Red Dead Redemption - Never coming to PC

Brilliant. Couldn't give a shit about the mp stuff, but I'm having that. :)

Interesting to see the inclusion of supporting characters and what looks like new cutscenes; I thought it'd be one of those really narrative-light dlc's.

I do wonder how (endgame spoiler)

it'll fit into the overall timeline. I figure it either takes place at some point before he gets all shot up, is entirely standalone, or most interestingly, I'd hoped they might have some ambiguous dialogue that could be interpreted as having this take place after he dies, in some sort of cowboy purgatory. With zombie grizzly bears.

I quite like the idea of John himself (MASSIVE END GAME SPOILER)

rising from the grave to fight the undead horde. But mostly because I was more cut up about his death than a videogame has any right to make me feel. I'll just be glad to have him back in the saddle.

A free outfit pack will be available from Oct 12th.

The pack features two previously unreleased outfits along two challenges – The Savvy Merchant and The Expert Hunter – both of which were candidates for the GameStop pre-order fan vote.

In addition to being new duds, the outfits will apply certain gameplay benefits. The Savvy Merchant outfit allows players to purchase guns and ammunition from any gunsmith for half the cost, while The Expert Hunter threads double the amount of skins and hides players can collect.

And here are some new screens from Undead Nightmare...:omg:

I think we can expect a Halloween release. :)

Haha, fuck what I said earlier about this being a bad idea and selling the game.

After watching those screens and the trailer, I can't wait! Looks fucking awesome.

Same here. After thinking "What the fuck - ?", this could actually work, in a weird, eerie, High Plains Drifter sort of a way. But with zombies.

I've only just picked this up and I've put in 13 hours and I am loving it. This has probably been said before but the atmosphere is amazing and the game World is epic. I've never really clicked with a GTA game since Rockstar ditched the top down perspective but the fact I can travel from point A to B cross country and skin some critters on the way has me hooked. I always felt completely restricted in GTA games by traffic and buildings but this has taken the frustration out.

I'm a little stuck with the yellow X markers though. I'm travelling between Thieves Landing and Armadillo by stagecoach and once I'm in the coach and on my way, a yellow X appears. When I go back, it's gone. My last yellow X marker was Pike's Basin and Eli mentions some travelling snake oil salesman. Where do I go next?

I'm loving the side missions though and totally addicted to hunting.

The zombies DLC is on my radar - it looks brilliant.

I've just realised that the giant letters on the mini-map on the hud actually point you to the main story missions  sometimes, I'm utterly retarded.

Is anyone actually bothering with the multiplayer on this? There's very little talk of it in this thread, and I can't see a dedicated one in the Online forum.

I had such high expectations for it before the game arrived, sauntering through the plains with your posse, completing co-op missions etc., but after playing it for a couple of hours last night it just seems so... clunky, and the menus are ridiculously unintuitive.

In the Free Roam the fact that you start off with such shit weapons and a

lame mule (which is hilarious the first time you see it, but gets pretty tedious after that, although to be fair you do get a *slightly* less, and only slightly less, fetid steed after 1 level-up)

means that for someone like myself who has very little gaming time, and just wanted to dip in every now and again, it's a total chore. Just had a quick check, there's 50 ranks to get through, I levelled-up once in 2 hours' playing time last night!

The fact that there's no lasso ( ) means it's nigh-on impossible to nab any NPC's better horse too, who you may have accidentally just shot as he rode innocently by. *cough*

There also doesn't appear to be any way to cycle through the different dedicated co-op missions either, apart from choosing to "skip" whichever one you've started on, where it then has to load up the next one, whatever that might be, and then skip that one too if you don't fancy it. Repeat ad nauseum. (Please, please correct me if I'm wrong on that)

Feels like a bit of a let-down really, given how awesome the main game is.

I play this now and again when I feel the need to harass townsfolk. I do believe my favourite thing to do in the game is to push people from the second floor of the saloon in Armadillo. Or holing myself up in Blackwater with a full stock of Dynamite, Molotovs and shotgun ammo.

Undead Nightmare Preview

The upcoming Undead Nightmare expansion for Red Dead Redemption is both a rather difficult and easy concept to grasp. On the one hand, it's hard to understand how or why this zombie plague is striking the American Wild West. (Rockstar still wouldn't talk about story details.) On the other hand, it's an easy excuse to introduce new enemy types into Rockstar's open world. Undead Nightmare adds a lot of things to shoot at, and looks to be a meaty extension of the game's single-player experience for a rather reasonable $10 price.

Perhaps as an admission of its incompatibility with the canon of the world, Undead Nightmare is a standalone experience that takes place between the end of Marston's quest to find his family, and the game's final battle. Nothing is carried over from the main game, with the exception of any new weapons unlocked by the game's other DLC. The goal of this quest is to rid the country of a zombie infestation, a journey that will take a player anywhere from 5-12 hours, depending on their skill and propensity to complete side quests. Rockstar wouldn't reveal exactly how much of the map would be infected, but they did tease that a new area would be added to the world via this expansion.

The cure to the undead plague appears to be rather simple. At cemeteries, there will be a collection of coffins you'll have to burn. Of course, this is easier said than done. Burning one coffin will trigger a massive influx of enemies, as they rise from the ground. As you burn the coffins and fight the swarm, you'll eventually encounter a boss zombie. Take him down, and you'll rid the area of the zombie menace, clearing the skies in the immediate vicinity whilst lowering the frequency of random "ambient" zombie attacks.

Zombies will take a considerable amount of damage, but a clean shot to the head will take them down. Precise targeting is definitely a must for this mode, and frequent use of the Dead Eye is necessary to survive the horde. Because the undead don't (usually) carry around guns, ammo becomes a greater concern in the DLC, as you'll find yourself switching between weapons, desperately trying to find a weapon that can fight the zombies off.

For some, the experience will be thrilling. It's not often Marston has to take on so many enemies at once; however, others will find the (understandably) stupid AI of the zombies to make for less-than-inspired fights. There are a variety of zombies -- some will charge at you quickly, while others will shoot projectile vomit -- but for the most part, circle strafing and running away seem to be effective strategies. These battles go on for quite a long time, and the lack of checkpoints mid-battle can make the experience repetitive and tiring.

But in typical Rockstar fashion, these enemy encounters are but a small part of a much greater experience. While fighting undead humans can get tiring, when was the last time you got to fight a zombie bear? Have you ever ridden a zombie horse? In Undead Nightmare, you can, and the brain-eating variety controls a bit differently than the hay-eating kind. Finally, there will be some kind of multiplayer component to the DLC, although Rockstar was quiet on what that would entail.

Even after playing Undead Nightmare, the entire concept comes off as a big gimmick. But, at least it's shaping up to be a gimmick packed with a lot of value. Red Dead Redemption fans can look forward to it "very soon."

Shit, just traded it the other week and then the zombies DLC announcement rolls along.

Although it doesn't fit much with the tone of the original game, I'd have bought it to get some extra playtime out of it.

Same, I couldn't give a toss about multiplayer DLC but that looks brilliant. Long since traded in though.

I'm going to purchase the DLC but I don't want to finish the game too quickly before it's out. I'm in Mexico and I've done two missions:

The first with the old gunslinger where you get Deadeye level 3 and the second where I stopped a train.

How long have I got left? It's taken me 22 hours to get here as I'm doing a lot of side missions and hunting.

Maybe halfway, probably more like 1/3 done. There's still a lot of game left. :)
