Red Dead Redemption - Never coming to PC

Quick question: How long is the single player part of Undead Nightmare compared to the normal Red Dead story? Am I right in guessing about 1/4 or 1/3 of the size?

I got about 7 hours out of it but there's a lot I didn't do.

My sister bought this for the PS3 for my brother-in-law's Xmas present but she didn't buy him the main game. I reprimanded her and she's got him the full game too now and I forced her to buy him Just Cause 2. Lucky bastard's in for a joyous time over Xmas.

600 points is solid value for this. It's worth 1200.

I just finished the main game last night, so apologies for covering old ground. The whole rockstar sand box thing is really showing its age in terms of the actual game bits, but they're streets ahead on characters and storytelling. They do lay it on a bit thick, but there's subtleties galore as well.

like just after Bonnie meets your wife, and she sort of lingers, looking at you and the wife ride away and looks all blue. It's a little ham fisted, but it gets the point across without any words.

End game bits:

I definitely think they made the right choice by killing off John and having Jack take over to mop up all the side quest stuff, and then having the wife die a few years later. The wife dying was a poignant touch of realism - life expectancy was apparently short in the brutal west.

A couple of things didn't really sit right for me though - who was Uncle? Why was John so mean to him all the time? As for the final mission, it wasn't explained at all why the feds and the army came after John, seemingly only a short time after letting him go back to the family. Also, I completely fucked up my deadeye thing when he comes out of the barn surrounded and only got one shot off before I got blasted to kingdom come

In comparison to GTA, it's certainly more beautiful, but driving from A to B in GTA is fun in itself, the horse riding in this wears off fast enough, especially with the constant jabbing of A to keep up your speed. I'm definitely going to miss whistling up some transport in the next GTA though...

That bit was fantastic, the way she kicks the dust before heading back indoors says a thousand words

Yeah, and in one way that mission is all that's wrong with it too - one really long, dull ride there and back to deliver some corn, all for a conversation on the way and a bit of interaction with Bonnie. I think it was worth the journey, but I could see it boring the shit out of some people, especially after spending the first 90% of the game shooting dudes up. I applaud Rockstar's not taking the easy option there.

Uncle is an old retired criminal John knew from his gang days. Petty theft n' shit rather than any badassery I think.

The feds roll in to clear up as John is still considered part of dutches gang, for the sake of convenience. Then they get extra credit for getting a clean sweep, and don't have to mention the fact that he did all the fucking work for them.

Oh man, this has to be the longest play through of a game ever for me. Started at launch back in May and still plodding my way through it. Avoiding all the challenges/sidemissions/hunting/collecting etc as well! Just had encounter with

Dutch, who took woman hostage, shot her and ran

am I anywhere near the end?

I just wish Rockstar would Half their games and make the missions double exciting/better.

To be fair, if it took you so long to reach Dutch, it's your own fault, not Rockstar's.

I hope they make their games even longer in the future.

"No one deserves to have their blood drunk"

I really liked Red Dead Redemption and have just bought the Undead Nightmare disc on the PS3 (bit overpriced, but hey). This has to be the best DLC or add on ever, it feels pretty much like a different game! I waited all this time because I'd passed on my RDR disc to someone else and didn't want to take the plunge on the disc based dear version, when it seemed to be the same thing but with zombies. However, a lot of wee touches like the limiting of ammo really make a huge difference to how it plays. Really excellent work, especially if you get it cheap on an online sale (I didn't, but it would surely double the pleasure). It's also a lot funnier than I remember the original game being!

Nearing the end...think I've found a game crashing bug as I can't seem to progress?

So I met up with wife, son and old guy. I did all the son and wife missions before calling it a night and saving it. This morning I got on and the 'U' that represents the old guy has vanished, there are no main missions anywhere on the map. Have I broken it?

Aye that happened to me. Just sleep once or twice in your house nearby and then try going there - it'll work then. :)

Finished!!!! :D I looked at my stats and found that I did it in just under 20 hours. How is that considering I hardly did any extra stuff? Can't believe I started it in May!

It IS finished isn't it? not 100% sure. Marsten dies and you take over his son...no more missions right?

Not quite, sir. There's one more thing left to do. I'm sure you'll have a fair idea what it is.
