Broken Sword coming to DS&Wii

I bet the Wii version will involve a lot of keyturning and leverpulling with a similar ineptitude as Zack & Wiki.

I must admit - I have my concerns.

I hate waggle for waggle sake. Waggle works in Wii Music and Wii Sports and Boom Blox etc... but don't try and shoe-horn it into Broken Sword.

First video of the wii version in action. I quite like the little cutouts they've added and it seems like they have genuinely made an effort to update it. I'm not keen on the music, it doesn't sound very reminiscent of the original to me; IIRC the original's music was more along the lines of short cues or setting the scene rather than continuous loops under the action. I hope they've kept the original soundtrack intact for the old scenes.

Looks like its been totally redrawn. Glad they have the same voice for Nico.

Also, yeah I don't remember this scene at all from Broken Sword 1 or 2 (only played BS1 on GBA). Looks like something totally knew, although I am under the understanding this new game has extra scenes.

Wait, is this a remake of the first game or the second (or both)? I don't recognise that scene.

Has it been completely redrawn or is it the same high-res art from the PC version? It looks considerably nicer than I remember. The cut-outs are quite detailed, for incidental stuff.

It's a remake of the first one, with extended dialogue and extra scenes (I think the extended dialogue were stuff that link to the now extra scenes, scenes that were planned from the beginning, but cut due to deadline issues, among other things).

thats pretty cool, if they were meant to be in the original version. I dont think i even finished the GBA one, and it was back in 2002 when i last played it (i think).

The GBA version seemed to sell for good money on ebay till the DS one was announced.. mind, i doubt everyone knows its coming.

That looks really good, glad they bothered putting some effort in, really pays off, I've finished the first two a few times but I'll definitely be getting this version too methinks.

I still find Nico's accent quite comedy,[alan hansen] it's all oo'er the place [/alan hansen]

IGN UK: Finally, now that Revolution has re-teamed with Dave Gibbons, how about that Beneath a Steel Sky sequel? Isn't it about time?

Charles Cecil: It is time - and lots of people ask the same question. A few years ago we released the original for free to be played using the Scumm VM emulator. Our thinking behind this was that no one could play the game without Scumm VM - and Scumm VM was free, so it only seemed fair to give it away. This was, in hindsight, a brilliant marketing initiative (I wish I could claim that we were strategic enough to have seen this at the time) because literally millions of people have played it in the past couple of years. And many of them have joined the clamour for a sequel. This Broken Sword Director's Cut will go a long way to proving the potential market for this type of adventure - if it is successful then we will certainly explore opportunities for a BASS sequel.

DS review from official nintendo rag:

Broken Sword DX: 86%

+ Superb hand drawn graphics

+ Great voice acting

+ Hint mode is a nice touch

+ New scenes and puzzles

- Video scenes are quite fuzzy

Not sure if thats the DS or wii one? Im guessing ds as 'Video scenes are quite fuzzy' - the wii can playback videos correctly right? right?

Actually I was wondering if Broken Sword is playable on SCUMM or not.... do they have to be LucasArts games?

Works perfectly. They even have the video and audio files for it on the scumm website as they won't work off the disk.

So I own all the BS and lucasarts point and clicks but they don't work on mt eeepc through wine. Not for any techy reason other than it can't see any of my drives. Its driving me fucking nuts I tell thee.

Anyone got any tips?
