Penned by Del Toro and someone called Gris Grimley who did a version of the book in 2002. I don't know him, but maybe some of you do. Oh, and one word which seems to stand out there is necrophilia... The cat has enough projects on the go to last him until 2017 - and that's just at today's standing! But goodness, if you want to see anyone's handling of this kind of project, it'd be Del Toro's. lordcookie Posted November 16, 2008 Share Posted November 16, 2008 Well we won't be seeing this for a good 3-4 years at the earliest and del Toro is taking a producer role rather than being that hands-on (minus his involvement with the script). It does sound like material ideally suited to him though and Henson are amazing. I'd still prefer to see a staight adaptation of the story though. One thing I will say though is that this could still go the same way his stop motion adaptation of The Witches went and never see the light of day (and that project had Cuaron as a producer too). Del Toro will be co-directing with Mark Gustafson (Fantastic Mr. Fox). And it's a musical, set in 1930s Italy. In our story, Pinocchio is an innocent soul with an uncaring father who gets lost in a world he cannot comprehend. JohnC Posted June 17, 2020 Author Share Posted June 17, 2020 David Bradley as Geppetto, Ron Perlman as Mangiafuoco, Ewan McGregor as Jiminy Cricket, Tilda Swinton as Fairy with Turquoise Hair (aka The Blue Fairy in Disney version). Also Christoph Waltz, but I'm not sure about his character. He had been credited as The Talking Cricket, but that's what Disney renamed Jiminy Cricket, who McGregor is definitely playing. Unless they're having both as apparently their characters are different enough. McGregor revealed he recorded his role before lockdown, but may need to do a bit more. yakumo Posted December 10, 2022 Share Posted December 10, 2022 It’s wonderful. Like the best of Del Toro’s work it feels both timeless and timely. The magic is so wonderfulfully strange in that way he does well, the spirits had such mythic design, reminiscent of sphinxes and the more esoteric sort of angel. I wasn’t expecting Candlewick to be such a good character, I assumed he would just be a bully. Ewan Macgregor needs to be allowed to sing more. There are some really dark and bizarre moments but I don't really know what to make of it overall. You just don't get this kinda thing anymore, not a fan of Tim Burtons stop motion and as for Aardman (gromit, shaun the sheep etc) it's not as rough and dirty as Pinocchio.
