God almighty! What a waste of time last night's session was. Tried to do a few missions, one was with Landon Ricketts and involved doing nothing at all, then I went to help some nuns and the game kept crashing. So off I went to try to find Death again. For two hours, no sign of it.

I went to bed.

I've finally started playing RDR (not Undead) again! I killed Dutch and did some missions on my farm, then I spent ages hunting beaver and bears in Tall Trees. This was probably the most absorbing thing in the whole game for me!

Then I went down to Mexico and killed a fucking TON of nuns.

EDIT: capitalised Tall Trees as post was a bit odd otherwise.

About Death...

You don't find Death, it is your reward for finishing the story missions, which is a bit cheap as there's no inclination that it's not findable in the wilds.

I think some people have been able to get it early with a glitch, but it's far easier just to go through the missions.

Likewise, the 5th legendary horse...

The Unicorn will not turn up until you've done all the challenges (Including obtaining Death). I spent ages trying to find it before then only to run around for hours with not even a peep. Once I finished the game though, it would turn up on a regular basis every time I was in the right area.

Bizarrely, I did find Death... typically when I wasn't even trying. Thankfully got the deeds to it and the other horses now so won't ever have to bother with one of those miserable zombie nags again.

I only just downloaded the Undead Nightmare DLC

Poor Bigfoot on;y eats berries and mushrooms :( and I'd just slain his family. I felt so bad, I had to finish him off and blow his Yeti brains all over a tree.

I'm watching The Walking Dead on FX too so I'm very much back into zombies. The dialogue and cut-scenes are superb but it feels weird not being able to hunt as you have to conserve your ammo. I'm not gung ho but will you ever run out of ammo?

You might struggle a bit at first but it soon becomes plentiful enough. You can pick it up off any zombies you kill that look like gunslingers/have ammo belts, and once you start clearing the villages you'll find supply crates signposted around the place.

Thanks. I've spent far too long getting one of the undead to follow me and lassoing them.

One thing I've noticed with the DLC compared to the main game is that there's a fair amount of pop up in comparison. Not sure if it's glitchy or just my 360 being old and spazzy.

I have another question - is it worth picking up animal parts/herbs as there aren't any traders - can you take these into the main game and sell them there? I've got a ton of side quests etc. to do so I'll probably go back tot he main game once I've done Undead Nightmare.

I'm really hoping Rockstar don't make a 3rd Red Dead title given what happened with Crackdown 2. I'm hoping Rockstar make something similar to Red Dead but make a game where the protagonist is an Empire era British fellow who travels to Africa to colonise the continent. Hunting lions and elephants and hyenas would be awesome :)

Yeah, that's a real ratings winner. Edge 8.

Ive still not finished undead nightmare

I thought it got a bit too repetitive to be honest, it was great tho, i mean i havent seen much SP DLC that puts in so much effort possibly ever. The cut scenes were fantastic and you can tell alot of love went into it. Just a shame you really just do the same thing over and over. Ill finish it eventually, mind.

I think, in defence of Undead Nightmare, that's what all video games are - Pacman and Tetris are possibly the most repetitive games ever made but they're quite popular and fairly good.

My idea about the Africa setting would be something Rockstar would do... I'm off to Ladbrokes :hat:

If not Africa, I'd like to see them do a South America setting with Aztecs - a game version of Apocalypto.

Picked this up yesterday and have found the opening few hours quite enjoyable. One issue: is there a way that I can maintain my speed without having to hold A when I draw my gun on horseback? At the moment I'm finding that my horse travels a few steps before slowing down to a trot which, when you're trying to keep up with animals/other people, is a massive pain in the arse. I know you can hold A to keep up with your companions but having to hold A while you use the triggers and sticks to aim and shoot is a bit of a job.

I got this when it first came out, played it a bit and it didn't really bite so it went on the back burner. With the cold weather over the last couple of days, I fancied something sunny, so stuck this on and this time I'm quite enjoying it. I've just done the mission where you play the shill to the medicine man at that farm - which made me laugh as only moments before everyone at that farm had been killed and raped by no-good'uns! But this time they didn't seem to have a problem with me. It has a similar problem as GTA in that missions seem to take an age to get to and although the jibber-jabber on the way is pleasant enough, I can't help but feel that the map is a little too big to start with.

But I digress. On the whole, it's pretty good. And so atmospheric to look at. There was a moment as I was entering Armadillo and the sun was rising that I just had to stop and take it all in. The ambient light and hazy morning just seemed so real. Amazing stuff.

I've finished Undead Nightmare now and the end

made me  with Seth stealing the mask and John coming back from the dead.

The missions were OK but very much in the vein that others have said here; clear the zombies, take some ammo and move on. The fact you can't get shot by zombies detracts a little from the combat but it was still well worth 800 points. I got a few achievements along the way from the main game and thoroughly enjoyed the six or seven hours I put in. The music is amazing, meeting the old characters in this bizarre new situation was almost nostalgic and it was good they chose to have John as the protagonist as I really dislike his son as a character.

I didn't quite understand the plot though

you're character dies in the main game at the (near) end. You then play Undead Nightmare as John and then, at the end, you die again and come back as a zombie. I just don't understand the timeline.

I didn't bother with any of the horses other than the horse that's constantly on fire and I don't think I'll go back to the game just to catch a unicorn.

The sasquatch part made me :( and I felt like a complete bastard after that mission.

It's great DLC though and I'd like to see some further DLC like this - I think they could easily give this game a host of other scenarios given the history of the US Wild West as 1861-1865 was the US Civil War. John goes off to war would be awesome.

Undead Nightmare:-

Anyone tell me any good places on the map to find Undead Cougers/ Mountain Lions?

Pretty please?

Red Dead Wiki?

This is an invaluable site.

I'm anticipating some more DLC in the new year for Red Dead. If they treat the game with the gravitas of GTAIV, they could expand the game without a real need for a proper sequel. I watched the film The Wild Bunch again recently and Rockstar stole everything from it. :)

In the Wild Bunch the movie opens with a group of aging outlaw's final score, a bank robbery. The event concludes with a violent and overtly bloody shootout that would generally mark the finale of a movie. This is correct in that it marks the finale of an era, for the characters and the world they live in. They simply can no longer keep up, the times are changing, technology advancing, and they're style of life is getting left behind in the dust that they spent so long galloping through. They abandon their careers for the simpler life of retirement. They enjoy this time, they live their fantasies. During this time the law is always on their tracks, bounty hunters. The further into their fantasy they get, the closer their demise seems to get. When one of their own is captured they are faced with the choice of escape or what is certainly a suicide mission to attempt and free their fallen behind comrade. For them it is not a choice. They all die in what can only be described as a nauseatingly gore filled bloodbath of a battle. They might have succeeded in removing themselves from the wild west however they could not be separated what is inherently their nature. The west was only wild because the wild bunch were present, they influenced their surroundings, not the other way around. It is only after the final shoot out that the bounty hunters catch up with them, now only bullet riddled corpses. They never got caught, they could never get caught because they were already trapped in their own personalities.

It would be fairly difficult for Rockstar to add much more than they did into the game (other than Zombies).

Is my Undead horse supposed to just randomly pull tot he left and right? it's fucking annoying.

Edit: http://reddead.wikia.com/wiki/Undead_Horse yes it is. What a shit idea.

The rest of this DLC has been lovely but i HATE this idea. Time to find another horse.

They missed a trick by not letting you upgrade undead horse control with a carrot-and-stick method.

Except with a brain instead of a carrot.
