Outrun Online Arcade

I can't see the video

I was only procuring the soundtrack for 2 today, and then I read this. Man, it's one of the few games I love to go back to just for the sheer thrill of it. So what's the craic here, then? Of the 15 courses mentioned, how many are from 2 or SP?

Oh wow. Maybe people will actually play this one. I never saw more than 2 games running on Xbox C2C, and nothing past the first week unless I'd arranged it.

Can't say I'm happy that Sumo are doing it given the problems with the last two games, and C2C specifically. The fact that it's also XBLA makes me doubly concerned about whether it will all work. But it's awesome news anyway you look at it. Hopefully this is just a port of SP and ignores all the extra cars and crap that was added to C2C.

The video just showed SP courses. I suspect it's just them. Remember that C2C sold poorly and never even got a proper release in the US, with lots of retailers not stocking it, so SP will be all new to a lot of people.

Genuine question:What problems, and how do they relate to who developed it?

Good point.

I'm not sure about this. I'd be glad to be rid of all the peripheral nonsense from C2C, but the prospect of a much larger multiplayer base doesn't particularly appeal, if only because I've never really thought of it as a competitive game. No leaderboards, too? What the hell is that all about?

On the one hand, it would be convenient to have a version of Outrun that loads from the HDD, but on the other, do I really want to pay out for the same game twice? Assuming I do, they'd better fix Milky Way online for this version.

C2C is one of the buggiest games I've played (apart from things you expect to be buggy like Oblivion et al). Crashes, timer resets, background animation freezing etc. It also caused a lot of people a huge amount of grief online, with all sorts of connection problems. I love OutRun and played a lot despite the bugs, and I would do so again, but I'd like an OutRun that just works properly. I don't care for the tacked on cars (that were too fast for the game) and that guff either.

Fair enough.

Can't say I noticed much as the core racing is sublime and I (mostly) played the pc release offline.

They have the main driving mechanics down to a tee.

Thankfully this time we aren't at the mercy of everyones Xbox DVD drives being of mixed speeds and manufacture. So yes you should see less glitches, animation weirdness and crashes. Including Milky Way.

Ah yeah, most of the problems seemed to relate to online.
