I am also confused by this to be honest, always been told that the spec you are in for the raid is your spec you can roll on for that raid.

In other words if I am on the pally and need to DPS I only roll on DPS gear even though my main spec is tanking.

Also seems a bit unfair on people like Choc who needs to jump between healing and tanking due to the needs of the guild. If he can't roll on Tree gear when we need him to heal only tanking gear won't he be a bit screwed on gearing up? The same goes for Jeraka.

Thanks for the clarity though, does not matter to me as Sood only has one spec just worried for our friendly hybrid classes.

Well the rules have to be flexible really, and ICC it is extremely important especially as out guild make up

We only need two healers for the first 4 bosses, after that we need 3... So saying the 3rd healer is me, saying I cant roll on healing gear for the first 4 boss fights means I wont gear up my main spec which is unfair, may as well just go to a raid on my own to get gear that way as the guild certainly aint helping me in anyway.... extreme maybe but the point is we have to be able to roll on our main spec if thats what we are or were drafted for

Jera was a tank Thursday and Sunday, he has better dps than mumps or choc so made sense to make him go dps.. alternatively mumps could have dps'd, or I could have and choc heal... It could have gone any way and it happened to go this way, saying he cant roll on main spec gear because he happens to bring better dps is a tad harsh

Maybe ask before you roll and discuss which would be better upgrade and such like Sukki did other night when he was dps and a healing mace dropped...

I think the Muk golden rule should trump all others: "Don't be a cunt".

Can I suggest that if you're needing on gear that is not for the role you're filling in the current raid then you ask first?

I'm a little surprised at all the "Its well harsh if someone comes in their off spec and can't roll on main spec gear" comments. They're not getting nothing, they're getting the chance at off spec gear.

I think the phrases used were "a tad" and "a bit", but if you want to be a cunt about it feel free to stick whatever phrase you want in mine and Chaun's mouths.

But thats not fair or true

If im owl I wont roll on dps gear as thats taking off spec gear over a main spec. So in theory helping the guild and filling in a off spec is actually meaning you cant roll ;) thats why we say roll on your main spec still!

Wow, what boring fucking loot drama is this? ;)

Not really "fucking loot drama" is it? Just confusion about who's rolling on what and getting which upgrades. I (and some others it seems) thought that we did it one way while others thought we did it another way. Making it clear just means people know what they can and cant roll on, that's all.

Edit: if Im coming accross as a cunt then so be it. I'm not trying to attack anyone here, just surprised to find out that the loot rules as Ive understood them since we started raiding kara are actually something else completely.

To expand and clarify a bit then, history lesson time! :omg:

To anyone who has been in raids regularly since dual spec first began it should be clear what route we've evolved into here, non? It was a mild clusterfuck at the start with us trying to find our way to the best and fairest loot rules. At that time (a very long time ago) one the the things tried briefly was roll for the spec you are in. Was rubbishd, for the clear reasons stated by me, Alask and Chaun above. We moved through naming what spec you would be need rolling for at the start of the run for a short while too but this was just repetition; it was known within a couple of weeks who wanted what gear primarily (ie what they defined as their "main" spec). It's made sense ever since really, I think.

There's some room for sensible personalisation/adaptation/flexibilty for the best there too I think, as for example I'm sure if Choc came to heal Chaun would not even roll against him for feral loot. If any other plate wearer came along I'd not need roll against them for DPS gear even if I were dps cos I hate the Ret spec ;) As for Jera specifically, he's probably the only tank with a dps offspec who doesnt go moaning when asked to dps (me included!) even though tanking is his much preferred role so we should probably be thankful for that. :omg:
