down the left bumper to 'aim' your jump? Still not played the marine, was having too much fun running about smashing out lights and hissing from the darkness.

TBH all the primary things are the same. Melee and blocking are essential to get down pat, sprinting is very useful and it just takes practice. I've played less with the Predator because the secondary weapons confuse the hell out of me :hat:

Man, I've spent so much time on this game today it's not even funny.

sort of, it'll highlight a red marker in 3D space to indicate a point that you can jump to, either on the same floor or up a level

On many mouses the scroll wheel clicks down because it's also a button.

I think it all lies with getting to grips with the close quarters combat from my experience. Most people don't really know what they're doing at the moment (because of the lack of instruction in the demo itself as has been discussed) and so struggle to defend themselves properly. Close combat then just descends into a fist swinging brawl where, yes, the marine will lose. I think once people get savvy with blocking and countering though, Xenos are going to be taken down a peg or two. All the species feel equally deadly to me so far.

I'm rubbish at games in general (even though I've been playing them since I was 4) but I'm flattening everything as the Xeno. Now, it's not been out a day, so it's hard to say what's going to become of it as we'll have to wait for people to learn to play, but the in the right hands, the Xeno is fucking ridiculous.

On the flip side, the guy who beat me on the last game was Marine.

I guess only time will tell, and there's only X amount of classes allowed per game. Are you tracking the stats of the demo somehow, Linkster?

yeah, and we have the ability to adjust quite a lot of it via a configuration file that resides on the respective servers

re. balance, it probably shows up most in DM. obviously the inspiration for modes like Hunt and Infestation is to have the odds overhwlemingly against the two most powerful characters. team affairs alllow again a better sense of balance and I've got to say even though the mode isn't unique Domination is an absolute fucking riot

Watching this being played streaming live while I eat my tea, and some of the comments are hilarious:

"Seems to have borrowed stuff from other multiplayer games :S".

"It looks like an old PC game".

"The motion sensor sucks in this, I prefer the one in AVP2".

:hat:

I think it looks and sounds fucking amazing. I'm actually already feeling the fear that I expect to feel when playing it - just from watching it.

Oh, and the (360) frame-rate - looks lush - well done Rebellion

Anyone else on psn having trouble finding a game?

Been trying for about 25 mins, could be my work connection but doubtful because I have no problem playing Demon's Souls online from here.

Massive crowd gathered when we booted it up but everyone long since wandered away. Never had more than just me and one more guy in a lobby. Been in and out about 5 times, takes ages to find a game then I'm the only one in the lobby (huh?!)

Something's clearly fucked with this. :hat:

I think I know less about what I'm doing than everyone else tho!

I probaby panic a bit and spaz out at close quarters. It's hard to know what you're doing wrong in the frenzy.

I'm going to stick with it, but man does it confuse.

I'd have preferred a single player element in the demo, just to relax a bit and look around, get a feel for the play. I suppose that wouldn't have been do-able though, as the demo would have needed three sections of campaign...

Ahahahaha, I just tried playing Predator. I have absolutely no idea what the hell I'm doing. Lasers, thermal visors, invisibility? Seems to expect you to know what a predator even is from the get go. Demo ain't noob friendly! And I'm most definitely a noob. :hat:

360 certainly seems to have the least number of connection issues

update is basically hope to have PC fixed and on Steam later, from that can probably ascertain what's causing a similar (but far less frequent) problem on PS3

another late one methinks

People used to call the alien overpowered in the first two games, also. Even more so in AvP2 where the alien leap could kill a marine in a single hit, or failing that had a stun effect that effectively meant you were dead anyway. I remember one of my friends repeatedly destroying me as an alien no matter what I did to get at him - and I was pretty good as an alien, it has to be said - he was just amazing at reading the motion tracker.

Was pretty frustrating, actually. :hat:

Marines are labelled as 'prey' and certainly I found the Marine hard to play as you feel vulnerable all the time - the guns aren't amazingly powerful.

This worries me a bit - I thought the balance was

Aliens - move fast and hit hard upclose but are fragile and easily killed at range.

Predator - move in stealth and hit hard from afar - can melee but are basically fragile if caught unawares

Marines - lethal against anything they can see/target - squishy otherwise

Loving the Predator cloaking because it's not QUITE perfect - e.g. you can see a Predator moving pretty much as you could in the films - as a Predator discovered earlier trying to sneak upto me from in-front (I waited until he was close and then let rip with the Shotgun :hat: )
