New Aliens Vs Predator game!

I'm afraid you're right, although I certainly would like to do some more online sessions sometime soon.

I am convinced that there's a killer-app in the form of a matchmaking service for games which is platform/distribution agnostic - a "World Wide Web Guild" a "Facebook for gamers", it's just no-one has made it yet...

Any news when this patch is coming out? Im playing this on a daily basis but the ranked matchmaking system is fucked, it shouldnt take 5 minutes to find a multiplayer game with 4 people. Ive started playing species team deathmatch as when i was playing mixed everyone was choosing the predator and it was getting pretty boring with people just throwing disks at each other.

When theres a big group of people it works fantastic but most of the time it struggles to find any more than 4 people and i think the damage has already been done. Last night I was in a lobby with 5 people and it was waiting to find 3 others before starting, after more than 3 minutes of waiting one of the guys with a headset said that he had enough of waiting and asked everyone else if they wanted to play MW2 instead with him and most of the people quit. Heck its easier for me to find ranked matches in Resistance 2 than it is for this and my only fear is that when Sega/Rebellion finally do sort out the issue that most gamers will have moved on and not bother playing AVP.

I say that once the patch is out we should get everybody from the rllmukAvP list together again because when it did work well in the past it was really great fun! ;)

Part of the problem is of course that there are an unprecedented shitload of great/interesting/must-have games coming out at the moment and it's very hard to keep up. That also makes it very easy to get distracted (never mind nigh on impossible to give each game the time it deserves)

No kidding, FFXIII is out here tomorrow and then a little game called God of War 3 is out next week, plus Yakuza 3 and resi 5 gold edition ;) Still I will be up for some AvP matches once the matchmaking gets sorted out for ranked matches. Anyone else playing this on the PS3?

In my case it's Just Cause 2, Metro 2033, Yakuza 3, GoW 3, BlazBlue, and Way of the Samurai 3 this month... assuming Just Cause 2 is out this month, haven't checked. And I obviously also assume that I'm the only fucker on here who's actually interested in the 360 PAL release of Way of the Samurai 3  Probably forgot a few games there too, and of course there's always next month with Super SF IV and Splinter Cell Conviction as definitive must-buys and god knows what else  Red Dead Redemption, Mafia 2, and the Halo Reach beta are also looking very good and I have high hopes for Alpha Protocol. The new Prince of Persia game is also starting to look good (i.e. like Sands of Time) the more we see of it, so fucking hell what if that one also turns out to be a must-buy? :P Inbetween we'll get DLC for Dragon Age and maybe further DLC for Borderlands. Crackdown 2 is heavily rumoured for a June release date - and this is only for the first half of 2010 :P So yeah, better hurry up with that patch 'cause we have precious little gaming time now! :P

I've put it to one side for the moment because trying to get a game is taking just too long, plus a lot of matches quit before it's finished makes the waiting even more painful. I'll definitely be back on once the expected patch sorts out former issue, it's a great multiplayer alternative to the usual shooting-from-a-distance.

And having some new maps released this month (hopefully at the same time as the patch) will undoubtedly lure some people back, probably more if these maps were offered as free DLC.

I found the marine campaign really rather entertaining on hard, but short. Was good fun though, and single player survivor is fun for a bit, if a little soulless (needs more Resi Mercenaries influence imo). The other two species campaigns didn't gel with me at all with their focus on bizarrely regimented melee attacks and canned killing animations. So yeah, if you like your AvP goodness, then you'll have fun for a day or two - but it is definitely flawed.

What's the single player like for those of us in rural parts of the country where the sprawl of the internet fails to reach?

Three single player campaigns - one for each species - each giving you a different experience. Playing as a marine is tense & scary - be it crossing a bridge and seeing 7 tough to kill aliens running towards you, or inching down dark corridors with just a flashlight and a pistol. Playing as an Alien is about being stealthy and launching fast lethal attacks from up on ceilings and walls. Playing as a Predator makes you feel powerful because of all your gadgets, speed, and strength. I enjoyed all three, myself.

It's not a deep, story heavy single player experience though, it's more about getting across areas without dying but making sure everything else does. There are several difficulty levels for you to choose from so if you really want a challenge (and best experience, imo) you can ramp it up. Also all the missions within each campaign give you scores on how well you did covering a selection of stats so I've found quite a bit of replayabillity going back to beat them.

The 'stars' of the game for me are the aliens themselves - the animations are excellent - and the audio which really enhances the atmosphere.

My first AvP and one I'll be keeping.

Yep, same story with me, I'm waiting for the patch and the new maps - at the moment Battlefield is occupying more than enough time!

Don't bother. The marine campaign is the only decent one, but about 2 hours long. The Alien campaign is shit but thankfully short and the predator campaign is plain old boring.

Finally, the new survivor maps are released next week

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/aliens-v...r-dlc-next-week

SEGA's first lump of downloadable Aliens vs. Predator content will be released on 18th March.

This Swarm Map Pack will cost 540 Microsoft Points (£4.60/€6.30) on Xbox 360 or £4.79/€5.99 on PS3. The PC price is unclear.

Inside are the four maps offered for free to Special Edition AVP buyers. Two of the maps - Docks, Machine - work across all six competitive multiplayer modes. The remaining two - Outpost, Hive - are maps for the wave-based co-op mode Survivor.

The marine campaign was considerably longer than that for me. Maybe I'm shit or maybe I was playing on a harder difficulty but I find it tough.

Has there been any word of hacks for the MP game? I've just been in a game where abuse was being hurled about... a predator player seemed to be moving very suspiciously - leaping back and forth surprisingly fast. Every confrontation with him ended up with him leaping towards me from a great distance and slicing my face off. Then again, at this time of day everyone does seem to be ridiculously good...unemployed/students. :)

The MP is just going bonkers for me. You specify a game type, which you get in, but then everybody leaves, then you're taken to a game type you didn't specify...i'm going around in circles. :omg:

Why would a predator player's score jump up one after the match has finished? Actually as i'm watching the scoreboard, it jumped from 15 to 16. They also had *zero* XP points, despite winning the game?
